I've had this extra copy of Torchlight in my inventory for AAAAAAAAGES. Everyone that bought a copy of Torchlight II through a pre-order bonus also received a copy of Torchlight. My wife referred me to the site, and I figured this would be a good way to finally be able to gift it to someone. It is a really good game, though it's been around for a long time, and it used to be very popular, so most people I know have it.

Torchlight is an Action RPG by Runic Games. It was designed by a veteran team composed of the designers and leads of projects like Diablo, Diablo II, Mythos, and Fate. It takes place in a mining town that has uncovered monsters in a mine under the corruptive influence of a material called "Ember" that imparts the gift of magic to those that wield it.

Many have called this game a Diablo II clone, and rightfully so I suppose. It does a good number of the things that Diablo II did right. The gameplay is pretty similar at times. It combines the decent storyline and skill tree ARPG gameplay attributes of Diablo II with the town questing system from Fate. If you've played Fate, it's also taking very heavy influence from that game. Where fate had a basically random storyline, this game has a pretty good storyline. Among the neat features are that you get a pet (dog/cat that can later be turned into something else either temporarily or permanently) who fights for you and who you can send back to town to sell goods for you. Also, there's basically an endless side dungeon you can do. All in all this is a rather engrossing and deep game that is also a lot of fun.
