Description

Man why'd you guys have to set a precedent of giving away things on your birthday. I'm supposed to get things on mine! Whatever, have a game, jerks :(

Actually I'm pumped to give away one of my favorite underrated games of ever! Prince of Persia 2008! (Come on Ubi, give us a sequel!) This gorgeous adventure was kind of controversial because of the perceived lack of death and difficulty. Miss a jump? Elika saves you and puts you back on the last flat ground you were standing on! Die in combat? She revives you and you start combat over. Are you gearing up to whine about casuals after reading that? Don't! It really just makes the quicksave->quickload process faster. You'd do the same thing yourself anyway. With this knowledge in hand, you're now free to enjoy a bunch of running and jumping and sword...ing and Nolan North wisecracks!

Also instead of thanks, feel free to tell me your favorite casually hardcore games. I mean not that this is hardcore at all, I'd say that's more something like peggle, but you get what I mean. I hope.

First thank you! :)

I actually had to look this one up! That doesn't happen often. I really like the art, I'll have to check it out.

Casually hardcore? I have no idea what that means. I've been using similar phrasing to describe modern shooters of late--e.g., CoD is one of the most casual shooters (say, 9.5 on the casual-hardcore scale), whereas BF3 is a bit less casual and just slightly more hardcore (perhaps a 6.0), with ArmA II being amongst the most hardcore and definitely not casual (a theoretical 2.0)--but that doesn't seem to be what you're talking about.

You seem to be referring to hardcore casual games--i.e., casual games that are hardercore than the usual fare? I don't really play any casual games--at least, I don't think I do--so I can't really comment. FTL, maybe? Is that casual? I wouldn't really think so. Defender's Quest? Not really casual and certainly not what I'd call hardcore.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe clarify?

Thanks for sharing, at any rate. :)

I like being difficult! Whenever hardcore/casual arguments come up, I describe myself as casually hardcore. It guess it means both that I'm really casual about hardcore games (I collect pets in WoW), and that I'm really hardcore about casual games (harvest moon is my BITCH)

I'll give one that is also from Ubisoft: Rayman Origins. You can play it casually with your kids/little brothers or sisters if you're only looking to finish the stages without the collectibles, but getting the all the treasure chests and cages is a pain if you're not playing it in alone.

I was really tempted to give that one away instead, but I've already given that one! Gotta give new things! One of the best platformers ever.

Hmm, I guess the GTA series could qualify, with its "casual" reviving in hospitals etc. Also, thanks a lot!

And about the question... probably within the "casually hardcore games" type, could be the Fable saga. I have seen that you have the first in the library, you should try it.

Big fan of the series, played 'em all on the xbox. No idea why I have the first one on the PC! Not sure how that happened at all. They are really relaxing though, aren't they?
