There's one thing with cults. They need to be scary. You always see them in shady villages in norh of England or USA . I'm not sure if it's the case for every country, but in France, our most secluded regions usually get a VERY distinct accent (usuallty fun/not understandable) . So the whole secluded cult with a funny accent thing is complicated. But I'm pretty sure there was something made by the monty python about that.

Currently playing a game where the character one plays most of the time is a cultist, and while the cult has some VERY weird practices that rub against cosmic horror the whole vibe is just cozy and introspective. So they're not always scary, if I learned anything from reading SCP articles is that fictional cults are mainly meant to be weird above everything else, even when in a horror setting.
