Civilization V because it's one of the only turn-based strategy games I've played and it's the one that first comes to mind.

Heroes Of Might & Magic II, III, IV, V, VI.

I really enjoy Napoleon: Total War and Empire: Total War.

And obviously, Heroes of Might & Magic 3 is the best turn-based strategy game of all time ;-)

I have never played Civ before, though (entering here to hopefully change that), so I'm open to having my mind changed.

My favorite is Civ IV (never played civ III), with Heroes of Might and Magic III coming a close second

Civilization IV. But the older h/c gamer dudes say III is best, so thanks for the chance! :) (And based on the logic IV > V, this should ROCK.)
