Back to the Train Thing

Found this in an old Groupees bundle, hope the key still works...

Well, it was either this or 5 copies of Bad Rats. 1 CV * 5 = 5 CV, right? :)

I got out of the Groupees habit right when they were doing coins all the time. Then when I started paying attention again, I was seeing that everyone's coins had grown to crazy values. And I didn't have any. :(

Hmm... Checking Groupees, it says "Spent Coins ( $64.74 )", which was mostly $1 coins, and four that ended up being worth $10 somehow... I suppose people who bought multiple copies of the right bundles, and knew to save the coins, would have received a lot of free stuff from Groupees...

Seems they eventually decided giving away free stuff wasn't a good business model... Oh well, fun while it lasted... :)

There was one coin that got up to like $17 or something.

It's mostly just FOMO or whatever that's called after the fact.
I'm just bugged cause I bought the original Be Mine, so I feel hipster about Groupees; but then I missed out on free bundles. :P

I feel so bad for the people at bundle places like Groupees or Lazy Guys, the market completely changed... :(

It seems like nobody's still buying bundles to find indie gems at a nice discount, now everyone wants the cheapest +1 and trading cards, and the games themselves are completely irrelevant... :(

I assume dailyindiegame's transformation was their only way to survive - now it's a bulk seller of cheap garbage, a dodgy third party marketplace, and (apparently) reselling games from other bundles. And we all thought our jobs sucked...

I kind of do too for Groupees. They were just some cool indie hipsters doing their thing. A lot of which didn't even involve games very much. Then they kind of got sucked into the bundlesphere, and now everyone shits on them constantly.

There was that whole article thing about how Humble created then killed the bundle market. It's kind of true. We went from one bundle every few months to a new one almost every single day.

At this point, I don't buy Steam games at launch. I know they'll be bundled soon enough.
Or I can just play some other bundled game that's 95% as good and only cost 35¢.

You know, I always forget that about Groupees, it wasn't simply a games thing... There's still a lot of music (most of which I never remember to listen to, sadly) but the games bundle side really seems impossible to sustain now. As long as people don't care what the games are, they will never be able to compete on price with the cheap Russian +1 sellers...

Oho, that's a very good plan! :) I've been trying not to buy all the cheap garbage on Steam, but somehow every Summer / Winter sale I cave and load up my cart with mountains of the cheapest and garbageyest... :(

I will probably suck at it, since apparently there's no RPG-style leveling up? You just have to stop sucking quite as much? Not sure I can do that... :(

If I can be a "git gud at rolling around like a chicken-wuss", Souls-like (ugh... I hate using that tag, but I feel it is necessary for now) games that have that "cheat feature" make me happy, as that nullifies any difficulty, for the most part. Sorta like a time-out to refresh. It's a wonderous thing. That's what most git gud philosophy is about... gitting gud at one thing, and doing that one thing over and over!

Didn't check it out much yet, but I wonder if you must block and parry shit all day long - or if they have the cheap-ass roll tactic which I so love - and nearly all others that supposedly "git gud"(?) players love - to abuse until the cows come home, and the fat lady sings, and so forth. People love this git gud stuff. On my negative review of Furi, people said that was why I created my negative, though I finished the game in two different ways. Trolls, just like me! My sarcasm oozes troll. It's fun I guess. Sad to hear no RPGitGud available...

If I can evade it without damage - or wuss away to patch up my wounds, I can live through it all. What doesn't touch you makes you stronger, as Diedrich Notzsche once quoted.

It's funny, I don't think iframes are mentioned anywhere in any of the souls games, not even in Dark Souls 2 with that stupid Adaptability stat... It's just something you're supposed to know about...

And if you try to explain iframes from rolling to someone who hasn't heard of it, it sounds ridiculous... Ok, you're having trouble with this enemy. Well, instead of blocking with your shield, did you try rolling toward the enemy, right into their attack, when they attack you? Oh, you didn't? Well, try that.

As for this game, I don't know the details, but apparently there's something you can do when you're attacked, that umm, if you time it right, something? It sure sounds like a parry. :)

Ahh, like if you play a "SL1" Dark Souls challenge, i.e. you never level up, it sounds like hard mode unless you know that starting at Level 1 = pyromancer = you can just nuke everything. :)

Hmm, looks like I got Furi somewhere, but never tried it... :(

Good luck! :)

I guess it's much more fun, yet not everyone can afford that, while anyone can donate their bundle leftovers or sth small bought with cards money ^^ I don't mind at all tbh - it's a community event, something one would think would get swarmed with leeches - the fact that we got over 400 unique contibutors in a public forum event is quite amazing, even if they donated just a single bundle game ;p

But I can't buy on sale for later, and I can't gift most stuff into EU.
It's irritating.

You can send wallet-money gifts nowadays, so if winner is from region you cannot gift to, send him wallet money according to his regional price, he then buys game himself and voila :) only problem is when game is not purchasable at all in winner's region.

I can't use card profits to pay for that though. :(

you can - card profit goes to steam Wallet and nowadays you don't need to buy steam wallet card in some store - you can buy Steam wallet Gift in Steam store using your wallet money (aka profit from cardz) and send it to someone else :)

That just reminded me that i need to finish DarkSoul3 . was at the end of a Darksouls marathon and already beat 1 and 2, but then i stopped at the twin princes .

doing those 2 with a slow ass 2 hander was a nightmare.

I liked DS3... but it wasn't very challenging overall compared to what I thought it would be, compared to what I heard from others. I think almost every boss (besides about three nasty ones) took two tries. Some I figured out as I watched and rolled a bit... or they killed me in a second form when I was clueless and took a beating from my original "recon" work.... That's why it sometimes took a second go. For me, I think it's more about observation than anything else, from what I gathered. Learn patterns, chicken-wuss-git-gud-roll my way out, drink pots as needed... repeat.

I also played strictly solo, which might have made it harder or easier? I dunno... seemed like any other fairly difficult game I play. Strange how they have such a rep though.

Then again, even with three (sometimes 4 - 5 depending on how I feel) meds that slow my coordination + reaction times, and having lyme, which has made all that deteriorate from what I used to be, this genre is not (generally at least) as hard for me as say... straight FPS/multiplayer, or most straight strategy games (yowzers)!

Some "worse-than-souls-like" style games are ridiculous to me, like Haydee. Holy shit that game is hard! Nightmare! I haven't gotten back after "finishing" the first zone. Super limited saves, and long treks if you die, as a result - making it a million times more frustrating for me.

Comment has been collapsed.

it wasnt that hard , i agree.

it was just The Twins , Sister Friede , and Slave Knight Gael. everything else isn't that much of a challenge.

my main problem was the lack of hit chances and how hard it was to take them against The Twins , specially since they keep teleporting faster than i can swing my GreatSword. (Gatz from Berserker cosplay , cause why play Fashion Souls if you wont fashion all the way)

also , that game is on sale. might buy it before it ends since its a 80% one.

I was all out chicken.... hardly any weight and lots of rolling! Yeah, I cannot imagine trying to find holes in some of the faster/trickier ones to pick spots with. I had a little 1-hander with bleed damage for most of the game, and a shield that I rarely used. Liked Pharis' hat and bow a lot when I got 'em eventually... for hit and run activities with some of the funny AI... Forgot the sword, but the one human-like dude near the main shrine spot.. guarding that door... got him to fall of the edge and claimed that one I believe for most of the game.

Interesting, I don't remember enough of either 2 or 3 to say what weapons I tried in them... :(

But definitely, there are some fights in the games where a fast weapon is better, no matter how much more damage a slower weapon might do in theory...

Although, I remember having a lot of fun with various slow weapons in Dark Souls 1, assuming enough poise to complete a swing of course. :) I made a puzzle using the Demon's Great Hammer which turned out to be fun, more or less. :) And a lucky drop of the BKH can be easy mode, if you haven't tried that before.

Good luck! :)

Well, they have a demo that people explored, so you can see more of the mechanics and such. The "die twice" thing might need some rebalancing, but otherwise the combat looks much better than ds1-3. Sure, right now it may still look pretty easy, but I can't imagine the demo being anything other than the "tutorial", more or less.

There's also a second trailer, not sure if you've seen that one or not.

Thank you, looks interesting... :) I'm sure it's going to be less difficult with practice, but I've always sucked at action games... I can't even play Batman properly... :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, for me it's the opposite - I hope it's more difficult than DS3/Nioh :p

That's probably gonna be the case, though - in dark souls parrying and such was mostly optional, in Sekiro it looks like you might have quite some problems if you don't learn to time those parries.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, it does look like gitting gud will be a requirement, don't see a lot of room for block... Chug! Chug!! Screw it, run away!!! :) Although that grappling hook does have a lot of interesting possibilities, guess we'll see how it all works in practice...

I wonder if there's going to be any equivalent to cheesing things with a ranged attack. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There might be some prosthetic that lets you deal damage from ranged later in the game but the charges seem to be very limited, so while you could cheese weaker enemies, you likely won't have the resources for the bigger ones (seeing as prosthetic skills get recharged from stuff dropped by killed enemies). So far the only ranged one we know about is a shuriken, which has a slight stun/stagger, so nowhere near the cheese you can pull off with bows in DS :p

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I guess they want to avoid people just sniping enemies in perfect safety... Not sure if it's just in the boss fights, but it seems like you'll need to keep up the pressure on enemies, parrying or whatever it's called, to break their guard/poise/blabla... Looked like if you back off to heal, their blabla would recover too... Oh well. :)

I suppose on everyone's list of things to try in Dark Souls NG+ is "take a greatbow to Anor Londo." :) It may not be a good strategy, but it's definitely fun to pay those archers back... :)
