Traded bought it with stolen CC, most likely.

If you use steam trade, you got inventory trade logs. Just write ticket to steam support about it.

So there are some answers:

  1. The guy declined his payment so your game disappeared.

  2. The copy was stolen (stolen card, exploited store, stolen account etc.).

  3. And the last and most common - support moderator was drunk and removed your copy by mistake (kidding of course :3)

Yet again. Never trade on steam stuff that isn't in the little steam trade window. Otherwise, it's your own fault and you're SOL.

While nobody deserves to be scammed, you can take precautions against it.

You don't mention checking their Steamtrades or Steamrep profiles. Did you do this?

Just to clarify, checking their Steam profile isn't the same as checking them out on Steamtrades or Steamrep.

Apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know.

Checking for VAC bans and time on Steam may be slightly useful, but won't tell you whether or not they're a serial scammer.

Bummer. I assume this is +rep on Steamtrades, and not just people writing "+rep" on their Steam profile? Sometimes these things happen, unfortunately, but it sounds as though you did check stuff out :(

Again, was it a giftable copy of Rust you traded for, or a key?

As long as it was a gift then you can get the trade reversed and get your keys back. It will take a while for Steam Support to get around to it, but they will if you ask them. Just submit a fraud ticket if you haven't already.

That's good. If it was a tradable gift, you should be fine :)

A Steam support ticket and a bit of patience should be all you need to get your keys returned.

Actually, the fact that what he gave was keys rather than inventory gifts could pose a problem. They are actually pretty good about fixing these things, especially if it's the first time it's happened to you, but if you just typed some keys to him and then he sent you a copy of RUST, then to Steam it just looks like he sent you a gift copy and there's not much you can do. You need to be able to prove to Steam that you sent him stuff. As a rule I don't trade keys with anyone I don't know. It'a good policy to make sure you can get your stuff back if there's a scam.

This is why the lol +rep system everyone swears by is completely useless and not worth a damn.

Comment has been collapsed.

That's not true. You just have to take the time and look the the +rep people have. There is no way to fake +rep from honest, well known traders. If someone has been around for a few months at least and has dozens of +rep from all kind of different, honest traders then you can be 99.9% sure that it's not a scammer.

what the fk does vac bans have to do with scumbag traders?

Permalink

Take CS:GO and people banned on other games like call of duty. When I see someone with a VAC ban I don't care about the game they got banned for. A cheater is a cheater, which for me is lower on the ladder than a cockroach. So yeah, I would never trade with someone VAC banned.

Cheating is a pretty wide area and - while it's hopefully a minimal amount - there are false positives out there, and various grey area cases. I am reluctant to trade with VAC banned users too, but it should always be taken in context along with account details, reputation, etc.

If you traded the keys for Rust via the steam trading system you should be able to get steam to give your keys back.

That requires you to be able to speak English though, seeing as Steam support is pretty terrible already I doubt they will bother with broken English.

Permalink

There are support reps who speak many different languages. Steam provides it's services globally and I would imagine they support these services globally too.

You can save tons of money by trading crate keys for games rather than buying them for full price on Steam.

Getting the most bang for your buck doesn't mean you are broke nor does it mean you're a kid.

what do you mean?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That if someone trades you a game for a really low price, then it's probably something fake or stolen. For example, don't accept a trade where someone offers you a copy of any CoD for 1 Key. It's a scam for sure.

You see in next weeks. If you are buying cheap copies check minimum(legit) market(traders) prices.
