It's the same for those of us who're into profile leveling. Total waste of cash, but it's so hard to quit. :D

Yep. Fully believe you. Tons of my friends got knifes=2000$. Its just they are lucky, not us unlucky. Well, gonna stop opening cases for a while. And want to suggest the same thing to others. Cases are bad.

Exactly, if you only got a few dollars on your wallet to spare, you won't bother with wasting it.

I never tried it, and probably never will. It's such a silly idea, when you think of it. You'll likely end up spending more than you win, even if you finally get a knife.
If you really can't resist, then try this simulator. Sure, not as much excitement, but you won't lose anything.

Yeah thx. Gambling is kind of illness. Too bad i have it

I once got an Asiimov and that evened up my loss/profit exactly. And then I kept trying and just lost more. :P

I've wasted a little bit of money on cases. I have never got a single good thing from cases (although I've had friends get some awesome skins). But since my luck has never been good, I just sell the cases. I'd rather have the money to but an extra game, extra trading cards or used towards buying skins I want.

Sad to hear that you never got good drops. Hope your luck is great at other things haha!

I generally don't spend money on games beyond the initial purchase price. This includes in-game micro-transactions, gamble items such as crate keys, and monthly subscriptions. The only exception is DLC and even then I generally despise the concept and don't indulge profusely. I only buy ones that look interesting for games I really enjoy or if I want to support the devs. I try to avoid DLC that comes across as a money grab.

Disallow yourself from buying keys with your actual money. Only buy a key if you can get enough steam-account cash through selling cards / items. It might take you a little while but some cards go for quite a bit.
If not that, then look at the contents of the case, and realise that unless you get the one thing you really want, the selling value of the other items is absolutely nothing, so it's a huge loss. You're better off just buying the skin you want on the marketplace to get it for certain, and at the quality you want. That way you only have to spend once. If you want something rare, well... you're still better off buying it on the marketplace. Unless it's a knife, in which case I hope you're cool with spending hundreds.
As others have suggested, compare the price of a handful of keys to items on your wishlist. Just a few keys is enough cash to have bought something you definitely could have enjoyed during a daily / weekend sale.

I would open them but nobody want to trade Tf2 keys to csgo keys for 1:1. T__T

Eh, I bought tons of keys. Saved me lots of money, both in terms of trading games for cheaper and charging my Steam Wallet. I've probably bought 100+ keys and profited from all of it. Are you by any chance talking about opening cases? Because that's a wholly different story. I've opened 0 cases in my life because you're just asking to throw money down the drain. But your question is worded about keys, not cases.

"how do you hold yourself from csgo keys?"
Step 1: Don't get CS:GO, so you don't need the keys.
Works well for me so far.

I stopped playing CS GO. Seriously though, probably one of the better decisions I've made. Now I can actually play everything else in my library!

I've wasted way too much on cs go keys opening crates when they're worth $10-15 at the time. The temptation is still there because I've had four of my buddies get knives and a few others get $40-50 skins.

I don't play CS:GO, I just use the keys as currency for trading. (Mostly TF2 keys though, as I can buy these with Paypal for cheaper than I can sell them back on the market.)
Never opened a case/crate and never will. It's wasted money.
