SSD is a waste in the PS3 and a waste of money on top of that when you can just get a external driver with a lot more space for a heck of a lot less
1TB SSD cost about as much as a 970 better of just getting with a 1tb usb it will do the same while costing a lot less.

i dont know, if there is a internal ssd with 1tb in a 2,5'' format..

I've never seen 3.5'' SSDs, but there's this http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX200-Micron-Internal-CT1000MX200SSD1/dp/B018FXP30K/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1458445635&sr=8-10&keywords=2.5%27%27+1tb+ssd

ok, but the prize is 7x higher than a normal hdd ^^''

Someone stuck a 4TB in theirs after cutting and bending some of the metal to make it fit. I've also seen people use Desktop hard drives externally by using SATA extension cables before.

That was PS4. PS3 doesn't support a hard drive of that capacity.

My bad. I followed a few links and linked that one since it showed a modification and missed the "4". D'oh!
The infamous 2TB ceiling comes from a 512-byte cluster size and 32-bit addressing limitations (0.5 * 2^32/1024/1024/1024). Using larger clusters, like 32KB, you can increase that limit exponentially. The PS3 does appear to at least support external drives of >2TB in size if you format it with large clusters.
From a modding site (which I won't link because it contains piracy tutorials)
Hi there @DEFAULTDNB , guess what? I reformatted the drive from scratch to FAT32 with a 64kb cluster size still using miniaide fat32 formatter and it'S working as it should so far! All 3.63tb formatted size appear useable, copied 2.27tb worth of data to it and all works fine so far! games are playing fine off the drive! Not sure why this didn't work the first time but alls gud now....so yes the ps3 can read off and write to a 4tb external hard drive (real life experience) hope someone finds this thread useful. Thanks again.

It tends to get bad load times with the larger HDD, but only issue I've heard

The day my 60GB version died the YLOD was a sad day ;__;
It was repaired from an external company not Sony but it died again 7 months later so I had to buy a Super Slim the Slim was already sold out. But I still own my PS2 Slim so I can still play the games. Hope you have more luck with yours but it's a good sign that it's still running.

To my knowledge, it is limited to a 1TB file system. While some larger drives may be used, the drive partition won't use the full drive capacity.
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Harddrive
The maximum capacity supported by PS3 is 1TB (TeraBytes) note: this seems untrue as there are several people posting pictures of their external to internal drive mod with a size of 2TB, but so far no one has been able to confirm that, only to debunk it as fake.

i'd suggest checking out SSHD's (hybrid disks) a little pricy compared to regular HDD's but you can feel the difference and they wont bankrupt you like a 1TB SSD would
so SSD's if you are rich, SSHD if you want better load times with plenty of storage as well and regular HDD's if you are poor as fudge

this is a video for the PS4 but the results should be identical with the PS3

Also a SSD is just a waste of money for the ps3 you would be better of putting in your pc.
The load times for games will not be a big enough difference to notice, boot up time will be better and the OS will over all run a bit smoother but do you really need it,is the OS that slow that your life is wasting a way while everything takes a split second to respond.
It is up to you though if you have money to waste get an ssd but any other hard drive would do just fine.

Question why you need so much HDD space on your PS3??

For games. It keeps getting great ones for a dollar, like the Project Zero / Fatal Frame games. :D

I'm annoyed at that sale, don't have the cash to buy a PSN gift card on Amazon.

yes but your really sure that you need 1TB?? Idk for me the sweet spot should be around 500GB and save the rest for a upgrade the PC later. That's my humble opinion ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure about Guppy, but I own several hundred digital purchases. My 320GB doesn't cut it. :P

Hi, Delta, yes of course if you have all those games digital you need a bigger HDD for sure. I have like 15 games and like 5 are digital so for me 320GB more than enough. But bah long time I don't play on my PS3 I mostly watch series and play some games on my PC. I was a big fan of God of War until I get bored. I have a Xbox 360 as well but got RROD so fast less than a year casual use. But since I bought it used din't had guarantee.
I had a couple of games and lots from Games with Gold, but Bayonetta and SR1 was my favorites Now i'm scared to buy a New one and have the same problem :/

1TB is perfectly fine. I have a 1TB Samsung drive in mine model: HN-M101MBB 5400RPM and it works fine..Also the limit...I can't remember correctly but it could be 2TB. Maybe 4TB..idk really..Just FYI...My 1TB is completely full. So if you play alot of games like me..It's possible to fill it up..Also get Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. It's great.

I haven't seen your wishlist.
I have Blood Curse on disc :) Only own Forbidden Siren 2 for PS2 though, yet to find the original

It unfortunately isn't. PAL region did a lot better for the series, getting the second game when North America didn't, and getting a physical release of the PS3 game (though it just installs data to the hard drive like other physical collections of digital games, like the Journey collection).

Well I got a couple PSN cards as well. Didn't get everything I wanted because, well, it would be quite a chunk of change and I have them from Steam/GOG already so no need to really get them from PSN anyway. I would have loved to have gotten the Rayman, other Prince of Persia and Thief games.

I'm thinking about upgrading my hard drive in my PS3 and am wondering if there is a capacity limit that is recognized. I can find that it needs to be 2.5 and 9.5mm thick for physical size and it's not recommended to go above 5400 rpm for heat issues, but I'm not seeing a capacity limit. If I put a 1 TB drive in would it be recognized? I've never shopped for a hard drive like this. Thank you for any help. :)
