Capsized
one of my favorite indie games.
it has an excellent soundtrack as well...

this & FTL have been my 2 favorite indie games above all...
cheap & super worth your time & money.

Torchlight 2 is on sale for $6, that is also another one you should grab up

Fez is alright, there is no real dying in the game, you just pick off exactly where you last fell.
the only way you die is by falling
& all you do is collect cubes, thats the entire game play in the game.

Monaco is also excellent, ive been playing that more lately.
you have 5 or 6 different characters to choose from with different abilities.

My friend just played FEZ in our living room. He loved it, played it to 100%. There may be no real dying, but I heard the puzzles were pretty challenging when you play it to 100%.

There's a LOT of good indie recommendations so far, so my list is going to look a bit skimpy by comparion... but this is only because I'm trying to avoid redundancies here.

My indie recommendations are (In no particular order)...

  • Solar 2
  • Osmos
  • Retro City Rampage -- it's like a playable love letter to the NES-era (in GTA-style gameplay). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
  • Crayon Physics Deluxe
  • The Basement Collection -- Collection of Flash games from Edmund McMillen (one of the creators of Super Meat Boy & the Binding of Isaac), which have been featured on Newgrounds (but without all the advertisements or potential online headaches). There's extras thrown in as well.
  • Closure -- It's a "dark" game... in a "light" way (Check it out & you'll understand).
  • Super Hexagon -- An incredibly difficult evasion game, from the creator of VVVVVV
  • Night Sky -- From the creator of Cave Story/+ & Ikachan; a simple, but highly visual motion-puzzle game.
  • Snapshot
  • Vessel

If you don't mind going "Off Steam", you can find some freebies at http://www.gog.com/catalogue & set the price to "Free" to see the list. I also suggest checking out http://www.thefreebundle.com/ where you find some interesting indie games that are being given away for free.

Hope this helps expand your library of Indie titles.

Dungeon Defenders

maybe you can buy a 5$ game and trade it for a key from the humble bundle (which includes ALL the DLCs)

Resonance if you like point & click adventures. A bit on the short side, but pretty good and with some unique features.
Fortix if you can't be bothered to win it here ;) (seriously, it's actually a very fun game for a buck)
Gundemonium Collection if you like bullet-hell shmups (I've heard eXceed Complete Pack is actually a better choice, but I've not played those 3 games yet)

anything else I would suggest has already been mentioned

The Dead Linger, nice in terms of both game AND developer. The developer is very open about their development on twitter and their forums.

Try Super Crate Box, it's totally free and on steam. Also Cave Story+, the legendary platform indie game. Oh and if you want to suffer, La-Mulana. The game is a little bit expensive regarding the price of other games like that, but it totally worth it.

I also adore indie games. Look for indie games beyond the ones on steam. checkout indiestatik great place to find more amazing indie games.

You might like to try out Game Dev Tycoon, if you like management type games it's fairly enjoyable.

Fez is kinda suitable if you want a slow-playing game. I recommend Sang-Froid, many of my friends recommend that, gameplay is similar to Orcs Must Die 2 but it's harder
