He was born in a wealthy family, was a trouble maker as a teenager.
His siblings were getting good grades while he was trying to sneak out the house to party. He wanted to get away from his family so bad, he took an exam and got into a university in the united states. After a semester, he then cancels his submission for another one without letting his parents know and spends the refund on partying. After a couple of years he enrolls to Berklee college to study music.
He then started rapping and sent demo tapes to Korean music labels eventually got picked up by one and debuted with a song called "I totally became a bird(Slang in Korea meaning something like "I am totally fucked"... not quite but close enough)". The trend back then in the internet was to post "bizarr" shit on the internet and it was huge. He was it.
He became huge. But after a year he gets busted smoking weed which is a huge crime in Korea. He eventually gets on air(accidentally on the news) while he was cheering on the street for the Korean national soccer team during the 2002 World Cup. He releases his second album with the title "Champion(This is probably the most popular song of his in Korea.)".
He did a lot of shows and concerts and became known for one of the best Korean performers on stage. He then, like any other Korean man, had to fulfill his military service. He chose to work at a company that manufactures supplies for the military instead of joining the army. He finishes it and releases a great album. Then he gets prosecuted for doing shows while he was doing his military service. (It is illegal to do any economic activity while serving.) By this time he is married and has two daughters(twins).
He DID go to the army again. This time the real army. He gets out, he releases another awesome album. He then signs with one of the largest music labels in Korea, YG. And this album which is the sixth(containing Gangnam Style), is the first album under the new label. He has written a lot of good songs for other artists too. For me, as a long time fan, it feels good and kind of mixed at the same time. I am so happy for him that he is gaining international recognition, but he surely deserves credit for his music as well which I think people tend not to. Also... Justin bieber's manager called Psy to meet. Why.....
Edit 1 : I must add, HE IS THE ONE OF VERY VERY FEW KOREAN MAN WHO HAS SERVED THE ARMY TWICE. It is mandated for healthy South Korean man to serve 2 years in the army.
Edit 2 : Wow.. my most upboated comment. Here's another fact about him. during his 10-year music carreer in Korea, he released 6 albums. But the time he was banned from being on TV plus the time he served in the army and all, he only officially was exposed to the public for less than 2 years.
Edit 3 : FOUND THIS! DANCE CAM AT THE DODGERS GAME GANGNAM IN LA
Taken from Reddit. He's like the Korean dance Elvis, but more amazing.
