But this thread here has a poll... polls are important xD

The increments are rather limited. $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 only? Unless I'm missing something, that's some pretty big jumps. $15/20 would be a good increment, along with $30, $40, and $60. I know we can send more than one card, but if you want to give someone, say, "Any AAA game" you would want it to be one transaction to make it neat and stuff. Maybe that's just me.
Anyway, I like the ability to do this, I just wish it was more flexible. Maybe this would go well with the writing contested I teased a year ago and then never started...

Nice scheme. First ruin gifting completely, then get people to pay more than they have to (and out of sale time) for an expensive gift card. If you can't send a $10 game to your friend because it's $11.5 in their region, how about gifting them a $20 gift card? Sorry Steam, you'll need to find another sucker to fall for this.

While I agree that removing/changing the gifting policy was pretty crap, I'm actually pleased I can at least send something to the people on my friends list to whom I cannot send games directly
Getting tired of trying to randomly gift people a game, and I can't because "region!". I'd obviously prefer sending a gift, because well ... I always hated getting money in Christmas cards as a kid. At least this is something I can do now.

That is a very viable option but not if you send a lot and not without some added hassle.Point in case the key may not work, weird region locks to watch out for in some cases. No refund if the game is broken/doesn't work.
So, in the end, I think this option might be a happy medium though seriously even Amazon lets you buy a gift card in pretty much any amount why is the biggest retailer of video games still on this tiered system it's obvious more profits.
The same way Crowns work by the way exact same setup up for paid mods in Fallout 4.The lowest package is 7.99 for 750 crowns so if you're short even 50 crowns you have to buy 7.99.Valve will not change this because now if you want to buy your friend a 12 dollar game you have to send them 15 in Steam wallet. They make more and most likely that friend will spend more than that 3 left overto get something.
They have no other valid reason for doing this.

This will make gifting on Steam to other regions possible in a way for me, region locking seriously affected my gifting on Steam.

Agreed. Obviously it would be a neat way to cash out card credit and the like, so... of course not. :|

At least they are trying to still a huge fail given that even Amazon and other big retailers let you pretty much select any amount from 1.00 on up.This is clearly Valve sticking with this system to extend profits nothing more.As if you want to buy your friend a 12 dollar game you now have to send them 15 so they can purchase it or have them foot the rest which defeats the purpose of buying it for a game.
I just don't see why they can't get rid of region locks and always of buying of gifts to anyone but you have to pay the proper price in currency.Like the example, the OP used of buying a gift card for 100 CND but only the friend in the U.S. only gets 80.
Why won't they do this for games cross region if a friend wants to gift a game from a cheaper region to a more expansive one they have to make up the difference but if it's the same region they don't.I would think it would solve the issue of needing region locks as nobody can still abuse cheaper regions?
I mean its still, not a perfect system but I think it would be better than it's current state for gifting games.

You can only send digital gift cards to people who have been on your friends list for a minimum of three days, and you cannot use your own Steam Wallet funds to pay for them—PayPal, credit card, and Bitcoin are your only options.
Useless. I would send the money through PayPal instead because using gift cards you can only send 5, 10, 20... (not custom amounts)

Steam Digital Gift Cards are now available :
A new gifting service called Steam Digital Gift Cards is now available on Steam. As the name suggests, it's basically a hybrid of physical Steam gift cards and the existing gifting system that enables users to put funds directly into the Steam Wallets of people on their friends list.
Digital gift cards "expands on Steam's single-game digital gift service and the tangible Steam Gift Cards" which can be purchased at various retail outlets. To send them, log into your Steam account and head to the Digital Gift Cards page. Select your amount, from $5 to $100, and the recipient. Personalize it with a message, select your pay type, and you're on your way.
The new gift cards can be used to purchase anything on Steam, including games, microtransaction items, hardware, and stuff on the Community Market. Valve said the new setup is not going to replace the existing gift system, but will instead be the sort of thing you can give when you really don't know what the person wants—basically the same as conventional gift cards.
A few points of note: Digital gift cards are only available in preset amounts, and purchases are localized to the gifter's currency and then converted for the recipient—so if, for instance, I spend $100 CDN on a gift card, James will get about $80 US when I send it to him. (Which I am not actually going to do. Sorry, James.)
You can only send digital gift cards to people who have been on your friends list for a minimum of three days, and you cannot use your own Steam Wallet funds to pay for them—PayPal, credit card, and Bitcoin are your only options. And if, for some reason, the person you sent the card to doesn't want it, the purchase amount will be refunded, to the original pay type if possible, and to your Steam Wallet if not.
