We can say that I don't use music genres. In every one of them I'll find songs I like and others that I don't like. But the one you posted - I like that. :)

It's been a while since I've listened to post-rock, but The American Dollar was one of my favorites.

Really? I was following their news on the next album a lot more than a couple of years ago, but damn, its taking so long I just stopped looking for anything...

Lets see then, I like when post-rock bands try different directions. I'm not very cool with the singing tho, unless it fits perfectly. Or they are simply moving towards making something more... commercial? While its not always bad, I will miss their style.

Enjoy Eternal Bliss was one of the few albums of the time that, for me, had something special, with all those Explosions In The Sky wannabes around it (I love EITS, don't get me wrong, but there was a time when there was just too... much... clones). For a time it was hard to find a post-rock band with true personality. Even tho one could say there is still similarities, and there is, Yndi Halda had an interesting and different pace, and a solid melody through the whole songs. Their bridges to choirs and the explosions in the final of the songs were very well constructed with melodies that had actual personality on its own. What its specially hard to do when you're composing 20min songs.

After many years listening post-rock, I can described post-rock by this style :

Mogwai : Quite/loud
Godspeed You! Black Emperor : Crescendo
A Silver Mt Zion : Cinematic
Do Make Say Think : Jazz
Explosions in The Sky : Twinkle Guitar
Mono (japan) : Texture Guitar
Sigur Ros : Ambient Soundscape
Rachel's : Classical
65Daysofstatic : Electronica, Math Rock
Samuel jackson Five : Jazz, Krautrock
Russian Circles : a blend between Post Rock and Post Metal
Destroyalldreamers : Shoegaze
Hammock : Ambient Drone

Explosions In The Sky played twinkle guitar style in their music. And yes, there is so many follower in post-rock scene, playing this style

All of those you named are very unique, are probably most of the top post-rock bands. Bands with personality of their own.

I got bored of EITS style for a while cause I had a blog on blogspot, where I posted albums uploaded on rapidshare (man, that was a long time ago), and most of the new bands I used to find were twinkle guitar, regular post-rock with delayed guitars, etc.

Not their fault, of course.

Yeah, because EITS is more popular than the other bands there.

Hand down to Yndi Halda, enjoy eternal bliss is my favorite too. Best Classic!

One classic, that I like too is EF - Hello Scotland, but their next album is trying to go different direction. It's good, but not too good compared by their epic debut.

This Yndi Halda album was the one that made me follow into modern classical piano.

Today I'm like 99% into modern classical pianists, like Ólafur Arnalds, hardly I listen to anything else. Ocasionally post-rock, or even mainstream rock bands to break the rythm a bit.

I remember Ef by the name, but its been so long I've listened to them. Will give it another try, thanks for reminding me.

Me & my post-rock community, describe Ólafur Arnalds is post-classical. And yes, it is a good stuff to listen.
And Ólafur Arnalds is one of the best Icelandic music scene.

Another one I remembered. Maybe one of my favorite albums together with Yndi Halda's. I've been listening to post-rock for something like 10 years now, but its been a while I've actually searched for new stuff. Today I'm more into modern classical stuff, like Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Dustin O'Halloran, Max Richter, Goldmund, etc etc etc

Let me in, guys !! Nice to see post-rock lover here....

I like almost post-rock band in every country & every sub-genre / style ... from first generation of post-rock (Tortoise, Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, Cul de Sac, Slint, Flying Saucer, etc) until current generation of post-rock (Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt Zion, Do Make Say Think, Explosions in The Sky, Mono (japan) , Sigur Ros, Rachel's, 65Daysofstatic, Samuel Jackson Five, Russian Circles, Destroyalldreamers,Hammock, etc ... )

But, my first post-rock songs that made me falling in love with this genre is : Halcyon (Beautiful Days) by Mono.

Guess the first post-rock band I've listened was probably Juno and their album from 2001, A Future Lived In Past Tense.

I recommend this song specially, A French Letter.

It had vocals, but also GREAT lyrics. And it was the first time I've listened to those epic, long songs and learnt how to appreciate it.

From Juno to everything else, it was a simple step to take.

I'm not a big fan of mowai but, for all i read, they are very good. I'm more of indie rock, i guess... Although i listen practically to everything except for reggeaton and shitty premade electronic music.

As far as I know, post-rock is sub-genre of indie rock as its roots.

Have you listened to this song and their album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will?

I think its their album with most personality, and still easier to the ears of non-post rock consumers.

Some lesser known bands since there are some post-rock fans here and the big names have already been posted, I hope I can help you discover a couple :)

So here is a quick world tour :

April rain (From Russia)
Toundra (From Spain)
Wang Wen (From China)
We lost the sea (From Australia, they had a singer who sadly passed away so their latest album 'departure songs' is a post-rock instrumental LP)
Jakob (From new zealand)
Lights and Motion (From Sweden)
Amiina (From Iceland, with lyrics)

Yeah, I've been listening to it for a while now. Got into it from listening to Port Blue (chill instrumental electronic) on Pandora. This Will Destroy You, God Is an Astronaut, 65daysofstatic (who are doing the soundtrack for No Man's Sky btw!), The Album Leaf, Explosions in the Sky, Hammock, MONO, and Maybeshewill (the only not kind of big name on this list - really quality stuff. You should definitely check out Port Blue and Color Therapy, they're my favorite ambient artists (not really post-rock though). Nobody knows for sure, but it's almost definite that Port Blue and Color Therapy are both made by Adam Young of Owl City. Color Therapy just came into light earlier this year and there's been a few interviews that make it sound like him, plus a few Color Therapy songs are almost identical to some unreleased Port Blue songs. Also The Death of Birds by Soft Ghosts is one of the most beautiful, underrated songs I've ever heard. As a friend once told me "Just imagine little birds dying and going up to heaven." It might sound weird but it's strangely soothing.

Whoops I wrote a lot. ._. Anyway, I hope I gave you something new to listen to! :)

Oh my, yes. I don't listen as much as I used to; the first time I ever encountered post-rock was actually going to see a post-punk band, ...And you will know us by the trail of dead back in 2001. Explosions in the Sky opened for them and totally blew me away. I've been fortunate enough to see many post-rock bands live and I think that's one of the best ways to experience the music.

Some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned are Balmorhea, Pelican, and Earth.
