Have you ever used an ouija board?
Bump, congratulations & thank you. Regarding Oujia boards and the related automatic writing (where people let their hand wander and it seems to form words - fewer people can do this), they rely on what's called [ideomotor phenomenon[(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideomotor_phenomenon), and I agree it's fascinating. There might even be an anti-ideomotor effect, where you subconsciously work against others touching the planchette, though I don't know if that has been studied.
It always makes me sad, though, as it gets me thinking of facilitated communication. With FC, you're dealing with the same effect, but instead of a ghost, people believed they were helping someone with a severe disability to write or point to letters. Multiple tests were devised, such as not showing the facilitator an image, or showing the facilitator and disabled person different images. The former resulted in nothing being selected or a guess, while the latter consistently resulted in the image the facilitator saw being chosen.
The process was discredited, but not before thousands were using it - having conversations, telling stories, writing poetry. The people acting as facilitators were often the most sensitive, caring people you could hope to meet, and thought they were giving victims of being 'locked in' by their conditions dignity and a voice - in reality, they were unintentionally using the disabled person as a living puppet, which must have been a devastating realization. If that's not bad enough, there were cases where FC resulted in sexual abuse claims against parents (the product of the facilitator's subconscious), and even cases where facilitators fell in love with adults they facilitated - believing they developed a romantic relationship over time, and had obtained written consent, they engaged in sex with someone who either couldn't comprehend what was happening or couldn't object.

Ouija board!? You will lose your soul and everything... Just joking. Never come across with one so no stories here, sorry. But how crazy that the Lets build the wall guy won the election! Grats for the level up ^^ I kind of get the Jumanji movie vibe now when you mentioned the ouija xD

I joined SteamGifts in July 2015 because I wanted free games and now I just reached level 7!
I love you, SteamGifts community.
I wasn't really active recently, especially on the forums. Life abroad is hard and now there's a lot of pressure for the whole "job hunting" (or 就職活動) thing. Wish me luck and hopefully I'll find a job and become a fully functioal adult.
Train time! Some games are bundled, some are not, and they're all 2+.
All aboard!
Also, recently I was reading about ouija boards and personally I find them quite fascinating (even though I never played with one and I'm not sure if I want to). I'm curious to hear about your experiences so if you have any just leave a comment or simply answer the poll! <3
