Square Enix Holiday Surprise Box - NOT all games to be Steam keys? (EU region)

Recently my friend realised that the "Steam" marking in the Surprise Box description disappeared.

This is what she found out:

"I contacted Square Enix's EU support asking whether the games would be delivered as Steam keys or DRM free download:

Hello and thank you for consideration of our Holiday Surprise Box.

We cannot guarantee that all game keys will be delivered for the Steam platform, but there will be some Steam Keys included. We hope this has answered your enquiry and should you require further assistance with this or any other issues or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again and we will do our best to help.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

The Square Enix Support Centre team"

Dude, it says some will be steam keys but they can't guarantee all of them will be. Read it again.

Yes, but before description change it was written that all keys are for Steam. It was changed on the fly recently. Some people including me are not interested in DRM free keys.

Slight mistake: this is not about playing games, this is about buying games. And buying games is about +1 to Steam library.

Who cares? They are honest that maybe not all keys will be steam ones. You are free to buy or not buy anything you want. Stop this offended mentality. You are not a victim.

Of course it is! I suppose I understand the mentality behind buying fully into an "ecosystem" but it's really weird to prefer it to freedom.

I didn't purchase in the first place, so no - nothing to cancel ;p It's not like the SE games are bad, but I simply own enough of them that every presious mystery box was not worth it for me and I guess so will this one be - unless they make Mystery Box full of Final Fantasy games and it's not oging to happen ;p

Just relax. Square holiday box has had steam stuff in it for years. Even if some keys wouldn't be steam it would be fine and totally worth it. Just look up past 2-3 years boxes and make up your mind based on the contents they had.

Here's the link to my post your friend read. There's a bit more information/links there. If you continue reading there you'll find replies from the US Store as well (different reply). We were already discussing the possibility for Steam keys in that thread, maybe close this discussion and continue there, so we have everything gathered in one thread, instead of spread across different threads?

Somehow missed that so i thought there are no threads about it. And i just recently realised that the "Steam" marking disappeared so i thought it's kinda fresh news and some people might benefit from it :P

Also, the original description said "The surprise box will be delivered as a Steam key" or something very close to that. The interesting part being a Steam key, as in one. That has also been discussed in the other thread, if they would do like Humble Bundle has done some times, delivering all games within one key (making gifting unwanted/already owned games impossible). They never had a description saying "all keys are for Steam".
