Update: Stealth Purists recruitment will be on hold indefinitely. If you believe you will make a great addition to us and actually be active on the forums, feel free to apply by using one of my public giveaways. I am not looking for inactive members. Thank you.

Hello Steamgifts community. I decided to create a group called Stealth Purists which is directed at Stealth gamers only. I've always wanted to share my passion for Stealth games and meet new people who are like-minded but my previous attempts were in vain. Now that I joined Steamgifts about a month ago, I got the feeling from my past forum posts that there might be some Stealthers like me out there so I want to gather them in one group.

First and foremost, and this is the most important part, this group will not focus on giveaways. I do want to host giveaways from time to time but I don't know when that time will come because I currently have major financial problems. I don't want anyone to have any false hopes when joining this group because my focus is not winning or giving away games here.

My vision is creating and being a part of a safe and friendly place where people can spam the discussion board with all the stealth related topics they want to talk about. Maybe post their reviews if they have any or recommend games or share news/trailers of upcoming stealth games other members might not have heard of, share tactics and help each other become better ghosts. Possibilities are endless in my eyes. As you can see the focus is certainly on social interaction part.

I honestly don't care what your ratio is, I don't care how many games you have given away or won and what their real CVs are. There are only two things I care about and these 2 factors are the only requirements to join this group.

  • Be passionate about Stealth games
  • Be willing to talk about Stealth games in a friendly and respectful manner

I never expected that some generous people would be hosting giveaways for this group even when I specified that the focus is not giveaways. Again while the focus is not giveaways, I still came up with some rules and guidelines for our members to follow if you want to enter these giveaways.

  • Don't be a card farmer or a game collector within the group. You can be one outside of it; but if you enter a giveaway within the group, you are entering it to actually play it.
  • Keep your profile public.
  • If you win a stealth game from this group, I kindly ask you to write a review on our discussion board. Length doesn't matter, you can write 2-3 sentences if you like. Similar to how you applied on this recruitment topic. If there is already a review written on it, use that topic to write your thoughts on.

Your ratio or level doesn't matter and there are no obligatory giveaways. My focus is on community and I wouldn't want for anyone to join the group with false hopes. I also do not want inactive people!

To pick members (if anyone actually wants to join), I kindly ask you to write about your most favourite stealth game and why you like that game more than the other ones. Honourable mentions are also more than welcome. If you want to talk about your favourite stealth game but are not interested in joining the group I kindly ask you to mention this on your reply so I won't annoy you with group invites :D

I will go first of course. It is insanely hard for me to pick one game but I will pick the latest Hitman. The abundance of signature kills, having all the creativity and the freedom of an open world map to plan my move, the challenges that come with Suit Only and Silent Assassin and the replayability value make Hitman the best Stealth game for me personally. I spent around 25 hours on Paris mission alone while putting in around 10-15 hours each on the rest of the episodes and I loved every single second of it, even the seconds that drove me to tear out my hair :)

Here is something that should get you started if you are looking for a good stealth game.

I genuinely hope that this topic will help me meet Stealth maniacs like me and pave the way to form great friendships in the near future. I hope you all have a great day no matter what genre of game you play <3

I'd love to join. I'd pick Assassin's Creed 2 as my favorite Stealth game. It's a game I became addicted to as soon as I first saw it, and I fully completed it at least two times. I completed the first part and part Brotherhood as well, but I haven't found time to play the later games, which is a shame. The openworld-ness of AC and the way of discovering things is what makes it so unique, and of course, being a stealthy assassin instead of simply hack-and-slashing is what makes it fun.

Furthermore I have spent many hours in the last Hitman game, which is a great game if played a few times with each time different strategies, but trying hard to achieve the more difficult achievements such as "Suit Only" is what makes it kinda frustrating and turns it into a "Save > Die > Reload" game, where you have to play around the wonky AI behaviour to succeed. Though it's always interesting to turn into a complete maniac and demolish the Stealth-part by just shooting everyone with the "Silverballers"...

Welcome to the group. What I like the most about Hitman games in general is the Suit Only challenges. The situation you are talking about reminded me of my most favourite Hitman meme. I totally understand the frustration, but I really don't mind reloading a save 100 times until I get it perfectly even though I know it's self torture :D It feels fantastic when I get it done, though.

I may or may not be interested in joining however I'd like to mention (if anyone hasn't already :P) the stealth approach for Shadows of Mordor.
I'm currently finishing it up and I've played/ chopped orcs heads as stealthy as possible, so yeah, there's passion alright!
Can't wait to play Dishonored II or at least watch other play it as I'm too in financial problems, being unemployed sucks hard, man

May this work as bump!

I accidentally found this group. Been a fan of the genre for quite some time. I've played metal gear (still missing PP), ACs (currently playing syndicate), dishonored, hitman... I always try to find some stealth games here and there, sometimes I find some decent games like the saboteur, sometimes I end up playing terrible games like Velvet Assassin... My next stealth game probably will be aragami, heard good stuff about it. Would love to join the group and some suggestions as well.

Sorry about that! Your steamname sounded like a male name in portuguese and that's why I made the stupid conection of you been male.
I remembered your puzzle because I tried every variation of "I'm blind, not deaf" as his famous sentence. I clearly wasn't prepared xD

Aww, I actually added that as an alternative answer after a couple of days. "You are not prepared" has been used to death so I really thought that it was an obvious choice, even among people who played Warcraft 3, including myself. But I totally understand the reasons so I felt seriously bad and added that as an answer. I even removed the comma as an extra alternative answer :( After like 2-3 days the correct answers were:

  • You are not prepared
  • You aren't prepared
  • I am blind, not deaf
  • I am blind not deaf

:(

My profile says Illidan Fangirl and Hitwoman. I thought it was kinda obvious :D But that's okay and I appreciate your explanation.

I think I'd like an invite as well.
I like stealth, but I haven't played that many games - Mark of the Ninja and Dishonored are the two that really stands out AND I spent a lot of time on (42 and 150 hours, respectively) Thief, Hitman games nad Styx are up to be played sometimes - I hope it's not a problem if I don't play consistently any genre of games, it's really up for my mood. But I can totally go with the discuss about stealh part :)
Also, hard to pick favourite (from the two) - Mark of the Ninja is more planning and more elegant, especally with Path of Wisdom. Dishonored... I played it on low chaos, high chaos, without powers, with powers, forgetting paintings, replaying the whole again - and I loved the Daud- DLCs even more than the base game, as it upped the storytelling and worldbuilding, while giving access to even more gadgets (especially non-lethal ones). I'm not sure if I'll struggle to get the Trials achivements, they feel hard, mostly because of the game's controls aren't really made for fast combat / aiming. Or just my PC sucks :)

As long as you enjoy stealth that's fine. You can play other genres too :D

I really loved Mark of the Ninja. My most favourite experience was speed running NG+ with Path of Silence. I seriously loved Path of Silence, it definitely improved the gameplay for me in magnitudes I can't even begin to explain :D

Dishonored is an epic game. I'm making my preparations before Dishonored 2. Hitman and Aragami must be 100% completed and then my last activity on Steam will only display Dishonored 2 starting from 11th of November:D

As for Dishonored 1, the only thing that's keeping me from reaching 100% completion is a few achievements from Dunwall City Trials DLC. It's one of the worst DLCs ever. I hated it and I hate that it's keeping me from a full completion :( I admit that I also really enjoyed Daud's perspective and those DLCs were quite fun; but I still prefer my Corvo :P

Hi, I just saw this thread and am interested in joining your group.
I really liked Styx, it was not perfect, but I loved that you HAD to play stealth, because you are a goblin and your enemies are twice your size and strength ;) the story was a bit confusing though ;) I'm looking forward to play the sequel.
I'm also waiting for Sniper Elite 4 and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 to be released (both were supposed to be released this year but have been postponed to 2017). Both are supposed to be much more open than the previous games.

I really like Styx because of the requirement of stealth play. No handholding, no easy way out. You either stealth it or can't progress, I loved it :D

I loved the sound design of Thief - The Dark Project. I played it with headphones in the dark and it scared the shit out of me. I never finished it because I lost interest once it took a turn for the supernatural.

Not really a stealth game because you are forced to commit brutal violence to survive, but the frightening sounds in the dark (plus some really disturbing monster design) of The Forest evoke similar aspects of fear and tension in me that make it feel safer to play in a stealthy manner. The game is still in early access and I don't think you could actually resolve the story when I last played it, but there's enough there for a thrilling experience (it is primarily a survival game).

Also not a stealth game in the classical definition, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is more of a horror/thriller type game, but it does develop that sense of powerlessness that I find so uncomfortable but intoxicating.

Thanks to luizfcsilveira for suggesting The Dark Mod - I will definitely be checking that out.

My favorite stealth game are Hitman and Dishonored. I played Hitman Blood Money long time ago and the feeling when you eliminate the target in stealth way is so satisfying for me, also the ending of this game surprised me xD

For Dishonored I recently did the Ghost, Shadow, Mostly Flesh and Steel, Clean Hands, Just Dark Enough in one go and it was really difficult but when I accomplished it, I felt really good.

Another one I want to mention is Batman in the Predator Challenge I also like this too.

That's all I guess maybe some more I forget to mention, I hope I can join your group and find more interesting stealth game :D

I can't wait for something like "Only Flesh and Steel" achievement in Dishonored 2 as we are allowed to reject Outsider's Mark and not have any abilities this time.

Congratulations on your achievements, Dishonored was truly a great game :)

nice initiative. My favorite stealth game is Hitman and have played every game in the series . I tried playing deux ex , splinter cell and dishonered but couldnt bring mylself to like as much as Hitman, because in Hitman you can hide in plain sight. I liked MGS V, stealth was good , you could hide in plain sight under a box , but still not as fun as Hitman (stealth wise).

Loved to play Deus Ex, Thief and Hitman series from 2000 year :-)
Especially when it's a stealth-RPG and currently I'm enjoying Dying Light, here if you aren't stealthy - you're simply dead. And sure, I'm interested in discussing more and more about stealth games, very nice group concept!

I just found this group. I'd love an invite.

What I love in Stealth games are the feeling of control. You are watching the battlefield and choosing how to move, where to hide and who to kill. I loved the first mission in the old Deus Ex, where they gave you the option of entering the compound guns blazing, or carefully start killing the guards non letally, as I did.

Recently I played Sniper Elite III, which is also in a way a stealth game, if you play right. I loved controlling the battlefield and carefully killing everybody in sight without anybody noticing.

well i am too old to remember all of them, but to be honest i used play all games stealthy, you should see me in 1996 playing quake or doom :D but commandos, thief and first hitman are probably those best memories. Or Jagged Alliance as well, turn based stealthiness. No commandos were the best. So tense.

I'd love to join this group haha.
One of my favourite stealth games (eh?) is Payday 2. Despite the recent controversies, it still maintains a high multiplayer count even for a country like mine. I like its wide variety of stealth missions and the factors that entirely affect your mission. (skills, weps, etc.)
A more indie-stealth game that I play from time to time I guess would be Monaco.
I'd also like to mention Murdered: Soul Suspect

Great idea for a group, I'd love an invite!

MGS1 on psone is far and away my favorite stealth game to date. I still remember the moment where my brain switched from "run in guns blazing" to "wait and observe". An honorable mention to MGS:PW. Probably the best stealth game I've played on a portable system, loved knocking guys out and having the fulton carry them back to base.

I recently picked up Deux Ex: Human Revolution (Director's Cut) and it's on my "play soon" list. I mostly game on my mac book pro these days, so I'd love some suggestions for mac compatible stealth games to try.

can a lurker join?
also I agree Old School Best School, new games are too focused on action
(looks at splinter cell) , yes im talking about you!
edit: forgot to discuss my fav stealth game
It has to be Commandos BEL, i remember spending upwards of an hour en each mission trying to clear them perfectly without being seen nor injured in any way. using one char to bait a guard and then shanking them with the green beret felt good but cheap. clearing missions without that trick was very hard.
