I currently have Netflix. I've had it for a few years now. In a lot of ways, I've exhausted it's selection... some shows and movies I enjoy watching and re-watching, so it's worth keeping around still.

But I'm considering signing up for Hulu Plus as well. I figure between the two of them, it's about $14 a month. Pretty reasonable since I have no interest in getting cable TV set up in the house and they would be my primary go-to's for movies and television.

I'm just wondering how much I'm benefiting with Hulu Plus. Looking around the site, it seems to be a bit lacking in content (some shows don't even indicate that they can be streamed on anything but a PC) and there's some crossover between the Hulu and Netflix catalogs.

Anyone out there have Hulu Plus? How does it compare to Netflix? Is there any benefit to having it, as well as Netflix?

EDIT: I know there's a trial for Hulu Plus, which I'll probably try at some point.

He already has Netflix. He wants to know whether or not to get Hulu Plus, also. (I've never tried Hulu, so I can't help, there.)

I'm not really looking for "one or the other". I already have Netflix and I'm going to keep it... I'm just wondering if Hulu Plus offers anything different/substantial enough to warrant having both.

If XBMC involves me providing my own movies and video files then... NOPE.

If you want or you can stream everything off of 1channel and Project Free TV, it has like 20 times the amount of stuff as Netflix/Hulu.

He said he wants a legit website, which actually requires him to pay for the stuff he watches? lol..read -__-

I did, his main post says nothing of the sort, how about you stop being an ass with your shit sarcasm comments? If it was in a comment, hell you think everyone reads through every single comment, get a grip -_-...

It's true though... I also don't really have the setup for an open source, DIY solution like that. Need something that can flow through my Roku or my PS3 (without some kind of wonky jailbreaking) so I can watch on TV.

I appreciate the advise either way.

Yeah but your main post didn't say it(Unless I really missed it, re-read it though...), probably was said in a reply and I dont know about you but I don't read through everyone usually...and ShiSixth decided it was a moment for him to feel big, sad really.

Try out Hulu though, I just dislike that it has commercials.

If you are ok with the grey area of streaming, I do think that Plex can run through Roku which also has apps like 1channel.

Doesn't Hulu Plus still advertise commercials?

Yep. You get 1 or 2 less commercials but that is it.

I don't even think you get less commercials. But some shows give Hulu Plus more episodes (like last 5 for normal users, whole season for H+) and you're mostly paying for the privilege of playing on devices like phones, Xbox, etc.

Well, I can say about my experience... Currently I have netflix, hulu and crunchyroll and i always have content to watch. Also I watch almost all current series via Hulu, which is a plus for me. It worth the price for me, lots of good classics and new tv series.

My understanding is that Hulu Plus is good for watching current TV shows (i.e. days after original airing), whereas with Netflix, you have to wait for the show to be released on DVD/Blu-Ray before you can stream it.

Decided to try the trial, I have to say Hulu Plus is disappointing.

A coworker mentioned Hulu Plus has The Following... Netflix has season 1, Hulu Plus has season 2... but only the last like 5 episodes. So even with the two services, there's a huge gap. Out of the like 25 seasons of The Simpsons, it has a whopping 5 episodes as well. Can only imagine other shows follow this trend as well.

It also has advertisements. I'm not entirely sure what I'd be paying for if I let this week trial roll over lol.

Seems like the only redeemable quality is South Park... which is technically free on SouthParkStudios.

If you have an account with your local cable provider (mine is xfinity) then you do not need Hulu Plus. Most cable providers provide online access to stream video on demand as a complimentary part of a cable and internet package. Hulu Plus is really stupid because you pay for it and it still raises a middle finger to its customers with unavoidable ads.

I would say screw Hulu Plus unless you don't have a cable account to use/ don't want to pay for cable/ cannot leech off of parents' account.

Another advantage to a cable account is free live streaming of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and other networks. Mine has:

Disney, Disney XD, Disney Junior
TBS
TNT
FX, FXX
TruTV
History Channel
and lots of other channels to stream live.

There is no substitute for a cable package.

To your point on having a cable account, some Hulu shows you can only watch if you have a participating cable account. When I was watching SyFy's Helix it wouldn't let me watch episodes unless I linked my Hulu account with my cable account and they won't even let me watch it on Xbox.

Until they get rid of commercials for Hulu Plus there's no way I would pay money for it. Netflix is great, price is going up soon though.

Some tv stations websites, cbs.com comes to mind, offers some shows free too, though some only focus on the last ~5 episodes.

Hulu Plus is not that great. Even if you pay, there will be commercials. Also they do not keep episodes on there, after a while the disappear so if you want to watch something, like a TV show, then you can not watch it completely.
