Before I go any further, this is a whitelist de-recruitment. Explanation follows.

There are some really wonderful people on this site, and I feel it’s time I apologize to them.
I’ve a bunch of unplayed wins, and I’m sincerely asking those I’ve won games from but still haven’t played, that you would please remove me from your whitelists. There have been some great games that I should have never won, and at present I really don’t know if I’ll ever play them. I’m struggling to find a lot of time to play for more than a few hours each week. I’m really sorry to the givers, and to those who missed out on winning because I selfishly entered those giveaways.

(In fact, anyone who has whitelisted me, I’d love to be un-whitelisted, at least for the indefinite future.)

I will not be removing anyone from my whitelist, but I may add a few people who comment in this thread. I don’t do many whitelist giveaways though. My rules for whitelists mainly revolve around ratios, and number of games won over your time here at SG. If you think you’re eligible, feel free to ask, though you also run the risk of a blacklist if you’re wildly ineligible.

EDIT: Thank you all for the comments, and for those who removed me from your whitelist, thank you for submitting to my silly request.
I have reorganised my won list, and from now on, I'll only join giveaways from people I don't already owe a debt to :)
At least this way it keeps my guilt to a manageable amount.
I still owe 4 people for the excess of wins/gifts I have from them.
But hope to whittle down my unplayed wins this year, and be in a better headspace around receiving gifts.

Have a giveaway
I'd love to do more giveaways, but between Fanatical's mediocre/over-priced bundles and HB Choice/Bundles' region restrictions... hmm.

That's a brave confession and honest work. I am trying to play every win but can't catch them all. Time is a chain for all of us. Maybe one day you'll turn back and play them. Don't be that negative about it.

You didn't enter any other of my GA since you won, i mean you're not a compulsive participant.
I mean you're someone that i appreciate here even though we seem to have very different personality and i'm always happy to meet you on this forum. So unless you find it horribly tempting, kept you whitelisted just to let you know i like you in fact.

I feel very related to what you say. I've often thought of asking people to remove me from whitelist, and also often I don't enter whitelist recruitments; tho other times I do, don't know why. It's a bold step forward. I'm sorry but I'm not removing you from my whitelist. However I raise my hand and although my reasons are different, I say and ask the same.

(Sorry Maya for kinda hijacking your post.)

Due to personal stuff, I've not played most of my wins, earning blacklists and whatnot. Something that is quite common here, apparently. But that's no excuse for me. I've also mentioned it and said sorry publically several times, again still not enough. I am still in many whitelist, undeservingly. So remove me from your whitelist and let others win your games while I keep trying to play my wins. My backlog is huge and I don't always play games won here. I'm on it, during 2024 I played quite several wins, but still far from enough, with nearly 400 unplayed wins. You can remove me from your whitelist, or put me in your blacklist, you decide. I rest my case.

I can't talk about Maya or others.
I've been depressed since Dec 9, 2023, almost every day since. I might still put silly descriptions and make jokes in my giveaways or comments. I might sound enthutiastically saying to winners "congrats, enjoy it!" on their wins or wishing happy cake days. And, I really wish them a happy cake day, and that they enjoy the win, whenever they get to play it, now or in five years. But I'm not that enthusiastic 99,9% of the time. I'm depressed, I'm apathic, I find hard to have a motivation to do stuff, etc. When I do things, it's mostly escapism to not have to think of other things; yet the first step still takes so much effort.
So yes, you can put me in that "are you all depressive today" bag, indeed I am.

Duck, sorry that it was correct. Let me present you a point of view then.
If you're still on so many whitelists that you think are undeserved, it's because many random people that you don't know appreciate the person they see here called JMM72. You could think it's not the real you. But still there is something from your personality that makes people like you and find you a nice and valuable person.

Now i can empathize with you, partly, probably not to the point you're, but there are days i still drink a lot, so know i sympathize.
I'm not the most funny person, but if one day you need someone to talk, or just a presence, feel free to add me on steam.

Meantime you could cook yourself a hot chocolate ? Or a coffee ? Did you watch if there are movies at cinema that you would like to see ? An exposition in a museum ? Swimming pool or bike can help a lot too !

I've just started Peaky Blinders, finished the 2nd episode after meal.

My plan is to watch one season of Peaky Blinders, and then one season of Breaking Bad, another series I want to watch once.

About alcohol, I stopped drinking Jan 1st, 2024. It's something I don't need in my life. I am not going to give you a speech about it, but while it's kind of more symbolical than true, I always remember this scene from Bagger Vance:

Yes but no, not that way ! I'm not scary when i drink, i fall asleep after making lame jokes. There are different sort of drinkers, the violent, the annoying, the stupid... and the fall asleep ones. I'm a stupid/asleep.
Congratz for having stopped however, that's something i couldn't but in reality you're ofc right ! ;)

Yeah, well I wasn't addicted or anything. No big deal. I'm addicted to caffeine tho and I want to quit.

When drunk, I got either more depressed, or became what I call the "in vino veritas" (in wine is the truth) kind of drunk. I would leave behind my inhibitions and be more of myself than I usually am. I would dance, sing, joke and laugh.

My husband (is someone who truely cares), when he sees me in sorrow with big worries, then he knows that it's "lesser of two evils". Sometimes some problems solving them doesn't just depend on us, and corrode us over several years. There's no such thing as a perfect world below but we can just try to help make it better or tend towards the lesser evil.

Also you're always extremely nice to others, but i'm sure you would enjoy my company better too when i'm no more a judgemental a***** who makes spreadsheets ! :p

Agree with Coley. You are so great on the site. I will remove you if the spacecat actually makes you sad, but if you are playing games in your library, and some game gifted might make you feel better some day, then I'm cool with it sitting for 5-10 years. You earned your spot on my list.

I don't think it's that big of a deal unless you're joining/winning ga's that ask you to play and you ignore that, case in which, "Burn the witch!". I doubt the other gifters would go on a crusade, or is it an addiction for you to enter what you can, hence why you want to reduce those chances, but then wouldn't you do the same in public ga's? I think you're beating yourself with a stick for no reason.

I understand.

People should be grateful for the givers and not take everything for granted.

Games cost people money and I feel, people are way to quick to jump onto your giveaways and not know what costs people to be able to give those games away.

They just think: "here's something free for me to grab or take advantage of".

At least, that's what it feels to me.

I talked about the possibility of giving away a few Steam Wallet funds to friends and I got a ton of people thinking and commenting in an egotistical way, like I was overflowing in money to give them things away.

I even had to block one person that repeatedly DM'ed and spammed me for over a day.

If I start a giveaway or something similar, I need to make sure it's going to the right person.

They should deserve it and win their right to get something special from me.

Money and life is hard for everyone.

So yeah, I considered the possibility of being generous and giving things away to people that matter.

And when I did and talked openly about it, I got a ton "parasites" or people begging for something.

They brain stopped at the words "Steam Wallet" and they haven't read anything else in that message and just talking like I was giving away something.

Then, they also started begging and I got a bunch of likes, follows, retweets and things like that, out of nowhere.

That's it.

I get you.

Hope you have a great day! 👍

I will un-whitelist you, because the way you are asking it sounds like you're overwhelmed and underwater and just need less. With 4800 games in your game list, that sounds overwhelming.

But note I'm removing you under protest and I'd rather not. 😄 I usually add people to my list that are helpful and keep things moving on a good way, and if a spacecat can brighten your day, and give you something that might maybe some decade get played and be the right game at that time, that's good by me.

It's an interesting reflection, but whatever life events lie behind this sudden cry, you don't need to apologize for not playing these games. When you give something away voluntarily, you acknowledge that you no longer have power over what you've given - we all want our actions to have a deep meaning, we all want our actions to be justified.

When you gave gifts to other people over the years, did you demand gratitude from them, demand that they play the games they received, demand confirmation that your gifts were not in vain?
Why give a gift if it evokes such heavy and unpleasant feelings? It doesn't feel like a gift, but a punishment.
Why give a gift if it already obliges one of the parties to something? It feels like a contract, not a gift.
Life is not easy in itself.

Don't burden yourself.
These are just digital products.
You didn't mean to hurt anyone.
Don't put the value of material stuff above the value of your health.
There are countless copies of digital products in the world, and getting another one, legally or illegally, is easy in most cases. You are not one of those products, you are more important.

Obviously I can't speak for others, but for my GAs, even if the person never ends up playing it, all I want is that they had the intention to play it (as opposed to just wanting +1s). Even better if they actually try it, but I get that things don't always go as expected.

I've felt similar, though. I feel so bad for some of the games I won - even though I know I'll play them in the (hopefully near) future once I upgrade my PC. I worry that the givers will think I won't play them/don't appreciate them :x

I also just struggle doing stuff in general, no matter how much I want to/how fun it is. Even wins I was looking forward to, I've had to force myself to play them >.> Luckily I have tons of free time, though, and have been slowly catching up.

I don't usually comment a lot here, but after reading your post, I wanted to share that a while ago I realized that I've acquired more games than I can ever play... So I decided not to buy any more games (outside of a very few insanely good offers, if any) and am not entering as many giveaways here as I used to. Although I often try to prioritize playing games won here, I put off bigger games as I usually play for a few hours at a stretch. I usually don't pay too much attention to tracking my stats here through scripts, but have managed to increase my Steam completion rate from mid-30s to above 50% within a few months. Nevertheless, my Steam library is growing at a faster rate than I can play games at... so I can understand your sentiment. Good luck with your backlog!

If it is true that I have seen groups and others that require you to play something, I see it as quite absurd, it is as if you give someone a cap and demand that they wear it for the first month, a pressure that I don't think anyone needs. But in the end it is just a personal opinion, in these cases it is solved by not participating in those draws.
As for the white list, I think that if you are on many, it is because people who don't know you feel appreciation for what you do here, there is nothing else.
Enjoy your victories, because in the end, many of us who give away only want the winner to enjoy the prize, whether today or in 10 years.
Sorry for the long text.

My previous SG account, I had 1708 games given, 394 games won. And probably of those games I won, I had only played maybe 10% of them? 20% at most. Not ideal. Previous account

This time around, I make sure to play my wins within four months. I may not finish them depending on how much I actually am enjoying them, but I play each one before that timeframe elapses. Why four months? Because that's the criterion for the Akatsuki group, which I was a mod in for a few years and of which I am a member now again since being back on SG. Since we have a four month play or pay requirement, I've just made that my standard in general.

Anyway, no real point other than, things happen, and things change in our lives. I was an executive chef when I had my previous account and spent no less than 50 hours a week working, and often as many as 80 hours. It was pretty hard to find the mental space to try to play everything I was acquiring back then. Now, I just take private chef contracts in the winter and general contracting contracts in the summer. It's a more convenient, more fun, and less time-consuming way to handle my work life and provides a better balance for my life in general.

I also find it's a good idea to draw a bit of a line in the sand. Every game you own before that line was drawn is what it is. Maybe you'll get to them, maybe you won't. Every game you acquire afterwards, make a point of playing. It's easier to give yourself a fresh start in that manner and not have any sort of guilt over having games sitting there unplayed.

My house is full of things I want to read or use and don't have time to. My steam library is full of games I want to play and don't have time to. I plan to never play most of the games I own. I still like winning games and giving games away. There are people on here with 10k+ wins.

Recently, I've been trying to only enter for games that are 80%+ or 90%+ rating.

You could just enter fewer giveaways and only ones you're really interested in. I recommend the TalePlay and Playing Appreciated groups - lots of easy wins for those that like to play!

If you see WL GAs from me (they aren't too common either, I am afraid), feel free to enter them if you want the game, even if you will only play it next decade or something. As long as you feel you might play it some day, it's fine with me. :D

(To be honest, depending on the GA, I might not even care if people only enter for +1, though I guess that does not apply to you at all.)

Cheers!

Hey Maya, I understand your point, but I'm not removing you from my whitelist.

I also have a lot of unplayed wins, and I've been working on it for the last months, but every person situation changes, and now I just don't have the time to play anything. I will have in the future, but not now, and this is something 99% of the people might relate. Also, for me, SG whitelist is something more than just a "I only want these people to participate in my GAs", but more a "they add value to the website, I'd love to give them the recognision".

Same applies to everyone in my WL

Kudos for having the decency to hold yourself accountable and go a step further with having others holding you accountable as well, facing a self-imposed consequence.
