Last night I asked support for my first re-roll on account of rule-breaking. I don't think that person ever took the time to activate a gift, let alone to thank a giveaway creator. Nonetheless, he/she was able to do this for two and a half years before finally being banned. (it's the non-activated list on sgtools, for those wondering)

Winners check their winners!

I know who that is, he won a recent giveaway from me. I didn't check for broken rules until after sending the game, after I saw that, I reported him and now he was permanently suspended. Going to start checking for rule breakers from now on, thanks to him.

Most of the winners of my public GAs were rule-breakers... I just send the keys, report them and hope the actions taken by support are enough to change their ways :)... but that was way too much

It was, not only he didn't activate any game from his almost 40 wins, but he also won the same game more than once.

The user had 3 multiple wins besides all of those non activations.

True.
You checked my profile to find out who he was? ;)

Either that or I have a crystal ball. :-)

I know of one justice bringer who would be proud of me (and sigma3) for getting him permanently suspended, since it's what she likes to do. :D

You both would mark some points and If every SG user would check his winners each time be it bundled, unbundled, game or DLC then my SG rules sensei would have far less clean up work to do! ^^

We can't do all the work or the sensei will feel meaningless and without a purpose. However, I will do better from now on and check for broken rules and/or multiple wins. :)

I usex to check but it got to a point where every other winner had re-gifts/multi-wins/non-activations and I couldn't get a re-roll as they'd already been suspended.

I'm not saying g every suspension should be permanent but creators should have a choice when it comes to rule breakers. At the very least the system needs tweaking so we do t have to waste our time checking for a suspension that's already been served.

As SG doesn't have the user functionality to check if a suspension is served or not except by contacting SG support I personally use SGTools for the bulk of my giveaways now. My first hundreds of SG giveaways were public and I had a lot of major SG rules breakers and/or multiple winners not counting other things. And those are the main reason why I now use SGTools a lot with my (and a lot of other SGTools users) most used SGTools requirements: all games activated, no multiple wins and no VAC bans.

I have used SGTools but it's adding extra work and isn't feasible for the high level flash giveaways that make up the majority of my giveaways from bundle leftovers.

Talking about me personally, the added work is negated by the gains. I made over a 1000 SGTools giveaways and apart from the handful SGTools cheaters and leakers in all of those giveaways together I have no more winners that have non-activated wins, that are re-gifters or trade their wins, no multiple winners and no winners with VAC, game, trade ban(s).

And that's a good thing for all the SG users that enter my giveaways that aren't SG rule breakers and so don't have to compete with SG users that are rule breakers.

Yep, gotta report them rule-breakers.
If you don't, you're just screwing over the next guy.

Good to do so Sigma because If you didn't that user would just continue to break major SG rules. If one comes across such a major SG rule breaker and does nothing then there's a high probability that that user would just continue to not activate their won gifts and have multiple wins, both of those are breaking major SG rules.

Note that with SGTools one can look for non activated wins and multiple wins.

He/she had only three multiple wins... I thought the non-activated list would make enough impact...

For sure as I have never seen so much non-activations for only one SG user.

Well, I caught a guy (he was offering me a trade) who won freakin' Stellaris and did not activate the game. I sent a report but it has been 2 weeks and the dude keeps winning and not activating.
I just think the ratio users/rulebreakers:support is kinda unfair. I doubt a handful of people can handle such a large amount of reports

Try contacting the giveaway creator - if he submits a ticket for reroll, it gets handled within a day (the reroll probably won't happen as the game is lost, but support will see and act)

I doubt the giveaway creator even cares. He was last online 2 weeks ago and for the last two years he has only given 1 game (Stellaris). I don't even know why he made such a giveaway.
But, I will sent him an invite.

Not a very good idea, if there's a misunderstanding and the reroll is approved, good luck dealing with the new winner

Is there a reason why this isn't automatically verified by Steamgifts when syncing? I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to implement a system to automatically detect rule breakers and notify support so that they can check it out.

This has been suggested so many times, yet it's not happening. I wonder why.

I wonder why too, it would make things a lot easier for support.

If I had to guess, because of the high rate of false positives makes it hard to systematically enforce it without manual intervention on every hit. Even the SGTools page for the checks calls this out, saying to do manual checks on hits before throwing someone on the bus out of town.

But like SGTools, games which throw false positives could be whitelisted from the system. That would solve the issue.

Some games would trigger the ban by accident, wouldn't they? For example, Arma 2 doesn't get reported as activated on the account.

Checking those would still mean less work for support than as it is now.

Hence why I mentioned that it would notify support rather than auto-banning. Also, game such as these could be whitelisted from the system, like on SGTools when you verify activated wins.

Damn my reading skills! Yeap, that could work. I don't think implementing something like this could be that difficult, so I don't see any other reason for this not to be done. I agree 100% :)

So we are catching only casual rule breakers today?

We already have casual gifters and casual collectors, may as well have casual rule breakers too.

Why would anyone risk a permaban over a DLC or a Polarity key? That's how low they sink

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I guess they derped hard, it was the drums and dunnowhat DLC for EU4 (?) that had a pricing error in RU a long time ago, and I guess the guy entered for all of them, and didn't bother telling the creators that he already won it :D

Of course, you can go to their Steam profile and check every win manually.

That's an impressive list, it seems that the longer the rules breaker go unnoticed the more confident they get. I always check my winners, it's so easy with SGtool. If everybody check their winners it would makes things so much easier. Great job sigma for the catch:)

He was fairly sneaky, always marked wins as received and never drew any attention to himself.

I can't take the credit for it, though, others have reported him as well, mine was just closed faster as it was a re-roll request.
