"This came out of nowhere. I was always under the impression that you had to be in the top 100 for Valve to even consider you, but Sneaky Ninja was sitting at 74% of the way to the top 100, which is still pretty far away. I guess Valve saw it, liked it, and approved it anyway! Not that I'll complain or anything. ;) Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Valve!

So now I've been approved for both Steam and Wii U. Now all that's left to do is... uhh, make the game. :P Thanks to anyone who's voted."

And he didn't even need to try a Greenlight bundle, so I'm happy for him.

Sneaky Ninja is still incomplete at this time, but is decent fun. Since Sully is a friend of mine (even gifting me games in the past), I thought I'd mention this and give him a chance to earn millions on Steam. :P

I did some testing myself, and while it needs more work IMO, it was an interesting game. I'll be chatting with him to see if I can get permission to let you guys try out the test version I had access to. - Edit - No luck here, he feels the test version is just too out of date to unleash on people.

It seems unlike most people here I'm not really a fan of the art-style, I mean, the art is nice and all, but I don't really like the way everything is shaded, the gradients look sort of dull to me and I think the game would've benefited from a more light hearted colour scheme.

I mean, the game looks sort of silly in a good way with the bouncy animations and playful gameplay like throwing samurais into spikes and all which is why a moody, dark look looks odd to me. But I guess it's too late to change it now and I seem to be the odd one out here, so yeah, just my opinion.

The gameplay looks quite interesting though and the animations are smooth and I like all the little reactive visual details, so I voted yes. Good luck with the game! :)

Fair enough, I get your point. Part of the reason is just that this level is dark, being deep in a forest at sunset/sunrise and all. Other environments will be brighter, especially during the day. But yeah, it still won't be as cartoony looking as its bouncy characters would make you expect.

But eh, I like it. :P Thanks!

Now that you mention it I had a character for a game idea I toyed around with that looks suspiciously like Dizzy... What can I say, it's easier to draw eggs!

And thank you. :D

Too Many Gradients: The Game

protip not everything needs gradients unless it's a 3d object, flat objects don't need shading like that.

Still looks good though.

Expected a crappy game.

The video looks actually pretty nice. The art is basic but that's a given with a low budget game like this... At least it seems to have some style to it. The gameplay looks pretty fluid and dynamic... How fun the game is will depend on whether or not it has good level design. Also it's always more fun to play these little games when they have a fun OST to go with them.

I'm concerned that given the look of your character and enemies it will have a lack of feedback, as in, you can't tell in which state they are... and you have a harder time giving them a feel of them being alive and smart. This is kinda hard to explain for me so I don't know if I'm making myself clear... But, like, there's only so much you can do with a blob, even if it's cute.

Also I wonder what the price and duration of the game would be, as these small platforming games are my kind of thing and I would maybe buy this given the chance.

Of course, there's the whole controls not being ass thing but sometimes that's a matter of opinion. I might like everything about it when I buy it but then after 10 minutes I can't take it anymore and close it just because of the controls. A game which has fun controls in which you can be entertained just by yourself jumping around and using abilities is pure gold, Cloudbuilt is the last game I got that made me feel like that. A demo is a nice thing to have in these situations.

About the price and duration, I have different plans for how much content I'll be able to make that I haven't yet decided between, and the price/duration are dependent on that decision. It's too early to make any estimates on duration, but the minimum price would probably be $3-5 if I go with the smaller scope, and the maximum definitely no more than $7-10 for the bigger scope. Nothing's set in stone yet.

I don't generally like platformers, but I think those who do would like his game so I upvoted it.

Sorry, can't go against what I'm seeing: a Mark of the Ninja clone (almost exactly the same mechanics) with different sprites and more open (easier). The question I have to ask is, why should I play this instead of Mark of the Ninja?

I tried my best not to sound harsh, sorry =( I really want you guys to succeed, but you have to try harder and make your game stand out. It might sound impossible, but with enough thought, design and iterations, I'm sure you can make a better game than Mark of the Ninja. If it's your first, then it's a great start.

Well, it has its own advantages. I like the idea of user levels, which this currently has support for.

It is our first game, yes. But the focus of the game is different than Mark of the Ninja -- MotN is much more focused on pure stealth and although I love it for that, it honestly doesn't satisfy me as a platformer. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it's a difference between us and them. That's why I say Sneaky Ninja has more Mario influence, because platforming has a much bigger presence in the game. If I took out stealth from Sneaky Ninja completely, it could still be a perfectly functional and entertaining platformer like Mario -- and indeed, there are several sections in the trailer that are pure platforming with no enemies, and they're some of my favorite parts to play. If you take the stealth out from Mark of the Ninja? Doesn't work quite as well.

Does that make sense? It's not the biggest difference in the world but it's significant enough that calling it a clone isn't really reasonable. Hopefully this should become clearer as more of the game is developed and shown.

It makes sense, yeah, but then again; if you compete only in platformers field, again, there are many, many, many games like that. I would prefer a harder and barely functional stealth game than just another platformer. Maybe if you add enough ingredients and innovation to the stealth part, then the game really will shine on it's own.

We're certainly trying to avoid being just another platformer, that's for sure. :P I think the middleground between pure platformer and pure stealth is pretty uncommon as it is, actually, but yes we'll try to innovate as much as we can with the stealth aspect. We've got big plans for that in the coming months!

I can see what you mean by looking incomplete, it does look nice. The "incomplete" parts stand out for me, but if they worked it out. The game looks like it'd flow smoothly.
