So now I have to switch over every few hours to Steamtrades to see if someone left a trade offer or replied to one of my offers. Not convenient at all...

Also, the links in your messages from the steamgifts.com domain no longer link to the post in your trade listing (they just link to that trade page), so if you have old posts in there before the update you now have to manually find them within the list of comments for that particular trade.

steamtrades and steamgifts are completely split, they will probably even remove the "Trades" button in the header from this site later after current active users get used to that.

the databases are no longer one and the same, therefore it can't and won't be notifying you over here on steamgifts.com for steamtrades.com related replies.

i wonder how many scripts will be written in the next couple weeks that do stuff like this though.. lol

There's a good chance the button will stay as it was there in the past when the two sites were separate.

the generic header ones i agree, it could go either way really.. either they remove it here, or add it to steamtrades.. but i'm sure one way or the other in the end they will be closely matched visually.

This is a very poor design choice (though I have seen the reasoning behind it). Updates should not remove features from the site, especially features that users heavily rely upon.

It should not be that difficult to instate cross-site notification for messages received. Hopefully it will get added back soon. Perhaps if enough people complain they can find a workaround that fixes the impersonator issue and allows cross-site messaging.

tell that to google. they are constantly removing features in updates. at least it's not like google wallet for instance. ;)

like i said below Pilda's comment, i'm sure there will be a script made eventually to do this for those that must have it. but i doubt it will make a difference on how many complain, it was their intent to split the database to begin with. i could very well be proven wrong though.

You forgot about Apple.

And just because google and apple also make stupid decisions doesn't mean it is acceptable. ;-)

Steamgifts and steamtrades are two separated sites now. They didn't separate the sites just because of the new design or URL.

It's the same like with all the other sites - different site - different message system. You also have to switch from SG to, for example, Facebook if you want to check if someone wrote you.

i couldn't care less about facebook ;-)

There are good reasons to have both sites integrated, they aim at the same thing: make good use of spare steam keys.
And of course, cross-site notifications are technically possible, even if the sites are now separated.

there is also good reasons not to have them integrated, as stated by a mod here. don't get me wrong, i was in the same thought concept as you till that explanation. yes cross-notifications are possible though technically, but they want it un-linked and not associated with one another it seems.

i'm sure there will probably eventually be a script written to pull the notification tray from ST site every "x" seconds to notify you when you have a message, but i doubt no matter how many people request it, that they will ever re-add that as a feature.

I don't think this is a valid excuse for the separation, though I do realize it is a problem. Everyone has a unique steam identifier. I'd imagine that could be used to better identify accounts and prevent or mitigate impersonators.

i contemplated arguing that exact instance, technically that info could be used to identify you're trading with the correct person.. but it's not worth the fight imo. but my opinion doesn't count for much since i'm an inactive trader. ^^

Also you cannot search specific words through your old messages on SteamTrades now, which I used to love while all messages were together.

that's like saying i don't get notifications from steam on steamgifts.

both sites are independent now, they don't interact at all between each other.

so what... I can set my mail account to fetch mails from additional accounts. I can link various web services etc.

Again I don't mind about separate sites. But it's just another site I have to visit to see if I got a message, while the purpose (doing something useful with steam keys I already have the relevant games) remains the same.

Agreed, I'd like my Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Steamtrades, and email notifications all sent to my SG notifications.
Then I never have to visit any other sites again.

;-) yes more or less this. I would be happy enough if this was steam-centric, but if you have a life outside of Steam, fine for me.

wait.. while at it can i add-in "steam community friends chat" so i don't even need to worry about having steam client running for friends to notify me?

Your life must be really precious that you can't waste 5 seconds of it going to ST to see if you got new messages.

indeed. or maybe I'm just lazy, change-resistant and bored.

I think that's the point. SteamGifts 2.0 is supposed to be completely separate from SteamTrades 2.0 with it's own systems, threads, support etc. I'm sure someone will come up with a UserScript™ for it soon but I don't think it's a bug and I doubt it will be considered as a suggestion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
