I feel like they are asking me to pay money to help them test their game? Maybe I am just taking this the wrong way, console me steam gifts.

That actually seems exactly what they're asking, but that sort of thing does need testing.

Yeah, new systems for getting the game industry funded need to be explored. I think the standard box price is basically gone for PC, and is being supported further with DLC on console and PC, but there are a lot of other methods out there that can, and should be tried.

Free to play has been tried in a lot of ways, and some have worked, some haven't, but I think if you look at stuff like the indie bundles, gamefly, and even the kickstarter stuff, there are bound to be better and more interesting ways to get players paying for the continued development of games by the industry. I like the idea of turning players and gamers into investors, and I think long-term subscription models are going to become fairly popular, the question will be how much bundling can be done on that front? Sony has had the one subscription fee and you get access to all of their online games, but not many other companies have tried that. I don't think many gamers would like to have to have active subscriptions to all companies, so it wouldn't work for everybody, and it could edge out a lot of indie development unless (again) they became bundled.

I'm excited for the next few years of gaming from an economic perspective, it should be pretty interesting. Who knows - it could be that very little changes.

I pray to god that more games do NOT become pay to win or subscription based games. Well then idk, if they did at least I wouldnt have to even consider buying consoles or gaming upgrades for my pc. Would certainly save loads of money that way because I would stop buying games.

Eh... I'd probably ignore it myself, but if you participated in their closed beta recently then it's probably real. You should probably check up on Ubisoft's Ghost Recon forums instead of us and check if it's legit.

It is real, and I wasn't asking if it was legit.

Well if you want to participate in the beta then by all means do it... they said they'd refund you so it isn't a problem. It looks to me like it's all fine then (that is if you want to do it).

But they are offering to give you back 20%, so if you are actually considering the ghost coins system then its worth it right

How is it risk free?
If you find the GC sucks, you're assured a refund in the form of GC... That, assuming you will buy the game when it launches...
Ubisoft is really trying to outdo EA...

Its actually going to be a free to play game with cash shop items. But I agree

Yep, didn't know it would be f2p... still... they're trying to cash in right from the beta... and the risk/refund thinking line stands

If you actually enjoyed the game and you planned on buying credits anyway, you may as well do it. If only to help them test. You participated in the other portions of the beta, may as well if you plan on buying credits eventually anyway when it officially releases you'll get some extra to spend.

They want to test the purchasing system, this makes sense. It isn't a money grab, they need "real" people to do transactions to ensure the system is working right. As an incentive, they refund and hook you up with bonus points. It's totally reasonable, just poorly laid out in that email. I'd explain it a lot better and offer a better incentive, say %50 bonus and a refund.

I'd jump on it.

Seems like a sneaky cash grab to me.
They could do it like GW2 does and give you free coins for the beta and not actually charge your creditcard (just put a $1 hold on it).
