What is the best game of all time?

The Half Life saga are for me the best games ever.

The best game of all time is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

It's an hard question, since no one have played the vast majority of videogames at the right time (i.e. when the game comes out)... so it's pretty difficult to find one game above all.

In my case, thinking in the most objective way, the game that have the high personal score is Portal 2, although is not my favorite game.

Dear God, so many choices... I've played and loved so many games that I literally cannot think of them all. I'm trying to, but I just can't. That's how many good games there are, and those are just ones I've played. And I've played not even 1,000 games in my life.

Obviously, it depends on what criteria you use to define "best"... I am "old", so I say System Shock, but a strong argument can be made for Ocarina of Time.

There isn't a best game ever but here is what i think is the best>> old games: Doom1&2, Blood, Wolfenstein 3D, Diablo 1&2, Star craft, Descent, Mortal Kombat, WWE, GTA2 and Half Life 1 those are the ones i still remember, new games: Assassin's Creed 2, Dishonored, World of Warcraft(Dot-A), Metro 2033, Total War:Medieval 2, all GTAIII games and Portal 1&2. That's all what I can remember right now :D

There are way too many really great games out there to choose one as the best game of all time. Heck, I don't even have just one most favorite game.

One really fantastic game, though, is (or, was...) Tanarus.
There was never anything else like it, and it kicked ass. It really was one of the best games of all time. Force Wars and Phoenix Wars were my all time favorite game types to play.

I hate SOE for killing that, and Infantry.
I really, really miss the game..

Can't pick a best game of all time. So my favourites in categories are:

Traditional Puzzle: Minesweeper
Puzzle: Portal 1 / 2 and Fortix
Racing: Dirt 3
Free-roam / Sandbox: Just Cause 2
RTS: Errrrm... Age of Empires 2 (and 1 / Rise of Rome) and Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 and Company of Heroes.
TBS: At the moment Civ V, but only because I am better at V than I am at IV so enjoy it more
FPS: TF2
Indie: Don't Starve and Limbo
RPG: can't decide

GoldenEye for Nintendo 64 (ohh, that multiplayer :D)

Syphon Filter series, Final Fantasy VII/VIII, Tekken 3, Gran Turismo 1/2, Crash Bandicoot series, GTA 1, all on PS1.

And on PC, Theme Hospital, X-COM: Ufo Defense (Ufo: Enemy Unknown) and Half-Life 1.

The question is irrelevant, there is no "best game of all time".
