I'm going to watch some B-movies in the near future due to the fact that we're going to play shows in this convention. Feel free to recommend me all the classics I should watch!

My list so far:
The Room
Samurai Cop
Braindead
Rubber

What is B-movies?

A B-movie is a lower budget, often lower-quality movie. The name originates from when movies were shown as double-features, where you would have one good movie and one not-so-good movie. They used to show movies as double-features to get people to pay more to see a pair of movies than to just see one, but the second movie was rarely as good as the headliner, like an opening act for a band, or the 'b-side' on a vinyl record.

Now, theaters don't often do double-features, but 'B-movies' are often made to be sold as "direct to video" - they skip the theater entirely to be sold to streaming services, satellite/cable TV channels like SyFy, or disc vending services like Redbox.

Oh i had watched a lot of movie like that. Mostly on tv in late hours and i guess Asian movies. Not sure i will remember the names though. :D Thanks for explaining. o/

But also many second features made back in the studio days were actually very good and some would eventually come to be regarded as classics. Lower budgets meant studio bosses were not as vigilant which provided film makers an opportunity to get a little creative. Some, if not most of the best film noirs got made this way.

Battlefield Earth. It's not as bad as The Room, but it's hilariously bad. :)

With a budget of 70 million that one is not a B-movie - it's just bad. ;)

I've always thought of "B Movie" as "Bad movie" (but bad in some endearing way). But you're right that the term originally referred to low budget movies, but specifically those that were the second in a double-feature showing (like the B-side song of a record single). Most of the movies listed so far were made after double feature showings stopped being a thing, so maybe none of them are B movies. ;)

Recent noteworthy movies are Wolf Cop and Zombeavers. Both know exactly what they are and don't try to be better than that, which makes them great to watch. If you're looking for classic trash, The Stuff and Stridulum (aka the Visitor) are both good times.

Critters!

I don't recall which one of the series, but the one that takes place or starts in a fair/carnival is my favorite.

I believe the carnival one you are talking about is Ghoulies.
I love the Critters movies. I NEED to see the new one, Critters Attack.

I like B movies. Here's a few that haven't been mentioned yet:

Mandy (slow at first but has an all time great Nic Cage performance)
Kung Fury
Army of Darkness
Dog Soldiers
Starship Troopers

Hope you enjoy :)

Ranker has a pretty good list for you.

I'd recommend anything among the first 20 or so. (Well maybe not Killer Clowns - that just wasn't for me.) And there are some good ones further down that list as well - Ginger Snaps is one of the best teenage girl/werewolf movies you'll ever see :D

Just the first 20? Go through the entire list if you can. Lots of wonderful and strange things await you.

I've always thought of Reign of Fire as a B-movie. It's enjoyably dumb.

Oh man! Machete is the epitome of a B movie! And so unapologetic too! Great cast to boot. I cant wait for Machete in Space but it's been taking way too long.

Upgrade - the B movie that convinces you it is minimum an A movie. It's genuinely great.
Also Planet Terror
Stung
Howl and Late Phases (the link is good, they just renamed it later :\ ) are pretty great. Not the trashy-but-fun type of B movies, rather good indie-kind of movies IMO. Though these are likely a bit off

Maybe Troma Entertainment they have a lot of good ones such as Class of Nukem High, Toxic Avenger, Mother's Day and some others like Killer Condom. I like B movies occasionally so some others are Re-Animator, The Stuff (saw it mentioned once before already on here), Night of the Creeps. May add more if I think about it...
