SOE announced today that Sony sold the company to a investor management firm and will now be called Daybreak Game Company. They will now be an independent game company who will work on multi-platform games. In the post above, they even went as far to say they will be working on Xbox games in the future, which means that perhaps the Xbox One could be getting ports of both Planetside 2 and maybe H1Z1. They claim their current games will not suffer from this and that they actually have big plans on their current IPs.

I guess only time will tell on all this. I do look forward to seeing what becomes of this game company though.

I don't think that really bodes well for those games, and I wouldn't expect an XBox One version of PS2 anytime soon.

If anything, I bet DC Universe Online makes it over to the Xbox One before anything else (if anything else).

I really hope that they will continue with just port games intended for PC over to consoles and it don't turn around to be porting console games to PC. Or just take their time and don't screw things.

I'm interested what will happen to that mysterious project of them dedicated to the old Star Wars Galaxies fans after this transfer.

I wonder if the games will turn into a (more crappy) P2W model.

That is what a lot of people have been wondering as well, what this will mean to their existing games. The devs claim it'll be, "business as usual", but that doesn't really mean a whole lot. I would hope this management firm doesn't turn around and have them start making all their MMOs P2W games, specially after all the hell they went through with the launch of H1Z1.

One would think that they have learned what will happen from the launch of H1Z1. We will have to wait and see i guess. It's only a matter of time.

SOE has been a joke of a company for a while now, they rode the coattails of their success with EQ1 for as long as they could, and have only put out mediorce to just plain awful products basically ever since. Pretty telling of how awful your game selection is, when 90% of your IPS are shit you bought pennies on the dollar from dying companies then run on life support to make your "Station pass" look like its not complete garbage. Seriously doubt this will change anything unless they are gutting the company with the buyout? Is Smedley still running the show after this? That guy is scum incarnate and I'd probably never support another SOE project while he's still in charge.

Yes, he's in charge of the new company. I doubt they'll gut the company, but considering it was purchased by an investment firm with no ties to video games, I bet they'll just flip everything to maximum P2W and try to drain the customers as quickly as possible.

SWG was pretty decent, until they decided to "fix" everything with it and made it a bloody mess of a game. DCU I always enjoyed, not the best MMO out there but far from being a bad one. I have personally never played Planetside 2, but always heard good things from friends who have played it. I do agree though, EQ1 has been their biggest success to date and one wonders if they can ever top it.

As of right now, no word on if anyone is leaving because of this buyout or if this management firm will "trim the fat" so to speak with some downsizing. I do know the post was not from Smedley though, so there is that, though that doesn't say much of the matter at hand.

Good, now there's a chance that Everquest Next will not be pay2win.

Several gaming sites are saying that SoE/Daybreak just got hit with layoffs, not sure if it was massive or not but director of development fired which makes me think it is.
Doesn't seem like a good sign.

From what I've heard, several members from the H1Z1 team were let go and a lot of the Everquest guys were let go, including the original creator of the Everquest franchise.

Hopefully it does not affect the PS4 release of these games. That is all I am concerned about.
