For me my first contact with Steam was when I bought the physical copy of Half-Life 2 in 2009 (it was quite cheap, so I could not resist). At the beginning I di not have many games, mainly Valve titles plus Stargate Resistance (shut down at the end of 2010, I think). But later on Steam sales and bundles helped to increase my library. Funnily enough, I don't remember exactly how I got to know about SG, but it was during my university years.

Thanks for the giveaways!
I played Counter-Strike back then and Steam became mandatory to do so. On the day of Steam's release, I was on holiday and my little sister created the account to play some CS. That's why my account name is still my sister's email. :D

Congrats on your first train!
Amusingly enough, my friend also convinced me to get Left 4 Dead 2 so we could play together. We played together once, he decided he didn't want to play L4D with me anymore (apparently I wasn't good enough), and we never played it again. I was pretty irritated for a while for wasting all that money.
I got Steam because it was required to play Half Life 2, back in 2004 or so. I started playing Half Life 2, and then a friend gave me a WoW beta key as a thanks for helping him with his computer, so I tried out WoW, got hooked, and started playing WoW with my friends when it came out. For the next 4 years, WoW was all that I played. Finally got burned out after 3+ years of being a guild leader in a raiding guild, retired from WoW, and came back to playing other PC games.

Team Fortress 2 went free2play in 2011 and I was curious to try it. Next thing I know it's my most played game ever in terms of hours and the game to get me into MP games in general. I started buying games on Steam in 2012,but I only really started seriously getting into growing a collection and the bundle scene in 2014,maybe 2013even.

Well, I used to play my brother's games, so I decided to have some games to call my own. I bought Aliens vs Predator (2010) and started playing a lot of it in multiplayer. Then came along Modern Warfare 2, and my fate was sealed, Steam was meant to stay in my life.

Now that I have your attention: (bad joke, I know)
I make my very first train here, hope that I didnt make anything wrong
so, I joined Steam on Dic/20/2013
something like an anecdote:
I remember that Steam was giving for free Left 4 Dead 2 on Dic/2013 and a friend of mine say to me to create an account and get the game to play, sadly we never play together, Im still around here, and that particular friend never connect to steam again, we still see each other, time to time in the real life.
so, along the years I meet new friends on steam and lost a few too, I see a lot of pages of giveaways/ or related info about steam to open, and to close too, I remember when at the very beggining I have just a few games and a lot of free time, and now, I dont have time to play them, but my backlog is getting bigger
So; whats its the particular way you meet steam, or SG, or any anecdote you want to share
Sorry for my basic english.
