This topic has always been interesting to me.
PC or Mac?
PC-Cheap. More games. More chances of getting a virus (Dominates computer sales. More people -> more prominent attack)
Mac-Overpriced. Not as many games. Less chances of getting a virus (Only dominates a small percentage of computer sales.

I find Mac kind of good looking but not that great support for it. PC is still the more practical choice for me.

This is the kind of thread that shouldn't be created.

And anyway the answer is Linux. ;)

There is always gonna be the PC fanboys, and the Mac fanboys. Deal with it, and respect eachother's opinion instead of saying some shitty comment about things that make mac/pc better than said mac/pc.

What kind of question is this?

Well if you arent kidding, PC.

Its cheaper and more versatile in every way.

Only reason i see to get mac is for Mac exclusive software like final cut pro and other editing software.

Depends on the use.

I happen to work on Mac Pro in Graphics Design and Photography industry and there's no comparison with the PC. OS X, is so much more powerful and reliable even on the same specs as Windows machine is, that I never could work on PC anymore.

On the other hand PC is way beyond Mac OS X in terms of calculations based work, and thus for programs needing calculations and for gaming there is no comparison as Winows will always be better.

Mac/OS X = reliable, smooth work for artists

PC/Win = powerful gaming, calculations work platform

If you put form before function, buy a mac.
If you're really desperate to drop a load of cash on a brand name, buy an Alienware. They're overpriced as hell, but the hardware is usually up-to-date, and the alienware logo is even bigger than the apple one.

Actually, i just looked at the apple store. I can't believe they charge as much as they do, for such old hardware. Looks like they're charging full retail + about 30%. crazy!

Alienware is a PC, Mac is a PC, Mac OS is a OS, Windows is a OS, Linux is a OS.
For people who still don't know: Mac is a PC with another title/logo.

Most gamers don't use Mac though. How do you explain that if Mac is a PC?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Laptop is a PC, notebook is a PC, netbook is a PC. They're still called Laptops Notebooks and Netbooks, though.

Mac vs. PC is just a title. a nickname of sorts. With the title "Which is better, Mac or Windows?" the thread would be pretty misleading. Especially when you consider that Mac OS (or variant of) can be run on a 'regular' pc.

I believe Apple even do the same with their adverts. Never seen an advert saying "buy an apple pc" or "buy a PC running Macintosh OS" Its "buy a mac".

Smart arse.

PC stands for Personal Computer. And that's why Mac's isn't called a PC (Althought it really is a PC). They would advertise for every other brand producing PC's. Also Apple overwatch and control people when they have an Apple Product. And that's why I think Mac is not worthy to be called an PC, but rather an Computer.

Don't take me mistaken, i claim as above: Every computer which run an OS, is an PC.

PC because this is a gaming thread and I want to play the maximum number of games.

Also, PC became the name of IBM computers after they had major success with their computers and Microsoft got tied in with IBM and... well you have Google, it's too much to explain in this thread.

to choose between mac and pc, PLEASE make the correct value equation. do not just compare ram, hd, cpu specs.

put it all into the equation: the materials (case, screen, keyboard), the support, and above all your time.

if you do that, and you actually give your time a price, the winner is easily the mac, alone or with windows on it for the games if you want them (but then shame on you anyway;).

if you do that and you are on the cheap and with loads of spare time, than the winner is the windows/linux/hackintosh pc.

i have many macs and pcs (and have owned/used many computers that are neither macs nor pcs). i don't enjoy the pcs at all, i'm just compelled to use them by my company.

You can replace the case, screen (you can use a Mac screen on a PC even) and keyboard, those aren't reflections of PCs since most people (that game) build their own.

i just mean, for example, if you want to buy a laptop, just understand that a black plastic case is cheaper than a unibody aluminium case and the second is really more robust than the first and will last longer.

i agree of course that somebody that only wants gaming should look to consoles or gaming-built pcs.

macs are still better suited to people that want to express themselves and don't want to lose time in other things.

Wait wait wait... Installing OSX + bootcamp + Windows is more time-efficient than just installing Windows?

My view is that if you have to install a second operating system alongside your current one, then your current operating system isn't cutting the mustard.

installing OSX + bootcamp + Windows is more efficient than having a pc for games and a mac for all the rest IMHO

windows... --> games on steam over 4000 (I think)
games on mac on steam --> 359
steam : RTW gold edition --> $10
gamersgate the mac edition of rtw --> $20

and you can still upgrade your windows computer
other hardware like GPU and processors
i don't know if it's the same for mac
but eh what looks nicer these things http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/attachments/general-hardware-discussion/22339d1211446175-acer-aspire-predator-gaming-pc-acerpredatorlarge.jpg

and the alienware computers

or your light mac that seriously overpriced?
good luck with buying a new computer

why do people make these posts... its stupid when you think about it seriously... its up to the person's preference, not which is supposed "better". i use both as they both have their individual benefits and its up to YOUR OWN perspective as to what is "better"
(and i am using the term "better" very loosely) so it is a pointless question rendered mute by the fanboys of either side who obviously are going to trash the other... Mac is hands down better for editing software (as all MS based editing software which is half-decent has been ported to a mac version as well as their own specific programs) and PC is better for gaming/everyday normal person's browsing and use (while some will argue that mac is just as good, but when you think about a newcomer to a computer which has access to both, which would they find easier... PC as more people know how to use it so more can teach them)

Edit: for those wondering some of the ported it would be adobe photoshop, illustrator, etc...

"(while some will argue that mac is just as good, but when you think about a newcomer to a computer which has access to both, which would they find easier... PC as more people know how to use it so more can teach them)" What?
Do you really think that "Windows" pc is easier to use than MAC? MAC was created (as all apple production) to be as much as it can fool-proof (as easy as it can get, it's the key thing for people that ar not really in to computers).

Why do people make these posts, you ask? Same reason they make threads about TF3, Valve's gaming hardware and similar. It's called being an attention whore, and all that for a bigger goal of getting members for your site/group.
