This topic has always been interesting to me.
PC or Mac?
PC-Cheap. More games. More chances of getting a virus (Dominates computer sales. More people -> more prominent attack)
Mac-Overpriced. Not as many games. Less chances of getting a virus (Only dominates a small percentage of computer sales.

Pc, Everything a mac can do PC can do, but a mac is allot less customizable hardware side with allot of restrictions.

Most software that is on MAC that is used for video editing or photo ETC is on PC as-well, so you cannot say "Oh.. mac is pro for video editing, so we are l33t", Or there are hundreds of choices from other companies for video editing software. Mac has less features on the operating system as-well atm.

Oh and those less virus Arguments, Yes its true but not by allot any more, you are still very much at risk on MAC, recently a few thousand got infected by one virus that took out their systems.

PC and MAC are the same, Both have some features the other doesn't. They both do the same things, Have the same software, Have the same flaws. The only thing is Apple can get away with charging a shit load for something you can build on PC for 1/3rd the cost because they restrict hardware to "Apple certified" things only.

TL,DR: PC is best due to price, Both PC and mac are just the same as each other.

IMHO for me mac is quite technical in term of os,while pc/windows is more user friendly since most of the world use it expect select few, most of the mac user i know use it for specific purpose such as desktop publishing while pc remain a general use for administration (e.g -office works).most old people in my country are not quite used to mac since its quite expensive here rather than a pc.

Your only good thing about Max is "less viruses", and it's because this platform sucks and nobody will even try to create a virus to damage it.

So, PC it is.

PC>MAC in almost all things, from price, quality of hardware to the choice of programs that PC can use.

I think however the reason that makes MAC popular is the ease of use. Most people that i know that use MAC say MAC is superior because they can do that , then i show them that you can do it in windows and thier answer is almost the same "that is too dificult!". From personal experience casual people that dont care much about their computer prefer MAC,the rest uses PC.

In an objective way PC is (almost) always superior to MAC , however some people just dont need to have that sweet GPU or that ability to have those beta drivers for nvidia or perhaps just prefer MAC UI. whatever the reason, each person will choose the platform that will satisfy them.

Objectively in my opinion I would say linux even though it, I can't use the reason I say this is it's shit hot customizable
and from what I have heard boots and runs really fast.

Windows will always be my choice though as it is easy to use fast and most programs exist for it. Its also very reliable
(vista never happened ssssh)

Excuse me if I flame slightly. In my opinion I think that mac (os and hardware include as so often is the case) is
insanely overpriced for what you get what I think is an ugly and slightly un-user friendly gui. As far as I know the mac
books are welded closed you cannot repair without sending off. From a business mans point of view
obviously mac is fantastic maybe $300-400 worth of hardware for $1500 I think and that you possibly
have to send them away for repair rather than home repair.
When it comes to compatibility windows wins out almost all the time (without boot camp obviously)
I did think macs would have been better for media production but people here helped clear that up.
In the end when I think mac I think Hipsters in starbucks showing of the expensive branded calculator.
And when I think pc (windows) I think pc master race.
But that's just me and I'm quite biased =]

I wouldn't mind having both. Custom-built PC for some hardcore gaming and Mac for literally everything else.
In short, Mac is quality, OS-to-hardware optimization, design. PC is price, games and customization. Linux is LEGO for programmers.

its just whatever you like the most. if you dont like mac, no one can ever convince you to like it. its all opinions so there is no point to arguing about it anymore.

i guess it comes down to whether or not you want a machine (pc) or a pretty and overpriced 'gadget' (apple).

apples are easy to use, but ultimately very restrictive. they're basically like consoles - designed for the masses and require zero knowledge to use well, but the pc gives you many more options and thus can require (comparatively) more knowledge to operate well, though you'll get much more out of it in the end. you can also fail a lot harder with a pc if you screw up, than you can with an apple product (which you frankly cant make a mistake on, because theyre designed to be idiot-proof because of their target market).

PC: Mac
Intel: AMD
Nvidia: ATI

You pay for a brand.

Mac is intended for people who only cares about design and sheeps who belives in every rumour about Mac, like it's virus-free... (actually Apple stated one day that you should have anti-virus installed on your Mac, but it got too much attention so they removed it stated that mac comes delivered with buildt in anti-virus)

2nd Mac might be okay for people who uses PhotoShop, and video programs, they pay for a PC that they need. Other people who buy Mac usually is meatheads when coming to PC and technology.

Mac viruses are getting more popular by the way.

But anyway, a Mac is only useful if you're a designer. I remember using Powerpoint on a friend's mac, and it came with a lot more backgrounds and templates. Then again, is it worth the extra money?

There's many problems with an Apple computer, and I can't lie about that for the sake of neutrality. One of their own engineers (and a high-ranked one at that - he was there since the beginning of Apple) said the the Dock (task bar for us Windows folks) is based on 1987 technology, when computers could handle only one task per second. Modern computers can process several billions of tasks each second. The Dock also has very few icons to choose from, and a .txt will have the same thumbnail as a .doc - good luck telling your reminder from your exhaustive report on wild carrots.

But a Mac is easier to use and to configure, I've heard.

One thing I can't agree on though is "meh, just let people do what they want". If you're not educated about what you buy, then you're more likely to make a wrong decision. There's a plethora of things all of us in this thread will agree are wrong, so why are they wrong while buying a Mac (or a PC, or installing Linux) is not? At some point I think we have to make a stand and let bad products sink so that we can get better goods for our own selves.

it's noteworthy that pc-to-mac switchers are more than original mac users, which are millions themselves.

calling millions switchers idiot is just plain superficial...

many people find macs perfectly fit for their needs and are ok to pay their price, and this number is somehow growing.

Mac is for those who think it makes them look geeky. There's some prestige associated with Apple stuff, but that was all a result of Steve Jobs' huge ego and the elitist approach the company took. The reality is nothing Apple made is really worth the very high price of their products, this applies to Macs too. And they don't break any less than PC-s.

When a Mac breaks, you buy a new one. (Or send it to the shop and get a new one with the files copied over)
When a PC breaks, you restart. If it still doesn't work, there's always that one geeky teenager in your neighborhood who'll surely fix it.

We have 4 computers in my house. PCs for my husband and I for gaming. MacBook for travel because it's small and doesn't get very hot playing on your lap. And then we have the Mac desktop which our 4 year old uses to play Minecraft, Angry Birds, and watch YouTube. They all serve their purposes but I would never buy a Mac for myself since all I do is game.

Every Mac today is infected with a Java virus that lets someone do whatever they want with it.

The Mac vs PC battle is more of a philosophical problem: Nothing versus everything.
Life is easier when you have nothing. If you have everything (or something, at all), you need to have responsibility for it.

It's really a matter of opinion here.
Most people who have a Mac also have a PC. And most people who have both a Mac and a PC use the PC as their main computer.
The Mac is usually the dumb metal box they carry around for technological emergencies.

One other reason people buy Mac is the price. They show off that they can buy expensive stuff.
They spend the rest of their money on computer courses.

Also, you can't simply "get a virus" if you use the latest OS (stably: Windows 7, in development: Windows 8) with all the updates.
The rule is simple: Don't run applications you don't trust with administrator privileges.

Macs are PCs... PC = Personal computer. I think what you are wanting to ask is "Which is better-Mac or Windows?"
As for the answer, pretty much depends on what you want to do with it. Since you are on Steamgifts you probably play video games. You want windows, most games are made for windows. Someone mentioned Wine for linux earlier, and while that is an option I've heard that not all games are compatible with it. Not sure if there is an equivalent for Mac.
