How big of a deal is the upcomming "thief"?

Is it something worth getting?
Is this some major shit?

The videos of it look good, but will it be as good as it looks like?

Chances are it wont be anything like the old ones, be filled with quick time events and point less "super vision" to see through everyone/everything.

About the quick time events, there were "few" of them in the past and they've removed them all I've heard.

Its gone through an incredibly long development cycle and they're still (only months from release) making major changes to gameplay/systems.
It wasn't until this last month that they took out all of the QTE sequences and they entirely removed their XP system.
Now it's being bundled in the Silver Reward Tier for AMD's Never Settle promotion. Which certainly doesn't bode well that they weren't confident enough to have this game stand on its own, or at the least to have put it in the Gold Tier.

I don't have high hopes for this game, which is a shame. I loved Thief, and I hope these devs know what they're doing...it certainly doesn't seem like it though. Though I suppose I can't complain too much if it ends up terrible, I did buy an AMD code so I got this and Sniper Elite v2 for less than $15

  • Click on this loot and Garrett’s light fingers will reach out and swipe it away, instantly transforming it into gold with a satisfying alchemical cha-ching
  • I experienced a guard brushing right past me, his arm clipping through half of Garrett’s face, who somehow didn’t notice I was crouching there
  • At its very lowest point, the game features free-running sequences in which control is taken off you in a sort of obligatory and half-hearted hat-tip Mirror’s Edge, and one-directional, third-person, Uncharted-lite climbing bits - which we can probably all agree is absolute rubbish
  • Having played the first four and a bit chapters, I’ve concluded that the game is never more enjoyable than when you’re ransacking buildings absolutely, pilfering from every closet and drawer with all the itch-scratching compulsion of bubble-wrap popping
  • The ability to swoop from shadow to shadow is sufficient to stealth past most guard patrols, and on the mid-range difficulty setting they're rather short-sighted, even as you stroll through broad torchlight
  • At this stage however Thief feels erratic, a stealth game that often forgets its business and lapses into mindless, action-based tomfoolery

tl;dr: it's crap, can't say i expected any other result after this

I had absolutely no expectations for "Thi4f", as I like to call it, but that's just so cringe-worthy. So awful.

Almost as bad as calling it Thi4f.

It's tingling a 2/5 on my hypeometer. It intrigues me enough to probably buy it in a few years for $3, but until then, I don't care.

And I'm a fan of the original games.

Guys at CdAction loved it. The key feature is that difficulty is VERY customizable, and if you want to play it hardcore, like old Thief games - the game allows it. They ended the article with "the amount of Thief in Thief might be surprisingly high". I wasn't looking for this game before, but now I'm hyped!

They wrote that the game starts weak and the beginning may throw away the oldschool fanbase, but the further it goes the better and more classic-style it gets. Playing Thief on standard difficulty is a "disgrace for the game and the player himself" and makes the game too easy and action-oriented.

No game is objectively a big or a small deal. Each to their own.

I love the thief franchise so I will probably pick it up at some point. Hopefully it isn't another hitman absolution.

whats wrong with hitman abs ?

small, comparing to older hitmans, not very open maps, more of a story telling game than open assassination game.

After Diablo 3 I will never preorder (until a game I badly want comes out, probably soon)again. No joke.. Don't do it.. It will have sales, been given away too much already during many graphic card sales and discounts.

so, Thief is out in the US and i'm getting kinda upset with reviews: 69 metascore and 4.5 user score? wtf is going on? is it really that dissappointing?
looks like it's another aliens:cm

no, definitely no aliens-cm-like garbage.

not everybody hates it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJS1yCSKlhs&list=UUy1Ms_5qBTawC-k7PVjHXKQ&feature=c4-overview

well, comparison with aliens-cm was probably not the best, but anyway it looks like an actual game is not what was advertised. Mainly what i'm concerned about are complaints about weak storyline, lack of freedom, dumb AI and some report not so great optimisation.
btw thanks for the link! game looks nice, but yet not clear if it's worth the money right now

well, i bought an amd gold coupon and sold the other 2 games for more than half my price, so i paid less than 5$ in the end. even if it turns out to be a mediocre game, i really can't complain too much. ;)
