Its an adventure game with a mix of some action - shooting. Dont buy it expecting it to be a GTA in mafia times. Most of the time you get to inspect crime scenes and interrogate suspects to get clues and solve the case, while interrogating theres some kind of minigame of reading the guy´s expresions to see if they are lying or telling the truth (or maybe they are clueless about the case).

The DLC are mostly new cases so if you can get the full pack it may be worth the extra bucks. I really loved this game mainly because Im a big fan of adventure and investigation (like Phoenix Wright but on a darker tone).

Yes, I would. I really liked investigating around and putting things together. If you do buy it, I'd suggest the version with all the extra missions: they are better than the average standard ones, which feel a bit repetitive. I'd say there's about 10 cases which I really liked. I liked the story, even if somehow "standard" for the noire genre.
The sandbox part is there just because it's fashionable, it doesn't really mean much in the game. You can do side missions, but they are a bit silly... you really do them to get some extra clue points to spend when you feel stuck, not because they are particularly funny. At least this was my experience.
Note: some .ini tweaking will probably be necessary.

Definitely, just don't walk in expecting anything different from an adventure game.

Also, every time you see the "Doubt" option, replace that with "Coax".

Playing the pc version with xbox 360 controller, runs smooth and great.
