Oh and it's free so why should you gain contributor value for something you got for free?

Maybe because you cannot give them away these days .. as most who want them have them and those with excess invites cannot find anyone to give them to lol.
DOTA 2 keys also seem to be like rabbits .. I was given two and used one but thanks to steam they multiply like rabbits and I now have 18 or so in my inventory :(
