If someone receives a gift link from Humble Bundle do they need to have an account there to obtain the key?
Couldn't see anything on Humble about it. Thanks.

yeah as other said they don't need to have an account, however if they wanted to "claim the page" for drm-download versions, they would have to have the account to link it too. otherwise the page is just left unclaimed.

Note, DRM-free versions are only claimable for Humble Store gift purchases not Humble Bundle gift links.

Some bundles also give DRM free stuff. Maybe it's from that? I'm pretty sure you can't get DRM free stuff from gift links (except maybe if you gift the entire bundle, but I have never done that so I'm not sure).

I remember people taking issue with the idea of people giving away the Steam keys while also using the DRM free versions (which apparently always stay with the gifter - at least for Bundle purchases) themself so it must have been like that for some time.

yeah, i remember people buying unclaimed pages for 1x tf2 key just to have drm download pages. even if the steamkeys were already used. and only talking about the $1 tier. guess it looks to of changed, or maybe it hasn't and just happens on some bundles anymore, idk.

Since as long as I can remember, DRM-copies don't get transferred with bundle gift links. It may have been that way in the very early days of Humble, but at some point, since at least 2 years ago, they changed it. You also don't have the ability to claim a gift link page anymore so that it shows up in your account, you have to keep the email you receive so you can reach that page again.

And once again, I'm only talking about bundles. With the store, I do believe that when you gift someone a game, they get the whole thing, key and download and anything else that goes along with it.

For single games, yes. However, if a bundle is purchased as a gift then the DRM-free downloads and extras should come along for the ride.

Yes, that's right. Same for store purchases.

My first Steamgifts win was a Humble Bundle link and I could activate it even though i never used the site before, so I can confirm you don't need a Humble Bundle account.
