not even that. more like X∞ it is a must buy. as pennover said the last great Bioware game. This is a pinnacle of what they used to be and is a msut buy. it can be played as an rpg or tactical either way it is fun. there is also a very small amount of mods available. my first playthrough lasted me 60 hours as a elf mage. Also the origin stories help so much with bringing you into the lore.

only 60 hours O_O?! you must not have completed all the quests/all the codexes/played on easy.
Cuz this was the best. game. ever. and almost the longest aswell, my god, +200 hours collecting codexes/questing on nightmare ;O

That being said, must buy.

50 / 55 hours on normal for a complete run (2nd time playing), one of the greatest games I played. I'd burn out with 200 hours of game though.

Considering that it's EA no, but the game itself is worth it. Make sure that it's the Ultimate Edition with the DLCs.

In my defense (or is the game's defense?), I did every single side quest and engaged in conversations with every NPC I could, including the very well done companion storylines. For me, it was rather surprising that I got so engaged in the story because I'm usually not one of those "lore-brats" in RPGs.

Yep, you NEED the ultimate edition. There are so few games where you can find a bargain like this. It makes me sad thinking how little content DA2 ended up with compared to this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, debatable. Only Awakening and Leliana's song are worth a damn.

Also, most of the item DLCs can actually be downloaded from the DA wiki and manually activated without issue.

You sure? Its not like EA to be so kind as let people get away with stuff like that ;-)
DA:O Ultimate is currently £5 on Steam though, its worth buying it.

I kind of liked DA2. Just because it's the first rpg ever(sort of) that doesn't sent you on a quest to save the world, everybody suddenly hate it. That's stupid.

The story was more than adequate, and most of the characters were interesting enough.

I agree the game had done many things right, but the main issues stem simply from Bioware/EA rushing the thing out of the door. Pacing is all over the place (ex. contrast the plodding first act to the "wait what it's already over?" third act). The endless waves in literally copy-pasted environments led to endless frustration and boredom. And while some characters were brilliant (Aveline, Varric, Isabella, Arishok...), others were handled extremely poorly (Fenris, Petrice, Meredith, Hawke) and others were downright moronic/insulting (Anders, Anders, Fucking Anders). And while I also appreciate that the plot isn't about Saving The World, I don't appreciate how ham-fisted the mage-templar conflict played out and how Hawke barely had any proactive agency despite being, y'know, the supposed protagonist.

There was a good game buried somewhere in there. Something that could have had soul in it. But it's hard to appreciate underneath all all the half-assed executions of half-baked ideas.

Great, so all that is missing from my regular version of DA + Awakening? And i can't upgrade to regular or buy separate dlc's (which are not in Steam store at all) except to buy the same game all over again just for dlc's. Fuckin EA

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can get the major DLCs on the Bioware site here. Login with your EA/Origin account. The cosmetic DLCs were free at some time, but I'm not sure if they still are. DA DLCs must be downloaded seperatly and activated by a launcher, so I'm pretty sure it will work on Steam, too. Still the Bioware points are expensive as fuck.

In my opinion for 7 € and 49 cents you could find games much better than Dragon Age. Like for example Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Divinity 2, Planescape Torment, Arcanum, Fallout 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Temple of the Elemental Evil, Pool of Radiance, Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption and Bloodlines, etc.

It's a decent game. But it's just Bioware-by-the-numbers instead of anything truly special. It tries to be a dark fantasy epic but it falls short and ends up as a mostly tedious and pretentious LotR wannabe. It's hardly the studio's finest endeavour but for 7.49 euro you can wring out a decent hundred hours of entertainment. Be sure to check out the Dragon Age Nexus for mods as well. Start off with Advanced Tactics, Combat Tweaks, DA Redesigned, Extra Dog Slot, Improved Atmosphere, JB Textures, Morrigan Restoration Patch, Storage Chests, ZDF Dialogue Fix.

As for DLC, Awakening is a decent but obviously rushed and clunky addition to the main campaign, Lelianna is a minuscule but semi-fun diversion and the rest are not worth bothering with. And DA2... Suffice to say it fell far, far short of what it could/should have been.

I have played through Origins three times on PS3, three or four times on PC. I absolutely loved the game and its universe. I say it is completely worth it. Dragon Age 2 was a bit of a let down but I still loved the game. Waiting on Dragon Age: Inquisition now.

The console version does NOT compare to the PC version - you lose the whole tactical combat! Plus, enemy encounters were actually made easier on the console versions (less monsters per encounter).

Sorry, guess I was too subtle. :)

This was an expression of massive disappointment at the sequel, i.e. pretending that it doesn't exist. Yes there is a game called "Dragon Age 2" - but if you enjoyed the first game, and wanted a sequel to that - what would you suggest?

For many fans of the old Bioware, it's the point where the eyes were uncovered. They aren't making games for people like me any more... :)
