remember the mod "Black Mesa" from 2012? everyone thought it was awesome but it wasn't complete,it didn't have a complete campaign...
The Devs behind it are gonna release it as a full game today (Early access ),it has a complete Single player campaign,multi-player and mod support.., (they're still working on Xen though )
this guy just finished live streaming the whole campaign (9 hours)

whats the difference to the free Black Mesa Mod?
There is still no Xen but they are charging 20$ just to have it on steam.

I would go with the free version at this point.

I just downloaded this from their website couple of days ago and played a little. Whats the difference between this and the one that's available for free?

from what I've read on their forum, the difference(s) between the Steam and the free version has not been decided yet.

there are new animations,soundtracks,voice acting,etc.
overall the new steam version is also more polished compared to the free mod and they will add Xen to it in near future.

Black Mesa was fantastic when I played through it recently. I think the guys deserve some cash for the effort.

I'll likely grab it when it's under $10 and out of Early Access though.

Sure, I will throw some money at this. Might as well since HL3 isn't ever coming out.

I bought it and played it when it first came out. (I'm an old fart.) I expect that I will pay for this latest iteration, too.

Very nice, I knew this existed when I came across it replaying the whole HL series but didn't think I'd see it again :P

Are they asking for money for a game that i already completed and a mod that i already played? I'm ok with that. BUT 20€ LOL NOPE

The MOD was awesome, is great they launch a pay version, but 20 USD is a bit high (well maybe not only a bit) for me, still i keep an eyes on it to see if the price drop during the next big sale or whenever.

I bought it and played it when it was still new, although I don't remember how long after release I first played it. It must've been pretty new, because I played it before I went to Okinawa, so it would be prior to April 1999.

And yes, I'm old (35).

so everybody tells valve and bethesda, how stupid paid mods are and that mods should definitely be free. they should be born of passion. paying for them would destroy the scene bla bla. but it seems no one has a problem paying 20$ for a mod, that should have been free (like the devs promised earlier).

i personally have nothing against paid mods. but 5$ (absolute maximum: 10$) would have been more accurate. 20$ just seems extremely expensive.

i think $20 is a fair price.
i mean Black Mesa is not a mod,it's a complete remake of HL1.
these guys worked really hard on Black Mesa,it's not your every day "visual enhancement" mod,the remade the whole HL1 on a new engine, they added new animations, sounds and a multiplayer mode to it. (something like Halo 1 remake ,but in this case an indie team did it )
i think those guys deserve it,creating mods/games is not east and creating a mod like Black Mesa requires a dedicated team and a lot of time and hard work.

If its 10$ I would buy it but 20 its too much , they even said they will rise the price when its out of EA.

Pity, I played through basically what the desura mod version had to offer when it was released but xen was not finished, still a fantastic mod, i was blown away.
