I'm a big music lover (like a lot of other people), so now I'm looking for some new bands to listen to. If you can suggest me a good band, I'll add you to my whitelist, so you can participate in my (first) giveaway. I'm giving away Real Boxing™, I know it is not much, but as soon as I get some more money, I'll probably give away a bigger game (or more).

So I'm really into metal, so please don't suggest anything other then that. The bands I'm currently really enjoying are:

Iron Maiden (my favourite ever since I started listening to them)
Satan
Arch Enemy
Amon Amarth
Megadeth
Skid Row

And some others. So please suggest some bands (even some of the bigger names) and a song (or two) that I should check out from them. I will whitelist you for this giveaway if I think the band is (even if it is just a little) good. So if you suggest anything in the metal, you are almost certain to be whitelisted.

The giveaway will start today in 3 hours (August 16, 13:00 in the Netherlands) and end after two weeks (as I'm not sure how long it will take for a reasonable amount of people to participate), so on 30 August at 13:00. The giveaway is for any level.

And for the ones added to my whitelist, here is the giveaway.

Some nice suggestions in this thread. Did anyone already pointed you to Blind Guardian?

Or if you like it a bit rougher, here's a little known but excellent Mexican Death Metal band: Cenotaph

My metal taste didn't change since I was teenager, so I still like shit like: SoD (and solo career Serj Tankian ), RAtM, MSI, MM, Slikpnot, Korn .

So yeah...not gonna be of any help to discover new music ^^. (And I don't even what is considerate metal in that...if any ^^)

I really like Agalloch. You'll need to bring some time tho, most songs are 10mins+ (and in my opinion the albums are best listened to as a whole). In the linked album, that one moment 14 minutes into Black Lake Niðstång sends shivers down my back every time.
... it's raining outside my window ... this is just the music for today :)

Most seem really interesting, although I'm not a big fan of Sepultura. No need to suggest more bands. I get plenty just from this thread. I think it will take me about two or three years to listen to all the amazing bands that have been posted here (and the ones that will come in the coming week orso). Added you to the whitelist.

Yeah, I also like Death metal a lot, although I don't listen to it all the time. My mind just has to be in the right place to listen to most of that (which lately it has been a lot).

So yeah... I'm already on you WL but I will post something nice anyway ;) But beware - it won't be music you asked for. Why? Well, first of you got a shitload of links already. And second thing? Well second, and more important reason is... who the hell locks himself with only one genre? :O Dude, belive me, you don't want to do that, there is so much great music, that you don't like becasue you didn't gave it a chance. But let's stop talking, and start listening, I will post only one genre right now ;)

(Don't Fear) The Reaper
Carry On Wayward Son
Highway to Hell

You should be able to find more with youtube suggestions, after listening to that classics ;)

I know. Metal is just the main genre I'm listening to. I occasionally listen to some classic rock or hard rock. Btw, metal is not just one genre. There are so many different metal genres. But I just don't like rap and the newer pop stuff.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nah, it actually is one genre. You know it's like we have only few genres, that later split in more specific ones. So, like in case of the rock, the rock is one genre BUT, you have all that stuff like inidie rock, punk rock, classic rock, progressive rock, pop rock, you name it. Same goes for metal and any other genre.

And I think you should give a chance to every genre and sub genre. You might not know what you are losing. I'm talking from my own experience.

I don't really need a spot on your WL and I already have the game - just posting a few track picks from metal bands I've listened to because I also love all forms of metal :)

Gonna be overlaps with a lot of other posters but here we go:

Adrenaline Mob - straight up, cheesy at times but fast paced normal Heavy Metal
Anthrax - Thrash Metal
Cynic - started out as Progressive Death Metal but are now more ensconced in Progressive Rock
Dream Theater - Progressive Metal. At times their later output will descend into technical wankery, but those are the kind of pyrotechnics I love to listen to :P
Pantera - Groove Metal
Slayer - Thrash Metal
Tool - some people consider their later output Progressive Metal, others think it is Progressive Rock - even their earlier output has some odd time signature segments, and I'd think they're still heavy, though ;)

Metallica, even though they're kind of sloppy now live, are still one of my favourites though!

Halestorm - Apocalyptic
Epica - The Second Stone: This is symphonic metal, I don't know if you are into this.
Combichrist - Gimme Deathrace: Combichrist tends to mix metal with electronic music. I love their work with the Devil May Cry soundtrack.
Gamma Ray - Heavy Metal Universe
Chickenfoot - Last Temptation: Joe Satriani plays on this band.
Accept - Balls to the wall: This song is pretty famous, you might already know it.
The Killers - Read My Mind: I don't know if you will like the killers, but I love it. It is alternative rock and their songs are pretty calm.
