I'm a big music lover (like a lot of other people), so now I'm looking for some new bands to listen to. If you can suggest me a good band, I'll add you to my whitelist, so you can participate in my (first) giveaway. I'm giving away Real Boxing™, I know it is not much, but as soon as I get some more money, I'll probably give away a bigger game (or more).

So I'm really into metal, so please don't suggest anything other then that. The bands I'm currently really enjoying are:

Iron Maiden (my favourite ever since I started listening to them)
Satan
Arch Enemy
Amon Amarth
Megadeth
Skid Row

And some others. So please suggest some bands (even some of the bigger names) and a song (or two) that I should check out from them. I will whitelist you for this giveaway if I think the band is (even if it is just a little) good. So if you suggest anything in the metal, you are almost certain to be whitelisted.

The giveaway will start today in 3 hours (August 16, 13:00 in the Netherlands) and end after two weeks (as I'm not sure how long it will take for a reasonable amount of people to participate), so on 30 August at 13:00. The giveaway is for any level.

And for the ones added to my whitelist, here is the giveaway.

the hirsch effekt is a german experimental prog-post-whatever-metal combo with some strange sounds.

envy is a japanese postrock/screamo band.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJRKqANcDBI

Fall of Efrafa were a British post hardcore / dark metal band. They released three awesome records.

isis where something like the big players in the post metal scene. all records are absolut fantastic

Not really metal bands, but maybe you would enjoy Linkin Park (Given Up, War), Breaking Benjamin (Diary of Jane, Blow me away) and 30 Seconds To Mars (This is War).

P.S.: Maybe you know these bands (because they are popular enough), but since noone suggested these yet, I thought I might.

One I would suggest (that is somewhat mainstream?) that has good metal-ish music, that is from the 90's but got a replacement singer and are still making good music currently is

Alice in Chains

some example songs I can recommend are:
Rooster

God Am

but, they have a lot of songs that I love to listen to....so check others, they may tickle your ear-holes as well =o

I have on of their albums (don't know which of the top of my head), but I never really got into it. I maybe listened to it once or twice. But after listening to those songs, I might give it another go. Added you to the whitelist.

First of all you've got good taste, Sir! I love the Iron Maiden - and I feel compelleted to hereby state Jackson shark fin guitars are pretty cool.

That said, maybe you would like some Blind Guardian? They started as Thrash band, but switched to Power Metal quickly enough. Nightfall in Middle Earth is a pretty good album.

Otherwise, if you also enjoy some more tame/Hardrock styles, how about The Darkness? They've got some totally killer riffs, and "irresponsible" guitar solos.

Metal is my absolute favorite music genre... I'm not really a fan of bands like Iron Maiden or Megadeth though, but I do love Amon Amarth. Oh god, there are so many bands I would love to suggest, but I'll try to not make the list too long. Also, many of the bands I've seen people suggest aren't even metal. :(

Dark Tranquillity - Terminus & Focus Shift
Insomnium - The Gale/Mortal Share & The Elder
Katatonia - Rusted & Into the White
Whitechapel - Diggs Road
Five Finger Death Punch - House of the Rising Sun
Hour of Penance - Paradogma
The Foreshadowing - Death is Our Freedom
Suidakra - March of Conquest
Drudkh - Furrows of Gods
Demon Hunter - God Forsaken & The Last One Alive
Be'lakor - Abeyance
Persefone - Mind As Universe
Wolfheart - The Hunt
Eluveitie - Call the Rain
Heaven Shall Burn - Hunters Will Be Hunted
Novembers Doom - Rain
Before the Dawn - Faithless
Ichor - The Deepest Blue Is Black
Battlelore - Third Immortal
Moonsorrow - Huuto
Immolation - Providence
Falkenbach - Eweroun
Kataklysm - Like Angels Weeping the Dark
Job for a Cowboy - Tarnished Gluttony
Wolfchant - Die Nacht Der Wölfe
Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon
Arkona - Odna
Draconian - Seasons Apart
Saturnus - Christ Goodbye

Sorry if the list is too big... it barely scratches the surface of what I listen to, hehe.

I do admit that a few of the songs I shared don't sound as much like metal as other songs I could have chosen. Sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint the exact genre/sub-genre to label a band as, because there are so many these days.

It might not all have been metal, but most bands I got suggested here are very good. And most were metal, or close to it.

No Eluveitie? Seriously? I can get Burying the Trend gets no mention but not Eluveitie - mentioned 37 seconds ago lol... (:. Also check Nevermore, In Extremo, Machinae Supremacy, Tool and Wintersun (couldn't find a decent Starchild link (: ).

As a side note... I think BABYMETAL is pretty decent. (:

Having been in your place 6 years ago, I can recommend some bands with certainty:

*Pantera, you are gonna love them for sure. Very aggressive sound and some really powerful solos that make your hair stand still.

*Firewind, very riffy band with melodic choruses

*Alice in Chains, old school grunge/metal. I didn't really get into them a lot, but i still listen their 3-4 most popular songs.

*Godsmack, darker sound in general, their vocalist is amazing.

*Symphony X, my favourite band, progressive metal at its finest. Powerful riffs and solos, and vocals that could brake a glass wall.

*System of a Down, the band that got me into metal. Their style is unique and you won't listen to anything similar to them, I swear.

I have a lot more but i tried to keep it simple. I am sure you will love these.

I don't know if they are alreday named, but these are some i like it.
I suggest you don judge it only for one single, search for more.

Metallica - Whiskey In The Jar
Ozzy Osbourne- Crazy Train
Judas Priest - Electric Eye
Disturbed - Stricken

I usually don't judge by one single, bu I get so many good suggestions here, that one single really makes me decide to listen to it or not (at least for the moment). Most bands you mentioned I already listened to and sound great! I just don't really like Metallica (except some of their earlier work).

Ok, it was only a suggestion, there are people that listen to one song and can say that the group don't like them.
I can't give you someting new, but i'm sure you get something from other posts. Enjoy it!!
I will have a look to get something for me too :)
