Max Payne 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (really waiting for the movie!), Metro 2033 (I also recommend the book, it's even greater than the game), Final Fantasy VII.
These games create great atmosphere and immersion, not saying they are the best games I've ever played!

I was playing sleeping dogs, and i like the atmosphere of the game, and i was wondering what games made you really feel their atmosphere, without regard for any other quality or lack thereof of those games ?
i also liked the atmosphere in Amnesia especially because of the sounds, dwarf fortress because of its mechanics and appeal to imagination via ascii, arcanum because of the music, war in the pacific admiral edition because of the details and a better understanding of the picture it gives, thief the first... Alien vs Predator first of the name managed to get me survival scared.
Immersion is fine if you prefer :-)
