Hello, just wondering what fellow SG'ers like to play?

I feel lucky that, since joining SG, I've been able to win a few games in several different genres that I would have never tried out (or even heard of ) otherwise.

So, here's a fun poll for you all! (Or you can just leave a comment with what Genre you choose, and even qualify it, e.g.:

Story-Rich
Exploration
Sandbox
Fantasy
Sci-Fi
Gothic
)

What is your most favorite game genre? (I.e. if you had to spend limited cash on a bag full of games, that's what you would choose over any other genre!)

My favorite games are ones with really strong stories and characters, so there's a lot of genres of games I've loved playing - metroidvanias, FPS, Third person action, third person platforming, etc. My solid go-to genres, though, are walking sims/narrative exploration games, visual novels, and RPGs.

Hidden object games are their own category for me - playing them is like spending an afternoon curled up by a cozy fireplace, which is a really nice feeling if not a deep or passionate one.

Anything with a good story, atmosphere or unique concept! I prefer to have games of all different genres knocking around in my library so that there's always something to suit what I'm in the mood for. I also play almost exclusively 2D games, because 3D graphics tend to be too Uncanny Valley for me and/or too hard on my PC. Oh, and anything that's first-person makes me motion sick, huzzah.

Plus I've always liked experimental games like Little Inferno, Her Story, and Local Host. Video games can always use a little innovation.

Platformers in any of their flavors, but it's not in the list. I guess action-adventure would be an obvious second but you only added them as separate options and that's not quite the same. Metroidvanias and puzzlers are also MIA :(

At first I was like, "Oh, how will I ever be able to pick a favorite genre?"

And then I saw Role Playing Games, and thought, "Oh, that, right there, that's the one."

3D Platformers. I love roaming around mini open worlds.

But really, anything that makes me feel like I'm going on a grand journey or adventure in a road trip sort of vibe tends to be the types of games I enjoy the most. This can come from a basic platformer with no story and varied level and game design to even a visual novel with minimal gameplay and heavy story.

Strategies and adventures for me, but if a game is good, it can be any genre.

Point and Click and HOG, but I also love basebuilding/survival simulation games. Also, I can't turn down a good walking simulator.
