some will blacklist you for saying thanks, some will blacklist you for not saying thanks. this blacklisting shit is kind of ridiculous, if you ask me. i would never even think of blacklisting someone, because he thanked me, lol.

if the guy who blacklisted you make a giveaway you cant enter.you get an error saying that you are blacklisted by this person....

This blacklisting thing is going out of hand IMO.
If I was CG then I would shut-down blacklisting.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Apologies for any offence. I never meant to suggest you were the OP, although I can see where my post may have been a little misleading :)
The first sentence was replying to you. The second was intended for the OP. Please feel free to unpack your asbestos Y-fronts...

I really don't understand the whole "blacklisting" thing.... I have been a member for a while now and have 0 members blacklisted. There have been a few ungrateful winners in my giveaways (like saying you hope the enjoy the game and there only response is MEH), but I always figure that the odds of them winning something else from me is way to slim to bother putting any effort into tracking them in a list.
Also if we start blacklisting everyone who says thank you, and everyone who doesn't... who is left? Sure there are some funny gifs or pictures that people reply with to say thank you, but you see the same in other giveaways so are the copy and paste as well? Assume someone is a bot? Blacklist them as well... I don't know.... its just a difficult thing to understand....

+1, agreed.
Blackinglisting is leading to the end of Steamgifts.
Blacklisting = 666

Or maybe because it's written in the site's guidelines that thanking others for their generosity is encouraged.

I was just about to link that,

Some people are genuinely thankful for the opportunity and are being polite. I don't say thanks all of the time because it seems like everyone here has turned having manners into a criminal offense.

When someone c/p any variant of 'thanks' it loses all meaning and it just becomes spam.

I can understand that, however, not everyone does it. Obviously its impossible to differentiate who does and who doesn't but I don't think anyone should be chastised for saying thanks. What is it that really bothers people about it? Does it irritate you to see the messages clutter your inbox?

The problem is not with saying thanks, it's with copy pasting the same "thanks" message, everywhere, every time. I usually have multiple giveaways running at the same time and find the same people posting the exact same "Thanks" comment. I personally like it when people actually comment on the game given, on something in the description, or in case of entering multiple giveaways even slightly changing the message each time or you know, anything to tell it's not an automated response which means nothing. At least that's what I do when I leave a comment.

I usually go with simple "Thank you" unless I have something I can relate to or manage to come up with something witty. That way gifter can, if he wants to, easily filter it out with script.
I thank on giveaways to show my appreciation for chance given, so everytime its hand typed. And assume the same is true for others commeting on my gas. (Yes, I know and have seen scripts and CP in action, but I like to think it's minority)

It is quite easy to differentiate. Just write a different message to each giveaway.

Who is to say people are copying and pasting? That's a huge assumption. I try to say thanks on every one I enter.

^ This. I thank in some short way on (almost) every giveaway I enter. Occasionally I add a bit more

I don't C&P. My comments are usually "Thanks" "Thanks a bunch" "Thank you :)" "Much appreciated" .... etc. etc. But I type out every single one of them. I'll only say more if the game has some special significance to me or if the creator asks something/wants a specific response.

Interesting that a 2 button combination takes the meaning out of something. I honestly don't care if they type a "T" and "Y" or hit "CTRL" + "C", they are still making a conscious effort to show appreciation. I will take that over having 50 entries and 2 thank yous any day of the week.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not everyone. I still support being thankful in the giveaway comments section, as long as it isn't a boring copy pasted comment.
I usually type something funny or interesting, and a thanks at the same time. I just feel guilty otherwise (I know I shouldn't).

There are for sure. But reality is most of these messages are automated, very apparent in public giveaways.

I wouldn't worry it that much. You cannot please everyone with same manners as people have different opinions. Just remember to show your appreciation at some point if you win.

They can't redeem the game if they already own it. They can't give it to friends if they don't have any. They can't sell keys if they're all bundle keys and even if they weren't, they wouldn't be bothered to go through that kind of trouble for hundreds of them. I have no idea who I'm talking about.

Because some do it because they want to say thanks and it just how they are. Some see it as spam of sorts but i do not, though i also do not care if people say thanks or not when i do a GA i leave it up to them.
I think to blacklist someone for saying thanks is not the right choice but that is just how i feel,i think saying thanks is same as thanking someone for holding the door open for you or such, because it is the right thing to do,as in both cases neither is forced to be nice but choose to do so.
If the creator does not wish to have replies they can say so when they make the GA/Post.I would rather see someone say thanks you then a random post about Volvo,Potato or the even worse the Thanks for Skyrim or Bad Rats. I consider that more spam more then i do a thanks you.

I think it's because they believe in karma. If there is a game I really would like to win, I just comment something to make my chances higher (not mathematically, but spiritually). Nearly all of them are based on thanks but with added a word or two, or in another language.

Because it's a polite thing to do. Simple as that. Even if it's spam it's polite to thank another person for a chance of winning a free game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed, most of us are raised to say thank you for something that has been offered. I always try to leave a thank you in the comments because it is nice to do, unless the person has requested something else then I try to do that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Same. It's actually quite appalling how many people on Steamgifts appear to have been raised otherwise.
Comment has been collapsed.
What really bummers the spirit is the number of people who do not thank even after winning.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm usually pretty good about thanking in advance, so I didn't use to thank after. But with the new system, I like saying thanks again while notifying the creator once the game has been activated and marked as received.
Comment has been collapsed.
Personally it does not matter at which point the winner shows appreciation. But I have had many winners who do not thank at all at any point. They simple take the gift and leave.

I used to say thanks on any giveaways I entered when I first joined. I felt it was the appropriate thing to do. However with all the scripts to autojoin autothanks snipe keys etc I started only commenting when the descriptions ask me too. In the majority of my giveaways I specifically tell people not to say thanks. I personally dont want to log into a billion thanks to find out I missed a message I do care about because I just marked all as read and moved on.

I haven't been using steamgifts that long. At first I thought it was bots, but I asked questions and stuff in a few giveaways and a surprising number of people responded appropriately. So I guess it is often just people being polite - and I don't really need an inbox full of 'thanks!' but I'm not going to complain about people being polite. People commenting simply 'ty' feels a little disrespectful to me though. And for all I know people commenting in cyrillic script might be saying 'I am outside your building making the love to your livestock!!!'
Comment has been collapsed.
Just not one of mine please. I'd be worrying about my livestock all night.
Comment has been collapsed.
I do not care one way or the other.
Unless it is stated in the giveaway description to not do so.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not thanking is equally likely to get you blacklisted.
You're best off deleting your Steamgifts account altogether, and spending the rest of your days drinking turps and playing Bad Rats.

People who are annoyed by reading thanks in their giveaway, should try writing the GA description in binary and making sure to read every single comment... a simple, common, overused "thanks" comment will suddently look so wonderful :P (Yes, I'm speaking from experience XD)
Comment has been collapsed.
Hahaha! It would be awesome to write a script such that every "thanks" and "thank you" shows up instead as "your are amazingly good looking" and "I wish I had your intelligence".
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, then they shouldn't make giveaways if they are displeased to be praised.

you say thanks you get blacklisted by some ppl,you say nothing you get blacklisted by others.maybe adding a random gif is better and more safe.
Comment has been collapsed.
Very few are trully thankful.
Most of them use a shitty bot to enter every possible giveaway and leave behind a blank ty. If you click on the profiles of some of them you will notice 2 strange things:
Will i be wrong if i blacklist them?
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! Just kidding. It's probably a bot, especially if its the exact same comment on two giveaways running at the same time. Personally, I don't comment often, and when I do I try to make it topical, because I would rather have no comment than a bottled response so that's what I do for others.

I find it kind of weird how something can have like 50 comments and all of them are just "Thanks!!!" "Thanks :)" or something like that. It makes it look like everybody is just spamming it.
