What about the walk every 30 minutes to the fridge? That counts also right?

Also, Health Food means I eat it as I walk back to the computer. Don't judge me.

I sit a lot due to almost all my friends living in other towns and since we all work and some even have kids now, it's hard to see often and do stuff. My countermeasure is to walk 5-15 km a day (not counting walking to work, stores, other places and back), usually in the evenings. Sometimes people join me and we talk, sometimes I go as fast as I can while listening to music.

But then again, I get home, take a shower and sit in front of my PC, because... I can't just stand in the middle of the room.

Yup. Move around enough or risk health problems.
See also this article, which despite sensationalist title does a decent job at explaining the root cause (blot clots that can happen from sitting too long) and how gamers are at increased risk. (since on average, they sit around a lot.)

Speaking from experience, it's all about moderation. A few years back I got it in my head that I wanted to run marathons. So, I did the training, working up to the 3-4 hour long runs going 20+ miles. I accomplished my goal and finished fairly decently in one of the bigger marathons. Guess what though? Sitting for long periods of time increases risk of blood clots, but so does running for long periods or other endurance activities. I'm in perfect health otherwise, but I ended up with multiple blood clots in one of my legs before hitting age 30. Fortunately, I had access to good doctors and one of the better blood thinners recently marketed, so the outcome was better than it easily could have been.
The point is, moderation is key.

Probably 11+ hours. Although I typically get up several times an hour. I've read that 2 minutes walking an hour is enough to offset the problems.

Nice, thanks. Actually I have a forest very close to the hostel. Plus bicycle. It all comes down to my laziness and apathy.

These are study based on stats. People sitting a lot have better chances to be obese (and like 90% of everything said on this study applies especially in that case, the other 10% is probably because of stress).
Of course people sitting a lot may die soon, but mostly because the obese part of the population usually sits a lot AND because most stressing jobs are the ones that require you to sit on a desk.
Seeing studies like this one pisses me off, like the one about wearing heels, etc.

Btw, stress kills a lot, be careful with that if you always have a dense schedule, and don't worry too much on the amount of hours you sit.

But live longer (maybe, as there are other factors involved), and feel better while alive. Those are the points.

Totally depends on the time of year. During the summer or work, my job keeps me on my feet and moving from 7 A.M. to usually 10:00 P.M., excepting meals. Even then, it's a half mile walk just to breakfast every morning. During school however (studying mechanical engineer), I'm sitting for 10-14 hours a day doing work. I'm not one to work out (because I'm usually so physical anyhow with hiking, climbing, and work, but I found myself having to do pushups and planks during the day to keep myself feeling alright and my neck from hurting. On the bright side, I was doing 350+ pushups a day for a while.

I do sit or lay on the bed a lot, but I do also walk about 6 km 4-5 times per week so hopefully I am safe. The bigger problem is the junkfood which I eat a lot more lately (preparing for my final exams at Uni is very demanding and I do need a lot of sugar to be able to cope with it), but hopefully I will be able to put that bad habit to rest in June when I (hopefully) pass them.

The only walking I do during the day, is the walk from my chair to my bed.

Edit: YAY!! It's my cake day :)

I sit a lot, due to a combination of work, hobbies, lifestyle etc... But I'm aware it's not good for me.... Just need to change it.

This (Except for the work part, although that might change in a week or so)

I personally try to walk as much as possible when I'm not on my PC. So, yeah, I watch TV while walking, I have breakfast while walking, and I reply to text messages while walking.

There's a program called Workrave I use at work that helps remind you to stand up (and take your eyes off the screen) for 30s every 5 min and to take a 5-minute break every 2 hours. All intervals and durations are configurable.

Of course, I turn it off when I'm gaming. ;-)
