I have not, but from what I read it is comparable to the final act of some mobas, meaning you skip the grind and go straight to the battle. What I can say is, the battle is intense and fairly balanced. Both the heroes and the matchmaking. For being in early access it can only get better which the very recent patch is proof.
It is gonna be free to play but only a curated selection of heroes will be available instead of all if you buy in now.

Broforce: played it since alpha, when everything worked fine. Then they implemented new mechanisms, added special levels, 3-4times bigger storymode, new characters - everything got even better :)
Diesel Rogue Stormers playet it in really early access, was lagging a lot, now it runs better but it's a completely different game after they basically restarted. Haven't played enough to decide good or bad.
NEO Scavenger: haven't played since release, but months before that when I did it was actively patched, balanced, and already was a well-thought out survival game. The game just blazed through EA with very positive reviews, and it's still there :)

Absolutely, I'm just not sure it's a direction I'm really happy with. It started out as a sidescroller game, a little like mighty n9. The game kept it's tone with an overblown steampunkish setting (imagine humans vs orks in an industrial era, with Starship Troopers-like propaganda in it) which is awesome, but the game zoomed out, maybe to cover the whole buildings, and the character looks really small which is really weird for me. + being a twin stick shooter game with roguelike elements. eeeeeh, I'm rather just afraid to try it (I backed it at Kickstarter, maybe that's why I'm afraid to check how it turned out after the change)

Played a lot of Early Access games so far, and the only BIG disappointment for me was Next Car Game: Wreckfest. Game became worse than it was 2 years ago and being uptated extremely slowly. Also was disappointed in TOXIKK, but mostly not about gameplay part - devs changed some things they promised not to change.
On the other hand i had great experience with Lost Castle, Mad Games Tycoon, Speedrunners, Killing Floor 2, Plague Inc: Evolved, The Cursed Forest (still EA) and many others. All those games i bought at very early stages of EA development.

What did they make worse with Next Car Game: Wreckfest?
& what did they change with TOXIKK?

I've only had good luck with Rust Honestly.....it's updated frequently and feels like it's going somewhere. I've picked up other games like the Stomping Land, and Beasts of Prey...both of which were abandoned and left to rot....I've picked up other games like DayZ which hasn't been abandoned, but doesn't feel like it's going anywhere....So, I tend to stay away from Early Access games(As well as incompleted Episodic games from Indie developers)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea, unfortunately, those are the only games I don't mind picking up EA. I only don't mind getting those, because they are open ended games. They don't have an ending or story/plot...So, I can pretty much play and enjoy what's given to us. For instance, there are a few RPGs on EA right now that look interesting, but since an RPG is heavily reliant on story and character advancement it would KILL me playing an incomplete one. Same with any game with a plot/story really.
I can't handle having to wait for someone else to decide when I need content. It's why I tend to wait til an episodic game series is completed before buying it(Can't wait for this new batman to finish up so I can buy it), and why I wait til TV show seasons are either added to Netflix or sold on Bluray. Sometimes I wait til the whole series is over before watching it(I did that with Lost, Smallville, and 24..and am waiting for the entire series of Walking Dead to finish so I can binge watch the whole series.)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I am in a similar mode. I rather wait for a series to be finished (even if it will take a loooong time) than to experience it in parts. Although sometimes I do indulge myself into something thats not done.
I would never buy a RPG in early access, unless it was to support the developer.

Games do take years to finish but yeah DayZ keeps missing their release dates & doesn't seem like they have done much with how much money they have gotten

Wasteland 2: probably did not need to be in early access. It feels like they mainly did it to outsource some of the beta testing and make backers happy. Generally good game. (played post EA)
Godus/Godus wars: I wrote in my review that it was probably the dullest strategy game I've ever played, and I stand by it. It's just so boring, and it probably never will be good.
Worlds of Magic/Planar Conquest: Yet another game by Wasteland interactive that fails to reach its potential :( Kinda boring and with a needlessly confusing interface. (played post EA)
Master of Orion I quite liked this one. Is it the best 4X space game on steam? Nope. But it's fun and has a lot of personality. (Played post EA).
Paladins: A bit limited in terms of content, but I liked it enough to buy the complete heroes pack. One of the best multiplayer FPSs I've played in years.
And I'm trying to remember if I've played any other games that were in early access. I probably have, I just can't think of them right now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Another one who bought worlds of magic! A pity you didnt enjoy it. I hope planar conquest is good to me, I want a "successor" to Master of Magic.
I am on the fence on paladins. I am a carebear and avoid people, but sometimes I can play competitive games, I wonder if I should risk it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Planar Conquest is supposedly an improvement over Worlds of Magic (I did not play them before Planar Conquest was released), and I was unimpressed. It's still buggy, and it sadly fails to engage me at the same level as Master of Magic or even Fallen Enchantress did. And really, this is the story with all games by Wasteland. They're not as good as the games they're inspired by (and a bit buggy). I don't seem to be the only one who thinks that this is the case, just look at the reviews their games have got on steam. All of them "mixed" except for one which is mostly negative, and only a single one has got more than 50% positive reviews (Time of Fury at 58%)
Paladins is quite nice for a shooter. It's not as serious as something like Counter Strike, and the community also seems a lot less harsh. Rounds are also over in about 10-15min, so there's not much at stake when you play.

Road Redemption plays nothing like Road Rash i was quite disappoint when I played it, forgetting I saw a review that already explained this :p
Comment has been collapsed.
It's been a while since i played Road Redemption but yeah that bullshit XP leveling up crap changes how it plays hugely, the combat & bike handling are quite different too the only things that make them the same is that there are bikes racing/fighting on public roads. It's like saying GT6 is a modern version of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 they both have cars that race on roads :P
I have a question too, do you know if you can beat the game without using those death perks?
Comment has been collapsed.
The only one in EA that I can think of that I have played is The Long Dark, and that is only recently. I am liking it quite a bit so far! I am looking forward to the story mode, but the sandbox part is quite fun.:)
Sorry, I have also played The Story Goes On and Finding Teddy. I have enjoyed both games quite a bit. The Story Goes On is still actively being worked on, and there have been recent news that Finding Teddy is no longer abandoned and the developer is working on it again (which is great news, as I like it quite a bit).

It is quite rare indeed! I think the only other example I can think of is Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries looks to be getting a second (final?) chapter after the original company (GRIN) went bankrupt and the rights to the game got bought by Rebellion. From what I saw in the Discussions, they are working on Chapter 2, which would be nice, as it looks like a really fun game.

I can't speak for everyone else, but, I generally avoid EA games, I think there's a certain foolishness to laying out money for a game that's not complete (I don't kickstart either). the only reason I bought Master of Orion early access is because it came with the original games, which I really wanted
Comment has been collapsed.
Well the funds help the devs (but they shouldnt rely on it only), and it can be fun to experience changes in the game. I avoid it because I am lacking patience now, but before I didnt had problems with it. And I had great time with certain games, like craft the world and smash+grab (which if I didnt play EA i wouldnt play at all, since they are cancelling, the memories are good).
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it's because the good games tends to be the ones that gets out of early access, while the bad ones just end up in some low-end bundle and then sits in people's libraries unplayed. The vast majority of the early access games I have are games that I've not even touched, and probably never will.
Comment has been collapsed.
most early access games I've played have been pretty under whelming, very few actually wind up living up to the hype. Many of them have a great concept, but fail to deliver, or have such slow production schedules by the time they actually reach half of the promise, you've already moved onto other things..
Can't really recall any of noteatm..

The Forest is the first one that comes in mind whenever someone asks if it's worth to buy Early Access games. It is still in alpha (not even beta), no storyline disclosed so far and yet, an amazing game to play. The devs are really commited to their work. Regular updates, fixes, improvements.
Victory: The age of Racing was a great game while in EA (yep, bought it). A small but very helpful community, great graphics, smooth to play. But then the devs did that F2P move and everything went down the hole.
Adventurer Management was very fun while in EA, but I haven't touched in a long while. It's out of EA now.
Dungeon Souls is a great roguelike, and I really reccomend buying it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Apparently the devs abandoned the game and focused on their other game, racecraft. they even provided free keys for racecraft for those who purchased Victory before going F2P. So now it is a dead game, no players, lot of bugs.
About Dungeon Souls, I had the same concerns before playing it. Even so, it's a great game. Gets very hardcore a few levels ahead. Worth the buy, but get it on a sale if you have doubts about it. After all, it's a dungeon crawler, and there's a s#!tload of those in Steam.

Eastside Hockey Manager.
Did active give suggestion and critic in The Blue Line forum which the developer had actively responded to the forum. Glad it leave Early Access after 1 year but still got bugs but not too annoying.

I can think of 4 I've played (I own a few I haven't started yet mostly hoping they get updated more...
Ark: Survival Evolved - Played this one 999 hours until the updates were just KILLING my SDD I think it rewrites the whole damned game to update and it's currently something like 60GB. Played it MP with a few friends, we all kind of had our own places and tried to outdo each other. Won it on here, but it's probably worth full price if you have the space and like MP games.
7 Days to Die - 979 hours so far, gets large and fairly frequent updates - This game really pisses me off, yet I play it constantly. It's a pretty big grind right now, I'd say the updates are a mixed bag, I play it almost all solo which they don't seem to be working towards, updates can be frustrating for SP as fanbois seem to drive the game ever more to MP I must be crazy, but I'd say money well spent even with the game always moving away from SP
Savage Lands - 85 Hours, Liked this one too, but when I played (about a year ago?) there was a bit of a lack of content after you advanced to killing the ghosts and armored "death knights" and Dire Bears. Fun and solid hours for the money, but it's a survival game you will feel like you "finished" unlike the two above. (unless there has been updates in the past year) Also loved the "setting" snow island.
Firefly online (cortex) - Looks like this has turned into an abandoned title. Don't think the "real" game is ever forthcoming. Sad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well by your hours played I can see you are a big survival fan! I am interested in 7 days to die but dunno if I should take the bullet. Savage Lands I think I own a key from a bundle but havent decided if I should redeem it yet, a friend who I was going to play with cant run the game for technical reasons, tried a bunch of stuff and couldnt get it fixed.

Prison Architect: Although the game didnt ran perfectly on our old POS laptop it was overall a good experience and Im happy to see how much the game has evolved since early acces. I would have no qualm throwing my money at Introversion again
Derby Disco Dodgeball: it was a pretty fun game, sadly the only thing that could really kill it is the relatively niche/low playerbase
Isomer: concept was good but sadly the game just felt overwhelmengly complicated with no coherent tutorial and it got abandoned by its devs so there you go.
Crush Crush: what can I say really XD its an idle game but more fun and you actually feel some sense of progression coupled with tongue and cheek humour added in for good measures.
Unturned: Game was and imho still is a lot of fun, sadly it doesnt run that well on my netbook atm >< Its among those rare genuine F2P game where you really dont have to buy anything if you dont want to.
Paranutical Activity: game sadly felt insanely rushed + the whole contrevery around the devs+ misleading advertising about multiplayer that never came to the game very much left a sour taste in my mouth.
Godus: No comment really.. Its a shitty grindy mobile game made by the biggest "storyteller" that is known in the game industry.
Flesh Eaters: Small but relatively fun zombie shooter/defense game, got it for a couple of cents but i would have payed more for it
Yet Another Zombie Defense: ditto, it doesnt cost overly much and it certainly can be fun to kill a couple of hours. Not triple a stuff, granted but for what it is, its good.
Serious Sam Classic Revolution: its basically the first two games packaged together with a bit of fresh coat, steam workshop added and multiplayer migrated to steamwork. The games are decent obviously but it doesnt really feel any overly special. Then again i got it for free so i dont think I can really complain ,much ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
There are a few groups on steam who arrange matches of "dead" games from time to time, have you tried joining or making one for that game?
Isomer seemed REALLY interesting to me, I was really disappointed they stopped development.
I stay away from idle games, they are a disease! They feast upon your desire to progress and in the end you feel you wasted too much time.
Thanks on your report on the games, I appreciate it!

There were alot good ones and i would like to recommend this one...:
in EA phase they communicated alot with community and changed the complete fighting system because community didn't like it...
Comment has been collapsed.
I played on free weekend and it didnt "get" me. But I play on buying when its cheap enough and I am in the mood. Seems like a great game. Changing fighting system can be complicated, but crucial if its just not good. Cool thing that they invested on it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, it's not a game for everyone, i can understand this... :)
At the beginning the fighting system was kind of round based and they changed it to an active combat system in the gameworld; must be a hard decision to make that...

I bought the Indie Royale Alpha Collection #1 five years ago, and immediately tried Wyv and Keep. They called it "alpha" but honestly even then it already seemed like a very polished release version to me.

I mostly buy EA games to play them later when they out of EA. So I mostly looking to encourage the developers.
Perhaps the only EA game I actually played was Invisible, Inc. I played the hell out of EA version, so when they finally added a proper campaign mode I finished it in a single play session. Still great game and I plan to replay it with dlc someday.
UPD: Now I remember that I also played Broforce - this game was lots of fun since the time of free prototypes.

It uses many roguelike mechanics, so be prepeared to die and restart the game a lot. The game is hard, but you have a lot of tactical options so it is ususally possible to succed in seemingly hopeless situation.I really like how well they combined stealth with procedural-generated levels, so you always need to step carefully since you cannot just load the game after failure (you have abilty to rewind time a turn back, but only can use it once per mission on standart difficulty). The connection between cyberspace and meatspace is also cool.

I tried :1- prison architecht : It was very good experience
Rust: it's a good game too but it needs alot of your time to play it, and it needs a little optimization

Orion prelude keeps changing games cause EA is sueing them for using weapon skins ...
Also it went free to play the other day .
Terraria is 10/10 game ... the amount of stuff we got for free after release , is content that some devs would charge the worth of another 2 games for .
And dont starve , the only survival game that gout Out of early access Kappa D:

Have they angered EA as well as Activision? I would not be surprised if it turns out to be true, the company behind ORION: whatever they want to call it today has a bit of a history of doing shady things...

I clocked in 329 hours. I bought the 5$ early access pack when I first started playing, and liked it so much that I thought the 30$ founder pack.
Cool thing about these packs is that you get 5% credit boost per battle, but your whole team gets that effect and not just you ^^
Apart from that, I've bought some awesome skins because the ship modelers in that game has my sense of aesthetic

I was so hyped with Tree of Life that I bought for copies, for me and my friends, last christmas. Unfortunately, the game is now kinda abandoned. No major updates, so the gameplay became massive and boring. Now, all we have are three game servers with a VERY HUGE map and nobody playing on it. Doesn't worth at all.

My experience has been to never play early access games, and that has been a good experience.

FUN FACT: HAVE A GOOD COMPUTER IF YOU WANT TO PLAY RUST
UNLESS OF COURSE YOU'D LIKE TO JOIN ME IN THE 6 FPS CLUB
Unfortunately for you anti-toaster cucks, I had a small problem...

(They've optimized the game a lot since I get like 20~ so it's tolerable now.

Wow. I played (and finished) Dead Rising 2 on 20-22fps, but no way I could do it in 6. Kinda amazing they managed to do that kind of optimization. Still you should upgrade, I bet when you do you will go "wow i cant believe I played like that before". I did.

For no reason at all I thought of this topic, searched the forums but didnt find a similar thread. What are the games that are\were Early Access that you got and what were your experience with them? That include games that SHOULD had been Early Acess, even major titles. Overall, you like the idea of Early Access to see how the game is being shaped and maybe contribute to it, or you think its a bad idea and would prefer that games be released when finished? I dont have much experience, but here is mine in no particular order:
Gnomoria: Great game. I played Dwarf Fortress in the past (but never managed to do well, didnt understood certain things. My best experience was my wrestler squad killing off a giant) and decided to give Gnomoria a go, and didnt regret it. Its much simpler but much more accessible too. Had great amount of fun with it. Some people got angry because the developer had some additional plans for it but scrapped them, but not me, I am happy with what I got and recommend the game for anyone who wants to dwelve in this genre but think DF is too complicated.
Warframe: This game is fun specially with friends, and have a mindless grind that distracted me (usually I dont like grind, but some games manage to make it enjoyable). The amount of bugs it got were too high at first, but it was a experience seeing them fixed (I reported some) and seeing the game grow. Its probably too different now from what I played.
Smash+Grab: Great game with fun combat (it had its problems, like not being able to counter people when I clearly pressed the button at the right time). Its a pity that the developers (who didnt get a publisher) had to close down, specially since they didnt add IP support and locked bot matches to a login feature, so its not possible to play offline when the servers go down.
Trove: Interesting game, had fun for a while with friends but honestly its too barren. The grind to get new items didnt appease me.
Dont Starve: Now this one I dont remember If I played EA, but I think I did. Really interesting title, had some good moments with it. They added more content now but I havent played that yet.
Worlds of Magic: I really, really, but REALLY wanted to play that because I love Master of Magic and caved in and bought full price to support the developers (I first tried a... ahem... alternative copy). Way too buggy. The developers started focusing on a mobile game to get funds to continue patching (a bad sign) then they made a new game and gave it away for free for users who got WOM, havent tried that one yet.
ORION: Prelude: This game kept changing names on development. Overall a fun experience, but nothing too major. Quite cheap too.
Godus: Now this one had really bad comments all over but I decided to spend my GMG credits on it because I love god games and decided to try it. Quite disappointed by it, really boring.
Valhalla Hills: Was really excited for this one, paid full price on it. And ended up with little things to do, and a balance problem that bothered me: I couldnt get enough food for my citizens no matter what. Theres been some updates since and even expansions, I will try them out eventually, but its one of the few that I didnt like.
Terraria: It was not EARLY ACCESS by name but it was in practice. The developers rushed to release it due to the realy good reception it got. At first I hated the game and even uninstalled it quickly, but decided to give a try dont know why and loved it. The amount of content it got eventually was amazing. My only complaint is that they focused on the hardcore people and made most of it too hard. I couldnt defeat the cultist boss or access the lunar\alien one. Also they nerfed the useful ball of light to oblivion and it became a glorified paper weight, and made the alternative item wayyyy too hard to get and by the time you already got it you are finished with the game. ;_:
Craft The World: I was really attracted to it and did something I usually dont: Impulse buy. Boy am I glad I did. I loved the game and it had a lot of things to do. The developers added more stuff but to be honest I prefer the way it was, some things added are kinda useless\complicated. Multiplayer support wasnt interesting to me.
Edge of Space: Nothing to do. Decided to wait for full release, then I didnt knew what to do. Also the graphics put me off for some reason.
A Valley Without Wind: Now this game (And others from the same developer apparently) changed a lot in development, it was amazing how much stuff changed, hopefully most for the better. It was quite a grind initially but I didnt mind. Havent tried the finished game yet, I lost my save because the developers put it on the game folder instead of my documents and I didnt backed that up, and I dont want to restart from scratch.
Overall I had a good experience with Early Access. I didnt contributed to the game development besides reporting bugs, but had fun seeing some games change over time. So, whats YOUR take on it?
