in fact i just gave godus another try last week and while there were certainly some enjoyable moments in the game i just could not progress more than a little on the second island before i finally gave up.
a very slow game and it feels even slower since you pretty much start at zero again when starting the next island. but i can handle that.
what i can't handle is that you have to wait for 5 to 15 hours (!!) for beacons to complete so you can finally extend your influence by barely half a screen size. and the island's got like 15 to 20 of them.
absolutely horrific.
not to mention that development has obviously stopped.

The first game I've ever bought in EA was The Last Door Season 2, and it was an easy decision: Season 1 was awesome, so I pretty much knew what to expect, so it made sense to support the developers before the game was completed. Needless to say, I didn't regret that purchase at all.
The other one is Anayoro from the developers of ARG The Black Watchmen; I loved their first game, and from what I've got these guys are pretty responsible ones, so I think they've earned my trust - but still, the result is yet to be seen.
The third (and the last one) is another episodic pixel horror adventure game, A Room Beyond: I suppose, I've just transphered my attitude towards The Last Door onto it. It looks nice, it's cheap, so I decided to give it a go.
Then again, some episodic games are not marked EA, idiots like me buy complete seasons, and then the developers either procrastinate for years (Kentucky Road Zero) or presumably cancel the projects without bothering to inform us about it (Blues and Bullets). EA is a much more honest choice if you're unsure when you're going to deliver, to my mind.

You are into episodic games I see. I rather not play them unless they are finished, waiting around sucks to me.
I can understand a EA title going down, but yeah I think not having it and cancelling the other episodes is much worse for some reason, I guess I think if the game doesnt have EA tag, it means the developers are sure about their funding and capability to make the game.

Actually I hate this format and refrain from playing such games until they are complete as well, but being a fan of the adventure genre I don't want to miss potentially good games just because they are episodic.

In the past few years I created alot of interest on Retro Army Studio games, I mean the games are way too cheap and they
end up being very playable. I had good experience with two previous other games from that studio and I gave a try and
bought Verdict Guilty when it was on early acess stage, the game was like 2 bucks, so yeah why not right?
I gave alot of suggestions, some of then were implemented on the game, like a endless mode.
I remember playing the game against my younger brother, we literally tried all the characters in less then 5 minutes, yeah lel
after that I went to forum and suggested to increase the "hp" on 1v1, and it was implemented to the game too.
I suggested to implement more achievements to the game, dlc's with more characters (this one was suggested by other players too).
The game has 4 cops and 4 bad guys to play with; on arcade, story mode, 1v1 mode (not online :/) , and the endless mode. There's
13 achievements to chase, which in my opinion could easily be 20+ achievements. Seriosly they would extend the gameplay time
it's a fighting game after all. They could work with one achievement for every character for each game mode except 1v1,
that would' been 24 achievements just from the game modes, then you put more achievements related to the specials.
or lots of random situations, like win a fight with 5% hp, perfect fight, etc etc.
I kinda insisted on that because the achievements on the previous titles, they were well worked.
my experience with the previous titles while I was playing Verdict Guilty made me wonder why that studio still making short games
and unfortunately VG is another tittle that goes into that same direction, and that's end up being frustrating
But then again, it was just 2 bucks ...

I dont like short games but I also dont like games that have "padded" grind just to pretend its longer. Cool that the developers listened to you.
Maybe they are afraid of investing more resources and not being profitable, so they decided on that approach.

that's the thing, I jumped into that "scene", when I saw one of their previous titles on sale, it was like 0.49$ (regular price is 4,99$)
and for the price tag I wasnt expecting that much, to be honest I wasnt expecting nothing at all. There was some quality on it and
the achievements wasnt exacly grind stuff, it kinda gave a "fancy" look to this game xD.
But yeah in the end I agree with you, it's not like they're popular out there and its not like they have lots of $$$$ to
invest on it since usually theres just 3 or 4 names on credits scenes.

hmm think it is a good idea to get feed back from the community, haven't heard many of them actually ark their communities questions though. It can mislead people when purchasing but I guess people shouldn't really be buying it till it's finished so they know what their getting catch twenty two isn't it

Reign Of Kings
-Didn't really finish game, left engine still pretty broken
Ark: SE
-Releasing DLC before finishing the game
+Regularly adding objects
-Waste way to $$$ on Pax both etc
-illegal work on game development at start of project

+Turned out pretty good but as most EA games didn't really get much of a chance to dive in deep into it & give some input back to the devs

+Shaping up to be a good game still a lot work to do but fingers crossed

+Pretty cool game, mostly just needs a lot more levels added currently & a few other things but loving this one so far
Arma 3
-Just played a mod after EA but for a game that encourages modding still doesn't seem that easily modable also engine ain't the best as that's DayZs big struggle that is holding it back

While usually they dont explicitly ask on the forum, I think most of them are open to suggestions from users, and it can shape how the game is made. Ark making DLC while the game isnt finished rubbed me in a wrong way, but it seems it will become the norm eventually.

A game that went from 2D to 3D to noD.
Was in Early Access on Steam for a while and then just died (supposedly developer gave refunds to anyone who asked).
There was an apparent fall-out between developers and the project needed to be restarted from scratch, that was the story over a year and a half ago... Nothing but some progress videos posted about 6 months ago of a much more primitive looking version on youtube, then just 2 weeks ago another video was posted... Progress on this is sloooooooooooow....

Dungeon Defenders 2. was great until they started to kinda promote high end farming weekends, and then wipe high end progression few days or weeks after, and before switching paid Early Access to free to play Release. I had fun till I felt cheated, though.
How to Survive 2. I bought it not long before full release. I had fun progressing. But stopped playing / learning it knowing and waiting for gold release when they announced they will need to wipe everything for new save/backup/hosting system. On release we apparently got some nice bonus/extra. Seeing that at release, some bugs like giving hints for controllers instead of keyboard, and really poor optimization (due to their engine ?), and having to play again for very repetitive gameplay, I lost all interest.
Faeria. Very good experience, I had fun. They added challenge and solo content, while fixing some bugs.
I don't remember other Early Access I played.
I am generally rather someone avoiding unstable or untested products, unless I want to beta test it myself or get last best features.

Wiping characters sucks, have they warned from beginning they would do it? Sometimes its unavoidable due to how much they change the inner workings so cant be predicted though.
DD1 is awesome but I decided not to try the second one until its released, even if its free, my friends keep bothering me to try it though, I may relent. I played HTS1 but didnt enjoy it much, funny how they decided to change perspective and charge for it.

7 Days To Die: Good idea but bored me after a while and started to run like a Ford Edsel (didn't help that my Antivirus Software detected it was spyware at one point).
DayZ: Loved it but stopped playing it due to lack of time and getting distracted by other games. Also, It seemed like it rarely updated and, when it did, I noticed no differences.
Hawken: Only played it once and never looked back on it.
Killing Floor 2: FRIGGIN' HATED IT! Felt less like Killing Floor and more like a Red Orchestra mod.

For no reason at all I thought of this topic, searched the forums but didnt find a similar thread. What are the games that are\were Early Access that you got and what were your experience with them? That include games that SHOULD had been Early Acess, even major titles. Overall, you like the idea of Early Access to see how the game is being shaped and maybe contribute to it, or you think its a bad idea and would prefer that games be released when finished? I dont have much experience, but here is mine in no particular order:
Gnomoria: Great game. I played Dwarf Fortress in the past (but never managed to do well, didnt understood certain things. My best experience was my wrestler squad killing off a giant) and decided to give Gnomoria a go, and didnt regret it. Its much simpler but much more accessible too. Had great amount of fun with it. Some people got angry because the developer had some additional plans for it but scrapped them, but not me, I am happy with what I got and recommend the game for anyone who wants to dwelve in this genre but think DF is too complicated.
Warframe: This game is fun specially with friends, and have a mindless grind that distracted me (usually I dont like grind, but some games manage to make it enjoyable). The amount of bugs it got were too high at first, but it was a experience seeing them fixed (I reported some) and seeing the game grow. Its probably too different now from what I played.
Smash+Grab: Great game with fun combat (it had its problems, like not being able to counter people when I clearly pressed the button at the right time). Its a pity that the developers (who didnt get a publisher) had to close down, specially since they didnt add IP support and locked bot matches to a login feature, so its not possible to play offline when the servers go down.
Trove: Interesting game, had fun for a while with friends but honestly its too barren. The grind to get new items didnt appease me.
Dont Starve: Now this one I dont remember If I played EA, but I think I did. Really interesting title, had some good moments with it. They added more content now but I havent played that yet.
Worlds of Magic: I really, really, but REALLY wanted to play that because I love Master of Magic and caved in and bought full price to support the developers (I first tried a... ahem... alternative copy). Way too buggy. The developers started focusing on a mobile game to get funds to continue patching (a bad sign) then they made a new game and gave it away for free for users who got WOM, havent tried that one yet.
ORION: Prelude: This game kept changing names on development. Overall a fun experience, but nothing too major. Quite cheap too.
Godus: Now this one had really bad comments all over but I decided to spend my GMG credits on it because I love god games and decided to try it. Quite disappointed by it, really boring.
Valhalla Hills: Was really excited for this one, paid full price on it. And ended up with little things to do, and a balance problem that bothered me: I couldnt get enough food for my citizens no matter what. Theres been some updates since and even expansions, I will try them out eventually, but its one of the few that I didnt like.
Terraria: It was not EARLY ACCESS by name but it was in practice. The developers rushed to release it due to the realy good reception it got. At first I hated the game and even uninstalled it quickly, but decided to give a try dont know why and loved it. The amount of content it got eventually was amazing. My only complaint is that they focused on the hardcore people and made most of it too hard. I couldnt defeat the cultist boss or access the lunar\alien one. Also they nerfed the useful ball of light to oblivion and it became a glorified paper weight, and made the alternative item wayyyy too hard to get and by the time you already got it you are finished with the game. ;_:
Craft The World: I was really attracted to it and did something I usually dont: Impulse buy. Boy am I glad I did. I loved the game and it had a lot of things to do. The developers added more stuff but to be honest I prefer the way it was, some things added are kinda useless\complicated. Multiplayer support wasnt interesting to me.
Edge of Space: Nothing to do. Decided to wait for full release, then I didnt knew what to do. Also the graphics put me off for some reason.
A Valley Without Wind: Now this game (And others from the same developer apparently) changed a lot in development, it was amazing how much stuff changed, hopefully most for the better. It was quite a grind initially but I didnt mind. Havent tried the finished game yet, I lost my save because the developers put it on the game folder instead of my documents and I didnt backed that up, and I dont want to restart from scratch.
Overall I had a good experience with Early Access. I didnt contributed to the game development besides reporting bugs, but had fun seeing some games change over time. So, whats YOUR take on it?
