Do you put on music while reading a book? (most of the time)
I like ambient electronic music a lot, but when reading I usually choose not to have music, or if I do listen to something it's mostly instrumental classical music. I listened to a lot of Rachmaninov while reading Tolstoy, for example, which also felt thematically fitting. Then there are authors that mention music a lot in their work, like Haruki Murakami, and it felt appropriate to just turn on whatever Jazz standard or classical work he was mentioning at that moment to get myself immersed. It doesn't always work well, though, because the music would sometimes still be playing while the narrative had moved on. I also find music distracting when reading in public (like on the subway or something), so I just concentrate more on the text and tune out the ambient noise (noise canceling earbuds help a lot).

Damn that's a pretty impressive live concert you've got there, filled with emotion! Aah that's something I've never thought of doing, sounds like I should though ^^ At least you get an intense chapter out of it.

Something I'm trying to do as well of late ^^
And thank you!

I like some background noise while I need focused reading, as the sounds act like climbers for me, preventing my ideas wander too far. But for a good book that I really enjoy, it doesn't matter, it's great in silence and I can tune out distractions quite well.
I found this in a review as a recommendation for a game without sounds https://tabletopaudio.com/ thematized ambient sounds / music for tabletop games - from deep-dea dive to noir investigation to a simple café - really pleasant background music for reading, studying, or while trying some creative work :)

After checking out a few of them I can already tell this will be a new favourite site. Always looking for more ambient noises, thanks a bunch for sharing.

It's either music or books, can't concentrate on both

I use ambient sounds (like sound of rain or train or other) to increase my concentrate and the frequency of thinking (it's true 😄) while reading study books/papers/articles/etc. And I use audio books which have music background when I want read something non-scientific or easy-reading literature. So, "yes" I do it with music.
