Its been months since i joined steam, having so much fun playing games with friends from all over the world.
Now, its time to move on where i need to go back to college where playing time will be reduced tremendously.

Have ever you guys thought you would be leaving steam for a very long time, after getting work, married or even its does not seems important for you anymore?
Or when you guys think its time to stop playing games and focus more time with your family?
Doing real things and getting real memories?

Have ever it crossed on your mind that you'll stop using steam in the future?

Yes..sadly
NO !! I will take it to my grave !!
Yes and No. It comes and goes.

I will never surrender!

Also a girl can take my hobby as it goes or she can stuff it, come on being married doesn't mean you have to be attached to eachother 24/7.

If you marry or having a girlfriend, doesnt mean you are not allowed to follow your hobbys.
As a couple you dont have to share every hobby. I like to have my own without my GF or Wife.
The most important thing is to share THOSE things you love to do together. Everyone needs free space, for his own things to do.

when you marry, you are allowed to follow your hobbies.
still, when you have children (somewhat related to being married), priorities change a lot and even if you are supposedly allowed to follow your hobbies, the time slot can be so small that it becomes a rounding error.
it just happens.

There is always time for a gaming session. When you got Family and wife and so on you dont have much time. That's true. But i would never give up my Gaming sessions. Doesnt matter :-)
its my hobby and i love it.

I see no problem with both, wife and husband playing games. Also, I see nothing wrong if one of them doesn't (can be that it's the wife that's a gamer :D). They just need to respect each other's hobbies. The only ones that might not respect and force them to, at least, reduce play time... are children. But they'd love them anyway ;)

How does it feel of losing all you hard-earned games ? Tell us ~

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Losing? If I'll have a son or daughter, who will love to play videogames I'll give him or her my Steam Library. And he or she will just say that those are boring piece of shits, because now the AR v2 is cool, which transports you directly to the game. And I will be left there with my library with fond memories...

Point taken. It will be wonderful if our steam library transcend to our children and to their children and so forth.

I think if life gets that busy, it will dictate your action, you wont have to make a decision :P
However, the times I play the most games is usually when I've been under the most pressure/stress, as it can be very healthy to relax and get some enjoyment in when you can :) lets me take a step back and get some stress-free time in so the brain doesn't overheat. As for family - if you love something, share it with your family!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its true but..
if your family doesn't like you playing games while with them? How do you tend to persuade them to like something that they hate?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, there's a compromise obviously. I'm not saying force games onto your family or neglect them to play games :p
But if you enjoy something, they should be understanding enough to not take that enjoyment away from you.

If it is something that enriches your life in some way, or helps you relax, or de-stress, or whatever, just demonstrate to them why that is, and if they don't understand, they may be fairly close-minded.

why should we have to decide between family and hobby? they don't contradict each other.

Doing real things and getting real memories?

are memories of real activities always better than memories of virtual activities? i was partying a lot in the last few weeks. good memories. i also recently remembered playing To The Moon and how emotional it was. also good memories. i don't think one is necessarily worth more than the other. i think a memory is just as good as the activity was enjoyable. and that goes for real and virtual activities. :)

By means, memories with total strangers and memories with the ones closest to you.
Is it not memories with the one's closest to you yields much long-lasting memories?
Such as the memories of raising your child, or hangout with your friends to a bar.
Is it not "true" memories we should seek?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well, i hang out in bars with my friends all the time. and it's always the same. it's great, and i enjoy it very much. but well, we drink and have fun, and next time we'll do the same. reading a very good book can also be a valuable memory. did you ever read a book that impressed you so much, or excited you so much, that you will probably never forget it? if your answer is yes, you can say the same thing about games. i played To The Moon some years ago, and the story was so impressive, so emotional, that i can't forget it. just the same as certain books i've read. books, games, movies - stories - can be so good that they influence your life in a way. i would say these are also very valuable memories. :)

But lets be realistic for a sec, our accounts won't go away any time soon so we all WILL come back sooner or later.

Life is about priorities. There's no reason to leave Steam as long as you can keep a balance with everything else in your life.

I'm 35, married, work full time and run my own business part time but I still make time for gaming. It relaxes me and hell I just love it. So there's no need to ever stop playing games.

Don't understand why it has to be one or the other tbh. I've taken breaks multiple times for various reasons but never understood why you have to abandon something that you enjoy because of real life. All work and no play makes you a dull person; learn to balance the two and enjoy life :D.

Its a great thing to do but what if by the time your children enough, your games become obsolete?
With the upcoming dx12.
Pretty much newer games will drown old games.

Games don't become obsolete and the great thing about PC is it is very backwards compatible. Not too long (a month or 2) ago I was playing some early-3D era games meant for windows 95/98 on my pc without even needing an emulator.

Have ever you guys thought you would be leaving steam for a very long time, after getting work, married or even its does not seems important for you anymore?

I'm working, I've got a career, I've gone through university and I'm an engineer, and I have an active social life on top of all that, yet I've not stopped gaming.
The times I game the most are when I very little to do, and when I'm swamped with things to do. The former is self explanatory, the later is due to the fact that no matter what I do, I need something to unwind & relax, and games is what I use for that.

Or when you guys think its time to stop playing games and focus more time with your family?

it's not an either/or thing. As stated above, I always need to do something to help me relax, and games help me do that.

Doing real things and getting real memories?

Again, not an either/or situation.

You will play less games, you will have little time to expend, but you will not quit playing. It's like any other hobby.

Some gaming time with your kids, some with your friends, and life go on.

I'm 37 now and I play since childhood. I have a college degree, I'm a Biolgy teacher also, and discuss games and technology with my students.
