So I'm getting to the point where it's considered silly not to have a phone (I'll be driving on my own soon, etc.). So the question of all questions has come to my doorstep - to buy Apple, or not to buy Apple? Tried asking people, but it seems that almost everyone I talk to is either a hardcore hater or blinded supporter. I came here looking for logical advice... perhaps a gaming forum was the wrong place, but it's worth a shot. Thanks guys!

Well I can say that iPhones are more optimized for the apps which makes up for the hardware. However, I think that after the 5S the 6 is too thin and I've dropped my 6 a lot of times because it kept slipping out. I am also using the Samsung S4 and occasionally it crashes and the power consumption is worse too, but I like android's apps better.

Get the Cyanogen Mod, it's really user friendly and easy for beginners to get into.

I was really tempted to get that during the Black Friday sales. It was $0.01, and came with a $50 gift card, but I just don't like the idea of 2-year contracts.

If you want to use the phone and i mean really use it so buy Android (Samsung, HTC, Sony). If you wanna be "wanna be cool" and nothing else buy iPhone. And if you want just a phone to call someone, send sms and surf on inet so buy Nokia with WinPhone.

n a nutshell, i've had both so I know.
Apple- have to upgrade every 1-2 years
easy
quite expensive for cheap hardware
Samsung-
has better price to hardware ratio (cheaper for better hardware)
somewhat easy, but can easily be made complicated by a power-user
the OS has much more freedom that iOS
Nutshell: Apple is your willing to spend some extra money and are lazy. Samsung if you are willing to have a slight-more complication was Apple, and cheaper for hardware.

After years using iPhone (3G and 4S) and never really liking the Samsung ones... Go with a Xiaomi MI4: better than a iPhone 6 and half the prize.

I prefer Android and have used Samsung devices since I switched to Android from Palm. The main reasons I did so are (1) since I don't normally use any Apple products, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the sort of built-in compatibility of Apple's phones with other Apple devices, software, etc., and (2) Apple's ecosystem was significantly more closed than Android's -- they monitored and controlled what apps were available to users much more than Google did for Android, and it seemed like it would be a lot harder to switch out to some other device or OS later. Apple's got a sort of "walled garden" ecosystem -- if you're in it and stay in it, everything works great together. If not, it's not quite as neat and easy. Additionally, Apple had far fewer smartphone devices to choose from. I generally liked the wider variety of options Android provided and the generally more open nature of the OS and ecosystem; it was typically easier to modify and customize things on Android when I was originally deciding. But AFAIK, both Apple and Samsung, as well as other smartphone manufacturers, offer good products that will do basically whatever you want and probably about equally well. My suggest would be to use Android unless you're already invested in the Apple ecosystem, in which case an Apple phone that's basically designed to work with your other Apple stuff may be a better choice. I hope this is of some use.

Buy a regular phone. I'm fairly sure Apple don't even make those.

Apple makes quality devices that are consistently overpriced. If you're ok with the price and all of the proprietary issues that come with anything Apple, then go for it.

I prefer better value and options, so I always go with non-Apple. Sansa Mp3 player, build my own PC, and Android phone.

Can't give you too logical of advice because I'm one of those hardcore haters. Haven't liked Apple since I had to use a mac in elementary school and the lack of right click pissed me off. lol But seriously the actual logic driven argument would be that Apple is usually more expensive for lesser technology. The hardware is ok I guess but it's cheaper and better to get an android.

The only thing I like about iPhones are the earbuds that come with them. Everything else isn't really for me.

I'd probably be using a Samsung if I didn't hate Google so much.
