So I'm getting to the point where it's considered silly not to have a phone (I'll be driving on my own soon, etc.). So the question of all questions has come to my doorstep - to buy Apple, or not to buy Apple? Tried asking people, but it seems that almost everyone I talk to is either a hardcore hater or blinded supporter. I came here looking for logical advice... perhaps a gaming forum was the wrong place, but it's worth a shot. Thanks guys!

If you already own several Apple products, get the iPhone. It'll be more expensive overall and in the long run, but Apple products are designed in such a way that they interface beautifully with each other and lock you in. They're also subjectively prettier, and aftermarket accessories are really easy to find since all iPhones are designed exactly the same.

If you're on a budget, like developing apps, only need a few features or need ALL the features, or plan to root your phone and mess around with it (yes, this voids the warranty), get an Android. These also have the benefit of being easier to work with if you don't have an Apple product.

Personally I'd get an Android because 1. I am poor and 2. I don't actually like like overly simple locked down software, but that's just me.

Why not a Nokia? I know Win8 isn't killer, but the phones are. That's quality material for a very good price and I don't miss bubble shooter games in exchange for 5 days of battery life.

I've been using both over the years and for phones I like Android alot better for the flexibility and price, performs just as well. I've mostly used Samsung to run Android, but there's plenty of good options. Apple you pay for the brand just to be able to do less with it. But for the tablets I really like Ipad alot more than the others in the long run.

spare yourself trouble and dont get a samsung i only have trouble with mine,i currently have a s4 had a s3 befor and both only gave/giving me problems its like some samsung sickness first few month all fine and later it starts restarting itself for no good reason at all while just typing a message or freezing, lags, battery dying super fast(i only use my phone for calls, texting, taking pics and sometimes music not playing games on it anymore).

also alot of people i know that have a samsung phone having the same problems.

i dont dislike apple but its way too annoying using itunes all the time just to get music on your phone and such.

Why dont you check out other brands like htc, sony, nexus?

This decision is highly depends on your own needs and ways of work... Apple or not Apple - is not what you have to decide. Instead, you should think, what you want from your phone, and in what way you want to use it. And then, when you know exactly what you want, you look at different phonas and say "Oh, this %phonename% can do %feature%, and that - can't, I need %feature% in my phone, so I should choose %phonename%"

I'd go for an HTC or Sony Xperia rather than the overpriced iPhone or stupid Samsung(lmao they literally make the worst android phones)

Anything but Apple. Much more expensive, much less hardware. In the end, it's like paying for the OS, or even... the Apple in its back.

I'm quite happy with my LG G2. LG is also cheaper and faster than its Samsung counterpart (G3 versus S5).

I just got another Moto G. I'll be giving the old one to my father.
Best bang for the buck in the lower-middle end, which is what I'd recommend for your first phone. You don't need an expensive flagship.

Don't buy a damn Iphone plz, just get any other brand and then you can use all the money you save for presents to your family. It's a win-win situation :)

Do you have Mac and enough money? Go for Apple!

Do you have enough money for iPhone but you like to pirate Apps and Music? Go for Samsung.

Do you use windows, U're not pirate and like privacy? Go for Nokia. (as Microsoft claims Windows 10 upgrades for all Lumia Windows Phones)

You don't care where you publish your personal info, like to watch sh*tload of advertisements and you accept that 3MB Flashlight app will read your SMS and contacts, check your position, internet connection, view your gallery and it will bring 20 announcements to launch it per day? Enjoy your new Android phone!

Buy an iPhone if you have money for it. Don't listen to this fanboys, I have android phone and even though i love it because of limitless possibilites for customization, I find the lack of apps for certain stuff(music production, audio and video editing) pretty problematic at times. Also, if you are a gamer, iPhones have a bigger and better selection of games to play.

You can use custom roms on phones that support android. There is no such thing as an android phone, there are however phones that use that particular operating system.

I know what custom ROMs, but I don't see what custom ROMs have to do with iPhone pros that I have mentioned above. I won't even comment that other statement...

O rlly? Then let's compare Nexus 5 and IPhone 4. They cost around the same price, and without even thinking, the Nexus 5 is a lot better phone for pretty much everything.

Sorry, but You just seem like a Apple's fanboy who is trying to "protect" their products. I'm trying to help the user, to choose the phone that should last him/her several years. And You say that IPhone is buttery smooth. Maybe, but not for a long time. The apps become "heavier" and the phone simply can't run it.

Sorry, but You just seem like a Apple's hater who is trying to hate their products.

Several years? Huh, 3 years earlier, average Android specs were 1core 1000MHz + 512 MB of memory, I have similar phone like this still in my drawer, it is useful only for browsing internet cause it can't run any of theese apps because they already became 5-20x heavier. You see that, earlier this year they started to release 8core, now 64bit. Android went from Froyo and Gingerbread (2.2/2.3) to Jelly Bean and KitKat. Ram 512MB to 2GB.

Whereas 3 years old Blackberry, Nokia, iPhone are old but gold. WP8.1 is still smooth on 512MB ram.
But OK, I know, not all android phones are bad.. It's just like buying a console, you have to reconcile the fact that somewhere else is the PC master race.

Hehe, I don't hate their products, I hate their pricing policy. When looking on Amazon, I saw that IPhone 4 costs 235£/196£ in UK (IPhone 4 costs 300€ in Estonia), when Nexus 5 costs 295£ in UK (Nexus 5 costs 300€ in Estonia) and OnePlus One costs 259£ in UK. I have a Nokia 5230 myself and I love it, but soon it just isn't enough. Same goes for the Iphone 4. It may be good now, but not for a long time.

P.S. Where is Android "Lollipop"? ;)

Android phones are cheaper, well not that much if you look at flagship devices(samsung, sony, htc), but I don't think that OP cares about the price here. Based on what he wrote, I just think that iPhone would be a better choice for him, even though I prefer Android myself.

If the OP wants the IPhone to have his ITunes stuff, then he/she should get an Android phone and this app.

I would prefer SonyEricsson but SonyEricsson has passed away and now we've got Sony's which phones are like waterproof Samsung with different UI but same shitty experience I had: I can't get rid of the feeling that UI is not quite responsive, at least not as responsive as pure android is, so I would go for Nexus, BUT...
the last Nexus phone is fkin 6" big and the previous (also quite huge) is discontinued... having that said, thanks to this ridiculous trend of making huge phones I had no other option but to get myself an iPhone 5s which still feels in the hand like a mobile phone, not some tablet crap which you can't even shove into a pocket nor touch the upper part of screen without rearranging the grip of the device.
To sum up: Apple is the only manufacturer of mobile phones which are not more than 4" with contemporary hard- and software. Everything else is either horrible (like Galaxy Young) or fine but huge (like any other Galaxy or Sony or HTC, you name it) or huge and horrible at the same time.

You should really take a look into custom roms before getting an iphone because of no pure android....
