Hey all,

I've been working on a project to help those, like me, who have too many games in their library, to know which game to play next. If that sounds like you, give http://www.nextsteamgame.com a go and it will try and recommend games based on a number of different variables, you can also login and get a more personalised recommendation.#

Update: I've patched some of the bugs and hopefully it'll now be a lot quicker :)

Any feedback welcome,

Opdude

Looks very simplistic, I like the design. But I can choose the games to play myself, so at least I don't need that kinda stuff. There are sites like Steam roulette and Random steam game too.

Thanks for the feedback :), I think I'll also look into recommending a random game as well :)

As in "I like the simplistic design."

I don't quite understand what it is about the concept that's hard to grasp.

The word "simplistic" has a negative tone to it.

Not really? A lot of people like simple.

Simple and simplistic are different. Simple is neutral, and often positive, whereas simplistic is negative.

This. I think "simple" is the term used here denotatively.

This, I think the word he was trying to get at was "minimalist"

Simplistic can definitely have a negative connotation to it but that's really subjective. Maybe a better word choice would have been "minimalistic"?

Why are some games highlighted green, blue, purple and gold?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They are wow like styled recommendations, i.e orange is the most recommended and grey is least :)

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah that should actually be explained on the site. Also, FB may not be too happy with you stealing their "like" hands :-p

Noted, I'll try and make that more clear :). The hands are part of an open source framework so it should be fine to use :)

I have now added a badge giving their order numerically to the top 10 recommended games

Comment has been collapsed.

So I should play Back to the Future Ep. 1 and 4, somewhat play 2 and 3 and it's not recommended that I play Ep. 5?
Also the most recommended is inMomentum. Let's give it a go. Maybe you know me better than myself.

Edit: I've tried inMomentum. It's an ok game, but I'm not in the mood for it now. I guess it's a good recommendation because I've been playing a lot of The Walking Dead lately so it clears my mind a bit.

And another thing. I can't seem to find Portal 2. Is it considered completed and therefore not listed? Edit 2: Found Portal 2. Sorry about that.

It now says to play Blackwell Unbound. Nice way to get me to stories again :).

Glad you were able to find some games to play :)! The site doesn't currently take into account sets of games that should be played in order, so sorry about that ^^. If you mark a game as being completed then you'll find it in the completed tab at the top :).

Thanks. I managed to get my head around it.

It's a pretty nice concept. I always have trouble deciding what to play next and I end up just reading about stuff.

That does not matter, it's just as safe anyway, as long as you log in through steam it's nothing to worry about...

Suggestions:

  • Make an option to choose to show games in either rectangles (current design) or a list.
  • If you don't like a game, you dislike it rather than unlike it.
  • Make an option to categorize games.

Make a button to generate recommendations if possible, I tagged and liked and whatnot but did not see any recommendations, I always like having a button that shows me the magic is being done and I'll have to wait now.

If you hit the sync button under Account that should kick off the process of recommending again :), I will look into creating a button for just the recommending however :)

Design looks a bit weird on Windows Phone browser (mobile IE), but I guess the average user is using a desktop browser and won't have these glitches. Like others mentioned, a bit explanation of colors and/or signs would be nice as well. Better to explain more than necessary than too little ;) Can't say much about functionality as I'm currently on my phone and won't test it here.

All it recommended were free to play MMOs... Is there a way to factor out certain games in my recommendations? I think TF2 and Dota are messing up my results.

Permalink

Your welcome to blacklist games, this will take them out of the recommendations entirely

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This makes it so that they don't affect games in the recommendations, or just hides them?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It'll just hide them

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you think you could add a feature for this, because due to my TF2 and Dota playtime every recommended game is a free-to-play mmo.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Slow, but nice concept.

However, it appears that it is recommending only games that I already own. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the mechanics of how it works?

Right now I see no games on my recommendations that aren't in my library.

The site is to help you pick which game to play next that you have in your library but may in future suggest games you should buy :)
