I'd (and I assume many others) would appreciate if Humble just came out with a blogpost saying that they can't keep up with the schedule they promised back then when abolishing weekly bundles (a bundle every Tuesday) for one reason or another and said to just keeping up with Twitter updates instead of leave people hanging for most of a month every Tuesday who don't care about books/comics/software.

I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but the site is really heading towards the dumpster. I've compared older bundle sales with never ones (thanks to http://www.wikiwand.com/en/List_of_Humble_Bundles), and the total of the current 5 live bundles (excl. Monthly) does not even hit the total of the first ever Bundle (I wonder why they don't display the sold number proudly on the top of the page anymore). Maybe it's just a matter of time until they announce closure and refund everyone's pre-paid monthlies.

I am afraid that this may be a valid scenario. It looks like hb it's dying. Even new monthly bundles look poor compared older ones. Time will tell

Monthly bundles are fine. Having a new "quality" bundle every week is what seems to be unsustainable.

but why it has to be unsustainable? they sell, we buy, they profit.

they dont - theyre a registered non-profit. that may well be the issue for IGN having bought it though - and thus its unsustainable.

From what I've read on the topic of such bundles, Steam made it pretty hard to request keys for games, which might be the cause of HB not being able to go live with a bundle each week. However, we do not know if this is the case because Humble (despite claiming to be transparent) is not telling us nothing, other than "whoopsie guys, no bundle this week but we have this saaaaale", or not even that, like now. I presume this isn't an issue for the monthly, because they're planned out weeks, if not months in advance since it's a sub based service, and they can't just go "uwu sowwy guyz, no bundle this month".

However, this begs the question on why this is the issue, if this is indeed the issue with this. After almost 8 years of bundles, you'd think HB would be a trusted "re-seller" and the devs of the game could flex this to Steam to push sales, or something. Even moreso with IGN backing, but alas.

After almost a month of no weekly game bundles and a very mediocre mostly rebundle, I feel like a blog post regarding issues that are happening would be in order, but Humble doesn't think so. Nothing we can do about this, except fume in silence that they're just shilling NMS and LastPass since our woes will definetly be unheard.

From what I read once, requesting keys on Steam is limited to 10k per month or something like that. But it might be only to small devs/publishers. I doubt Square Enix or Bethesda or any other major company have that limitation.

I'd say it's not fair to compare books bundles and medicore-publisher-bundle to The First Bundle, even if I agree HB appears to be moving from weekly model into focusing on grabbing good games for Monthly and then reusing them later in weeklies.

Meanwhile in HB headquarters:

HB Pick staff: hey hbninja, you're sure that the people are expecting nothig...
HBNinja: yes, I saw a lot of post in steamgifts, the people wrote in a discussion named "Upcoming Humble Bundle", that they are expecting nothing...
HB Pick staff: umm, weird, ok, satisfy them, no bundle today!

What is IGN's reputation among game devs and publishers ?
I see people dont like them. If companies dont like them, too, maybe they simply dont feel like giving much bundle options for Humble (well, basically IGN)..

Its not like they trow just some games and call it a bundle - dont they work with devs and publishers creating the bundles ? If the other party backs out thanks to bad rep of IGN, that could hurt the site too....

But I dont know - correct me if Im wrong, just pointing out possibility here.

I'm going to bet "no bundle"... should be the closests possible option to the truth.
We got the monthly in 3 days after all, can't divert from sweet sweet money.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

actually they can give discount coupons to new users in the first tier and wallet Money in the last tier to make monthly more attractive. As you said there is only 3 days left so many people who was thinking about it bought it already and subscribes have already paid last week. They will want to attract new customers so i think a bundle is more likely this week.

They run two bundles(games/software) at once. The current game bundle is ending today, so there will be a new bundle up. How good it is though..idk.

Today it's exactly 9 months since my last HB purchase (except for some Monthlies), and it was only a 1$ Tier : Humble Jumbo Bundle 10 - October 31, 2017 - $1.00.
To fit with this, I wish to get Humble "Freaking Babies" Bundle or Humble "Antechrist will rise !" Bundle.
But of course there will be garbage and/or repeats. To the 1 year without a purchase !

Out of curiosity I checked: I bought a $1 tier in March '18 (Humble Indie Bundle 19) and before that only books and comics since August 2017, when I got the $1 tier of the Humble Spooky Horror Bundle.
Which is astonishing, since I used to buy from Humble several games/bundles each month in 2015/16

The good thing is that I finally clean a little bit my backlog, as it's now so rare that I add a game to my library. Before that lack of good bundles, I used to beat one but got five more games in the meantime.
And my CB is happy too, which is also a good thing.

Two friends of mine have a tiny debt to me, and we are three Lannister, debts won't be forgotten and must be repaid.
One owes me 1.70€ (roughly two Tier 1$), the other one an undefined debt between 5 and 10€ ("bah, you'll get me the next Tier 2 or a game on Steam on sale").
I think that I won't use my CB for the Humble Weeklies for about 2 more years, at that rate.

Oh, you raised my curiosity, so I've checked my Humble purchases: last one I bought was "Classics Return" BTA in February 2018, if not for that one I would have beat your 9 months because the one before that was Jumbo 9, the $1 Tier. And I haven't bought any Monthlies since that either and probably won't buy any unless there's a very good reason, like an early unlock that's worth the bundle price alone - reading stories like this one really makes me think twice about buying a blind bundle such as Monthly, when I might not even be able give away the stuff I don't want.

Wow! My experience is similar. My last purchase is from 12 November 2017, the Humble Strategy Simulator Bundle. I never would have expected it to be that long ago. Why do I keep looking forward again to Tuesdays???

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because we are junkies.
We know it will hurt our feelings. We know it's not good for our heart, liver and brain. We know there is a risk of depression or dementia. Yet we are still here, every single Tuesday, hoping for the end of this everlasting living nightmare.
But there is no hope, HB-IGN crushed us and all our dreams. They are the strange monsters in the dark, they are the prime evil from outer space, they are the jailers of our imprisoned and tormented mind. We vividly know that, but we can't fight anymore. They have won eons before the battle even started...
...
... But today there will be something good ! I know it ! I smell the scent of The Witcher 3 and Yakuza 0 in the tier 1 or 2 ! Yey !

This!.... Every tuesday I ask myself why I did look forward to the humble bundle time... because all we got is dissappointment...

But my brain can think it but my heart is looking forward to a good bundle. But it will not be today is my guess.

My last purchase above the $1 tier was the Down Under bundle, October 17, 2017.

I looked recently, and over the past year, I've purchased more bundles (excluding the Monthly) from Fanatical than from Humble. It has been a rough stretch.

I'm going to guess that Humble take things to a new low:

A bundle of redeemables for MMORPGs and the like. "Premium" content for free-to-play games.

If we anticipate that, then surely ANYTHING we get will seem like a step up? Surely?
