Hey everyone. Up for another crazy question?

I wouldn't be surprised if this question was already asked before (sorry if that's the case) because I usually ask myself this whenever I play a really good game. This time, it's Fire Emblem: Awakening that made this thought pop in my head again.

So yeah. If you can only play 5 games forever, what will those be?

Here are the side parameters to benefit the question:

  • This question only concerns video games. It doesn't include tabletop games (board games), physical games (like paintball), and etc. (Kinda obvious, but some might get confused).
  • Servers will forever be up for online-reliant games, however, the player base will still change according to its popularity.
  • Every bug will be fixed on chosen game/s.
  • Any game, on any platform is allowed.
  • You can mod your chosen game/s.
  • Feel free to add stuff to benefit your chosen game/s. (e.g. Check my Monster Rancher 4 choice)
  • Expansions are allowed on chosen game/s as long as the expansions require the base game to play.
  • To make things a little easier, announced games until the end of 2015 are allowed.

That's about it. If you think some parameters should be removed/ added, feel free to comment on it.

Here's the list that I came up with off the top of my head, in no particular order of preference.

  • Monster Rancher 4 provided that I get all the discs needed to unlock all monsters
  • Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
  • DOTA2 (I'm screwed if DOTA3 pops up. C'mon Valve, no need to work on those 3s.)
  • Civilization V
  • Portal 2 (maybe, I can't think of a good 5th choice)

There you have it. Thanks for reading and a lot more for answering :D

Good on you for choosing Civ 5 and Skyrim, I think the same too about them. May be another game would be Garry's Mod

Hm, let's see.

Gotta include some of my favorites, so let's go with

  • Jagged Alliance 2
  • Wizardry 8
  • Crusader Kings 2

All of those are brilliant games with great replay value and a bunch of cool mods to mess with. Next, we'll look for something multiplayer. Lately I've been playing Neverwinter a lot, but I'd need something that's sure to last a very long time, so:

  • World of Warcraft

It's just the most obvious answer, and even if Blizzard makes a new MMO I'm pretty sure people would still play it as long as there's server support, which is guaranteed by the terms of the question. The final choice is a bit tougher. I'd want something where no matter how good I'd get at it there'd still be an element of challenge to it. A true, quintessential PvP game. In other words:

  • Quake 3 Arena

The only real problem here would be finding enough people to play against, even years from now.

-Terraria | Didn't even have to think about it.
-The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth | Will be released in 2014, a must-have.
-Team Fortress 2 | Provided it has a community of at least 30 people at any given time.
-Grand Theft Auto V | We'll hopefully even see a PC release before 2015 ends.
-Payday 2 | Provided at least 3 of my friends are presistent in the community.

  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Guild Wars 2
  • Star Trek Online (terrible game by a terrible company I know but it gives me my sci-fi-customize-things-however-I-want-and-hey-it's-Star-Trek-to-boot fix, and I apparently value this fix more than I value standards)
  • Diablo 2 (I'd love to say Torchlight II instead but I'll never forgive them for what Guts did to multiplayer :'( )
  • Homeworld 1 ("Kharak is burning." sniffle)

  1. Fallout: New Vegas
  2. Civilization V
  3. Garry's Mod
  4. Arma 2
  5. Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead

You just had to make the expansions require the base game to play. :/ looks at #4 and #5 in my list.
I only chose games which have a great modding community and aren't online-only, so it's easy to keep playing them for ages.

Resident Evil 4,
Bioshock,
Persona 3 FES,
Red Dead Redemption,
Mortal Kombat (2011)

Just to be clear, i wouldn't consider these the best games of all times, but the most replayable ones i can think of for today's standards

The best games for me are the PS2 games, i played it a lot and i cant found great games like that on PC yet. There is:

  • Time Splitters Future Perfect ; Incridible Multiplayer, i never finished the main campain but i spend hours playing the split scren modes with my friends

  • Crash Tag Team Racing ; never finished the main campaing but the multilplayer (split screen) i have been bet in all dificulties with my brother

  • Fifa Street 2 ; best football game forEVER

  • Need for Speed Most Wanted ; epic pursuits!

  • Borderlands 2 ; i dont played it but i saw my brother playing and it seems a very good game to play with friends

Primary List:

  1. Tales of Vesperia - doesn't matter how many times I play through this game, I still love it.
  2. Dissidia 012 Duodecim - I love this game so much, fantastic battle system.
  3. Civilization V (w/Brave New World) - ONE MORE TURN!
  4. Sonic Generations - Something high speed, and Generations is the best Sonic game.
  5. Borderlands - Sometimes I just need to play something without needing to think, with explosions.

Runner-ups:

  • Bravely Default - I haven't beaten it yet and don't know whether repeat playthroughs would stay fun. Would replace Dissidia or Borderlands (if Auto-Battle ends up being able to fulfill my "play when feeling dumb" requirement).
  • Borderlands 2 - I haven't played it so I don't know if it satisfies my "play when feeling dumb" requirement. Would replace Borderlands.
  • 'A Fire Emblem Game' (likely Awakening) - SRGP is my favorite genre, so I definitely need a game from the best SRPG series. BUT, Civ V fulfills my requirement for strategy game (though not SRPG) and Fire Emblem doesn't fulfill any specific gaming desire otherwise. Might replace Dissidia or Sonic Generations, but would definitely be my 6th game if allowed.
  • 'A Modern Bethesda Game' (likely Skyrim, though Fallout New Vegas could replace it if I like it better) - Lots of freedom and good for modding. Would be significantly less appealing with bugs fixed. (I'll take the Unofficial patch instead, since that leaves the fun bugs) Would replace Sonic Generations, would be 7th after Fire Emblem.

Games with tons of replay value:
Civilization 5 (with addons)
Skyrim (with mods)
Team Fortress 2 (with hats ^^)

Games I just need in my Life:
Final Fantasy 8
One additional Final Fantasy from 6, 7, 9 and 10.. can´t really choose and if I had to, I´d just grab one of them at random.

Cool question! Hmm, Dungeons of Dredmor and Civ V I'd take as they are now, Shadowrun Returns, Monaco, and Portal 2 I'd choose if there were always new maps/campaigns added through the workshop (or official updates and DLCs).

edit: oh man, I just saw some people mention HoMM3, I don't know how I forgot about that game! I'd swap that in for Shadowrun, probably.
