Just bought a SNES mini classic. Just wondering what your impressions and experiences from this console (and NES mini too BTW). Does anyone know if you can play games that aren't built in, like on cassette?

I got all of them (Got the Sega Megadrive 2 Mini coming next week).

An original cassette? How do you want to put them in?

You can however mod them to play roms (just search on youtube). Although most use the PS mini.

Ok, thnx. I didn't get a look at the console yet since it is shipping, but i guess the hole for cassettes is just cosmetic then? I just thought it would be a neat feature to be able to play old cassettes.

Yeah just cosmetics, the Amiga and C64 comes with a non functioning keyboard (you have to have really small fingers anyway).
But the original cassettes are also bigger then the mini's, because well they are tiny. :)

There are hardware from Hyperkin where you can put in original cassettes and play, the more cassette support (like you can buy 4 or 8) the more it will cost though.

Also the Commodore 64 they also released as a big "breadbox" version, and there are rumours they will also come with a big version of the Amiga.

Just heads up, unless you bought them in used condition, you probably bought bootleg wannabe units, that cannot be modded. The consoles are long sold out already, and the North American snes mini is known to have a bootleg clone that is widely available, but hands off,its not worth the money. If you have the real thing, you should check out Patton Plays youtube channel for hakchi tutorials, if you intend to put your own roms onto the console.

There are a few games i know of which i think is not included, which i like so perhaps. (Well, i bought it most of all for Super Metroid and Mario games but still). If i remember correctly it was a game called Earthbound which i enjoyed on emulator before. I did finish most of Super Metroid on PC too. That said, this is the first Nintendo console i have ever owned in my life, i used to be a dedicated Playstation and PC guy.

Earthbound is definitely known to be a great SNES game yes, and many want a sequel.

You can also play that and a lot of other ones with a subscription on a nintendo switch. You can also get one modded but it's very very hard, most sellers got hit by a lawsuit.

I am lucky (and old enough :p) to still have my original NES. :)

Earthbound got a sequel on GBA, called Mother 3 (Earthbound on SNES is actually 'Mother 2' in Japan). Unfortunately the only way to play it in English is via a fan translation patch last I heard.

Yeah i believe so, then there is also a Mother 1, but not hard to do if you are into the rom thing, but so many backlog.

I sometimes see with other games, on the steam discussion boards immediately people asking why not bring out those Earthbound/Mother games? Since we got some Nintendo games on steam, shouldn't also be beyond the realm of possibility i think
I still also really hope one day, those Professor Layton games. :)

Actually this wasn't the game i was thinking of at all. I just thought the name sounded familiar. Maybe someone can help? A game i played where you evolve a dinosaur into bigger forms or something similar. Took place in prehistoric time.

Sounds a bit like EVO for the snes, though in that game you start out as a fish and evolve into a dinosaur iirc.

Still have my old "not really NES but sort of is" console in the closet at my parent's home with 7-8 cartridges (Duck Tales, Blades of Steel, Rescue Rangers, Robocop, TaleSpin, Jungle Book, Super Mario, Tank 1990...) I wish I could get SNES mini or NES mini, but not really available here. Emulators are ;)

"not really NES but sort of is" ?

Not even ebay? Most probably charge a much larger price though, those were the first ones to come out, so that's why they are rare now, unless you buy second hand. Regular stores here now asking 300 euro! for it.

You can get a ps mini and just put anything on it even non playstation games, i don't know if it goes for every mini system, but i can't see why not. Or a steamdeck that's one big powerful emu machine. ;)

"Famiclones" were popular in parts of the world where Nintendo didn't have much of any presence, like China, Eastern Europe and parts of South America.

The Dendy is one of the better known ones, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendy_(console)

That's a nice hardware with a wonderful case with a potentially good software after hacking optimization tweaks to add more titles gameplay styles and even consoles gameplay options...

Don't give Nintendo any money. That company is awful. Just emulate the games.

While i agree. I feel i wanted to own one Nintendo console in my life, and 120 dollars were for me a decent price. You pay for convenience mostly i guess. BTW i bought second hand so no money for Nintendo.
