Let's say I gave away my Just Cause Collection and a few weeks later a friend bought Just Cause 2 and since I'd like to play with him I'm entering a giveaway for Just Cause Collection or Just Cause 2.

Would that be frowned upon or it doesn't matter?

Or maybe you just regret giving a game away and want to play it again..

Entering a GA of a game you gave away before will:

View Results
be no problem at all
get you blacklisted
make you an a hole
get you banned

If you don't own the game you can enter.

It's not what he is asking

Would that be frowned upon

That is a case by case scenario and is hard to determine ones own perception of any given situation.
I say enter, throw caution into the wind & if anyone has an issue, throw pie in their face for being a bitch.

Yeah, I think most people would be fine with this, but he may still get on some blacklists

As long as you do not have the game in your Steam library. You are free to enter I am to assume.

Dont see anything wrong with that

Definitely should be fine.

I can see why you're asking though, this community confuses me.
People apparently blacklist others for leaving comments that say Thank You on a giveaway, so who knows, someone would probably find a way to be upset about it.

^Yea I got scared by that so I stopped leaving any comments : \

Some people also blacklist you for not saying thanks. Generally, people who blacklist you for saying thanks warn you in the description, and do this for filtering people who do not read it

Odd. I've never seen a listing that said that, I've seen some that ask you to comment on a video they link, but that is about it.

I've seen a few of these, either asking not to comment at all or to comment something different than thank you

true, I have seen that before. But I generally only enter for games I actually want and if it is something I really want Ill leave a specific comment. Cant be on everyones good side I suppose :)

It has definitely left me leaving less comments than before. If something has no comments and I enter I still say my thanks, but it has scared me off a bit unfortunately. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say other than showing my appreciation, lol.

The only circumstances where people blacklist others for saying thanks/ thank you etc is either when they explicitly asked in the description or when it's obvious that automated scripts were used to post Thank you messages.

Wether to say thank you or not is an entirely different discussion and probably depends on culture. I say thanks when I receive something. I'd rather have no comments than thank you comments.

You not thanking the show clerk when you buy a lottery ticket, right?

hmmm I think your right about depending on culture... Because I almost always say "thanks" to shop clerks haha

+1. They're not vending machines.

The clerk is not the one that will give you money if you win. You can thank the creator simply for being generous and giving you an opportunity, even if you don't win.

thats true, but without the clerk you couldn't get the ticket

That's not really the point, I just meant that it's not a really good analogy

It's fine as far as I'm concerned, definitely not against the rules and most people shouldn't have a problem with that.

I've seen this discussion before and there were people saying that they frown upon it, but personally I see it as perfectly acceptable as well...

EDIT: Wait, I think the discussion before was about about entering a GA for a game you have in the inventory with the intention of trading or making a GA... Anyway, my point stands :)

All right most of the people tend to be fine with it.

There are a few that disagree but that's only natural.

for any package:
if you own the games then you are an asshole and probably get blacklisted if spotted.
if you own more than 50% of a package and you enter just for 1 game or the DLC then again you are an asshole and will probably get blacklisted.
if you own <=50% of a package then you are not an asshole but some ppl may have different opinion.

Sure :)
Then again I've found myself in a similar position before: winning a game in a GA and then buying a bundle with that same game, then trading/ making a GA for that game. I think that looks much worse from the outside :x

If you activated the win on your account then there'd be nothing to dispute anyway.

Yeah, always do :)
But it still looks bad I think, and some blacklisters don't go that far :/

This is something I have always wondered myself. A few games I gave away that I should have gotten a copy of for myself on the sales.
